Trail route on Strava:
/ strava
.
The village of Sethan has become quite popular in the recent years among the tourists looking for overnight igloo stays, snowboarding and bouldering activities. Since the village is located at 2700 m which is 700 m more than the town of Manali, the approach to the village is through 39 hairpin turns.
.
I always wanted to go to Sethan but the steep climb, that too through the road was quite a demotivation. When I came to know that there is a trail that goes from the village of Kosla all the way to Sethan via Rani thatch, I planned to speed hike the route with the help of Mr. Maniram Ji, who is originally from Nepal but stays in Manali since a decade now.
.
The trail goes through the forest present behind the villages of Koshla, Mathiana and Chichoga. The route quickly climbs up the ridge and you get to see the beautiful village of Sethan in the first two hours itself.
.
The trail ahead is a long traverse along the Hampta naala all the way to the Allain Duhangan barrage. The whole trail is a mix of meadow, forest and rocky cliffs present all along the trail. A u-turn from the barrage leads to a 4 km walk on the road to reach the village of Sethan (2700 m).
.
The inhabitants of Sethan are the original migrants from Tibet and Spiti Valley. They are all Buddhist people and used to come to Hamta Valley as horse herders, to do trade. They were given land in Hamta Valley by the then Government of India when Himachal Pradesh was still a part of Punjab.
During winter, most of them move to the lower altitude towns in Kullu Valley, leaving Sethan a beautifully deserted town, before moving back in summer again, and resuming their usual farming business.
.
We further explored the villages of Chillet, Prini, Aleo and Chichoga on our way back to create a beautiful circuit trail.
The Sethan circuit is an amazing day hike near Manali that can be done by beginners and moderate level hikers. I can indeed call it a beautiful forest trail near Manali that can be done in April. A beautiful summer trek near Manali. There are never ending treks and trails in Himachal Pradesh that can be constructed as beautiful day hikes.
.
Best time to go for this forest hike would be the month of May-June and October. Monsoons would NOT be a great time due to the high level of overhead shrub growth thus making it difficult to traverse the slopes.

Back in 2015 when I can to manali on Google I'm seeing these places alla in barrage panduropa but didn't had much idea of the trail and no contacts and only two days of time. Now I'm seeing all the trails that I wanted to do through your videos. I'm lucky found your channel.
Keep em coming man. Your hard speaks for yourself!. Each video. Is gold. 🤘🤗

As always Great video Manav bhaiya 👍 and Amazing shots also👌👏
Why people don't think that their next generation will not be able to see this beauty if they will throw garbages like this 🤔
And Be safe 😀
Very true Vivek. 😦
We all need to bring changes in our lifestyle so that future generations could live in coherence with nature.
Big broadheart Maanav for the contacts given.
What happened to the shin bruise - did you continue trekking with the wound ?
Yeah, I hiked with the bruise. I am totally fine now.🙂
You always rock🔥🔥🔥

Waaw... Your hiking video is really cool and beautiful... We all our trek friends enjoyed lot, I had been Manali about four times... Missing mountains...

Thanks Kartik 🙂
Your videos are always so refreshing 🤩 Always love watching them.🙌 Didn't know there were so many hiking trails hidden near manali🙈😅
Yes, there are many day hikes to go for all around. 🙂 The valley is full of beautiful forest trails.
Superb as always.
BTW whats the name (location) of the viewpoint at 11:20 ?
They is no name to that viewpoint. It is just in between the villages of Mathiana and Chichoga.
You r just brilliant Manav bhai!! Hope can go on a trek with u :)
Thanks Manas 🙂
Hi manav great job as you are a celebrity now we should do a kuda hike where we will bring down all the garbage kuda khachra to downtown. Indian tourist places are becoming a hub of kuda kachra it really baffles all of us .
The tourism and hikes should be sustainable with less carbon footprint.
I am not a celebrity bhai 🙂🙏
I want to stay quite relatable and reachable. I wish to be a part of such a kuda hike and will never miss such an opportunity.
Glad that you think likewise. 🙂🙏
Super
Thank you 🙂

@@Creedaz Okay. Thank you.
You're welcome
Guru ji...............
Bhai Bhai 🙏🙏
I always want to such hikes by myself, but feared myself to get lost in the woods. How you plan the trail and make sure you are on the right path?
Just learn offline navigation. You can start learning about offline navigation apps like OsmAnd
Became your fan bro.. Which camera do you use?
Thanks Rohan 🙂🙏
I use Oneplus7t and GoPro Hero 8 Black
@@Creedaz Epic.. it's good to see you pay attention to the essence of hiking more. Sick and tired of artificial LUTs and Brolls...
Your video brings the raw and natural feeling.. Kudos. Keep it up..
I am glad you like the rawness of the videos. I feel the same that we have somewhere de-prioritised the sound of silence over cinematic experience.
I guess I will stick to the silence. 🙂
sir do you live in vashisht or is this a home stay. because i found this idea good to took a homestay in Vashisht to trek nearby lakes and hikes
I stay at a hostel called Treenido
It is quite close to Vashisht
👍👍👍

Hi.... Where u stayed in Vashisht ??
Treenido
@@Creedaz thanx bro
You're welcome
Was there in 1996, how things have changed since
Oh wow. It would have been so much more beautiful in 1996. ❤️
@@Creedaz Travelling around India before internet and before mobile phones was magical and truly adventurous, the only information available was from guide books like Lonely Planet, The Rough Guide, some Indian leaflets and via word of mouth. Sethan village was 5-6 houses all and all and Chikka 1-2 tents, trails were empty, people were friendly, hospitable and genuine, I miss those days dearly.
Change is the only things that is constant. 🙂🙈 But yes, I wish we could still experience this on trails.
Are you still traveling in covid 19
No, I stay in Manali
That's great bro you are lucky to live in mountains
I agree 🙂🙏
@@Creedaz can you please share the details of this hike because I enjoyed watching the scenes.
Please watch the complete video. I have shared all the details (route file, route animation and local contact)
Can anyone please mention that view point area resting point 2:13 where it is
You will find it on the trail. Difficult to share the exact location.
i know it is also your profession so you cant share each and everything on social media for free but there are lots of question in my mind that i wanna ask you about navigation, homestay in vashisht village but anyways still your videos helped me alot and these videos are very informative as well as relaxing
Thank you Sandeep
There is no information that I wish to keep to myself. I am always willing to share information. Feel free to ask whatever comes to your mind.
Sir my only request to you is, please share how to use navigation as well as your marks on treks. You saved all of your hikes on Strava on your Annapurna circuit but please make a video on how to use them. so that we could trek alone along the trek which are easy one.
