I’ve recently learned the back to Eden method and the Ruth Stout deep mulch method. They both make perfect sense when you get educated on soil structure and how I view it is basically like an underground city where all the citizens have their job in building it and when you till the soil your destroying that city.

This spring I spread mulch material that I purchased from my local garden centre.I spread it about three to four inches deep on my garden and my wife’s borders. We could not believe the difference it made in the weed population and my garden did very well also. This is the first time in 50 years that I did not till my garden. I am heading this week for more mulch and am gathering leaves from the neighborhood to carry on your method.thank you and love your videos. Bob

Thank you for watching. I am convinced the mulch is the trick. The added benefit is less work all the way around and the reward is measurable.

Great adding paper and food scrapes with grass and leaves, getting that organic material in the garden 👍

Since those areas will sit until spring I like adding the paper and kitchen scraps. In the summer I put those in the compost pile.

I always seem to run out before I am happy. Ruth Stout said when asked how much, "more". The sweet potatoes took all the mulch they were planted in. So I need more.

Exactly what I did on my garden this fall. I used a combination of grass clippings, leaves, shredded hardwood, compost, and covered the whole thing with 3-4 inches. I just made a connection with a local sawmill for sawdust, and I'm going to start adding that in many places around my property -- some on compost piles, also as mulch around trees I've planted, paths, flower beds, etc. Thanks for sharing. I appreciate your organic methods and try to garden and raise plants and trees the same way whenever possible.

We don't till our garden either. Our alfalfa farm provides as much free hay as I can use. We live in a heavy logging area with many sawmills, so we get mill waste for almost nothing. I add food scraps and sawdust to our manure compost bin. This mix feeds the microbiome and produces beautiful soil. I love your channel. Thanks.

I agree with you 100%... If you till every year, you disrupt the beneficial insects and micros in the soil and it takes a while for them to re-establish...I have a bunch of starters from seed and mulch down and warming the soil... Planting tomarro, .. I can only imagine how tasty your harvest was, let you know about mine. Thank you.
