In the 2000s, FF titles in the 50s could be found new/unsold at various stores here in Australia. I picked up at least one copy of Magehunter that way, though others such as Deathmoor and Night Dragon were easier to find. I resold them on ebay at the time, wish now I'd kept a complete set for myself.

@@gamebookcollector yes it was weird, there was a chain of department stores (Target) where every branch in my city had unsold FF titles sitting in the warehouse around 2003. I just called them up and collected them for retail price. Once the staff stuck a bundle together with sellotape to await my collection. Tape right across the covers! At that time I also made a killing with Lone Wolf books.

I loved these books as a kid and originally had up to about book 40 before i grew out of them. I didn't hold onto them either (d'oh!) but a couple of years ago I started collecting them again. I've gotten back up to book 44 plus book 50 and 54 so far. The ones I've bought up til now have been reasonably priced but I didn't realise the latter numbers were so expensive. Looking unlikely I'll complete my collection without a lotto win 😅
To be honest, I'd be happy with reprints of the whole series. I just want to play the book and I'm not really worried if it's a 1995 copy or a 2022 copy 🤣

Agreed. As soon as eBay sellers got a sniff of quick money-making from a resurgence in interest in Fighting Fantasy books and Dungeons and Dragons material, the op shops were cleaned out en masse. I'm sure there are large volume sellers out there sitting on mountains of them. It is very rare to find a single second hand book now, while they used to be everywhere just ten or so years ago. It bothers me that the eBay sellers have a financial stranglehold on this fabulous series. I'm glad I still have about a dozen first edition books from decades ago, my son has thoroughly enjoyed playing them in recent years.

My daughter is nearly ready to read these so I have been doing a playthrough making sure of appropriateness and thought I'd finish my collection on eBay to discover what they are worth!?! Unbelievable. Mine aren't in good condition as I played them too much as a kid. I have 25 of the main series, plus 12 supplemenary books. Saw this video and quickly confirmed... No magehunter :-(

Check out charity shops.. there have been a lot of good copies found by chance. Fingers crossed. Thanks for watching!

@@gamebookcollector haha don't have that one either! Only revenge of Zagor for those after 50. I can see night dragon for £45 but it's a bit much for a second hand book, as I don't think I'll ever complete it. But... I have heard it's one of the best to play.

It was a welcome surprise to find shadow chaser and Dracula gamebooks, also beowulf. I hope johnathan green continues with more, maybe frankenstein, jekyll and Hyde or an original story?

Paul Mason left a comment on another RUclips video (search for "Fighting Fantasy Gamebooks Review Part 6") stating that when Wizard Books was republishing the Fighting Fantasy series, one of the conditions for reprinting his books was that he would have to relinquish the copyright of the text to Steve Jackson and Ian Livingstone, which he considered to be unethical (and I agree with this). He was also aggrieved that Steve and Ian received all the royalties from foreign editions of his FF books.
It doesn't look optimistic that _Slaves of the Abyss_ or _Magehunter_ will be reprinted any time soon, then...
