Hi, the fanbase name martians originated from Hua Chenyu's first audition at Superboy (a singing contest) in 2013 where he played and sung a selfcomposed lyricless song. He said he can't write lyrics so he will sing this song in a martian language.
The song he sung was pretty unconventional 😮.
2 of the judges couldn't accept it but one of the 3 saw his genius and fought for him. ❤
After this first audition.... some people called him "the boy from Mars".
It was meant as an insult 😔....but he embraced it and made it his trademark. 😁
Since then his fans are called Martians and his epic solo concerts are called Mars concerts .
The first words Hua Hua says to his Martians at every Mars concert is:
    "Welcome Home ".
He has a very special bond with his martians. You will see what I mean if you will check out more of him.
    ❤🌸🌸🥰

The song Conversations with martian children from his 2019 Mars concert is a very good example to see his bond between him and his martians. He wrote this song together with a group of his martians. ❤

I think it was quite hard for him to name this piece. He explained in one of his recent concerts that this song isn't about expressing the multi-personalities one might have. He was expressing the phases one goes through when depression sets in. The first expression was childlike - an adult unwilling to conform or accept certain events in his/her life, sounding a bit petulant when everyone around him/her dismissed his/her feelings. I've seen a family member went through the phases in this song and the first few phases were spot on. Great reaction lads. Thank you for your effort. Love Hua Hua.

He said once, he realised that no one was there to save him, so he had to save himself. So he lay on the floor and screamed to rid himself of his troubles. What a poor lonely little boy, then a very troubled young man. Now he is happier and gives us what no one else can. His poetry reflects it all.

  • @hst8204
    @hst8204 2 месяца назад +45

He wrote this song in 2019 when he was suffering from depression alone. This song he revealed that it was about the 7 stages of depression. The 6th stage is the point of no-return where alot of lives would have perished. Fortunately, he came back down from his roof top. He wrote another song Really want to Love This World to salvage himself and this song has so far rescued alot of people as well.

I would recommend 2 originals of his : "Equal to Heaven" (2017) & "Illusion and Reality" (2023) from Hua Chenyu English Subs , They will have English subtitles. The 1st he wrote for a movie about the Chinese Monkey God Sun Wukong, but its like a depiction of his encounter as well. The 2nd is a new song of what he has learnt about this strange entertainent industry these few years.

Thanks for a great review of 7P. Hope you had a great trip to Budapest.
I just returned to US from my first HCY concert in Hong Kong.
I am over the retiring age and I have been in so many concerts in my life but this one was a totally different/amazing experience.!!! HCY as an artist is in a league of his own. A combination of David Bowie, Prince, Fred Mercury. No one else comes close in recent years. great singer, composer, arranger, show director, etc.. He brings new concept musically plus new concerts ideas. Great stage, pyrotechnics, sound and many big screens so everyone inside and outside the venue could watch him.
I had requested Bullfight reaction but I think you should react to the Grown towards the Sun on May 4th 2024. An unique music concept that started from an idea, follow by writing a song specifically for that occasion and building a huge concert stage from scratch so all his fans could enjoy the experience of watching to sunrise together.
There are many musical concerts/festivals that run through out the night until next morning; all with many singer (ie Loolapaloosa, Rock in Rio, etc...), but none done by a solo singer/artist specifically for that purpose. Genius!!!
Looking forward for new reations of HCY

HuaHua is also the composer of this song. I love his own compositions so much. It never gets boring to listen to his music. He has so much different music styles.
Growing towards the sun from the sunrise concert for example is the total opposite to 7P. 😉 It is so uplifting, powerful, beautiful and also composed by him.
His songs Bullfighting, Madhouse, Jackdaw Boy, God Tree, Arrival, Aliens, Black and White artist, Flower in a small town, Eternal flame, Qi Tian.... and so much more. All totally different from each other . 😊 All are so good.

He truly cares about his fans but also thinks outside the box! HuaHua is certainly like no other artist in the world! That is why I am a Martian and a Dear! Two original artists and geniuses creating masterpieces!!! Also his rendition of Us had me in tears (from the singer show)! HuaHua affects my senses in a powerful yet beautiful way! hey there - I reminded you after the Budapest concert not to forget Hua Chenyu and now I see you kept your promise... 😃 thank you! You will hardly ever be disappointed with him, he is SO versatile and worth a deep dive. You were absolutely correct when you stated that one can never expect what will happen in the next few minutes of a Hua song. A lot of his own/original songs remind me of the idea of a 'concept album' they had in the 70s, but Hua manages to put all that into a single song! Many layers of meaning within the lyrics, melodies, arrangement, voice - all of them with purpose, and ranging from wildness to serenity.
Johnny might like one of the most beautiful melodies I've ever heard ("Giant Deer") as well as Hua's absolutely heartbreaking love songs, while Richard might dive into his Yoko Ono-like fearlessness with "Cancer" (several versions) or into the ethereal beauty of "Folding", written and sung for an abstract, modern dance piece (and sung as an opening song at some of the 2023 Mars concerts).
And let's not even get started on his often magnificent and -again- fearless stage costumes and personas. Ah! 😍
I'll be my pleasure to watch you discover one of the greatest Rock Stars of our time - whether he performs inside 'the box', or far, far out and ahead of it. See you!

    • @vijandrav.6095
      @vijandrav.6095 2 месяца назад +6

Love Giant Deer. It is my top 3 Hua Hua song. 1. Illusion and Reality 2. 7 Personalities 3. Giant Deer.
Cancer is a tough one so. I can only listen to it twice a year . It makes you feel extremly uncomfortable and yes it is meant to be that way.
Won't recommend to do it as a single reaction. But maybe in a livestream together with other Hua Chenyu songs. It might be interesting for you to analyse how he is doing the sounds in Cancer. To be honest I am not sure if it is healthy for his voice to do this song. He seldom performs it.
He also has a lot of songs (more commercial friendly) for Johnny.
Happy and uplifting songs. Not all of his music is this "extreme" like Fake Monk or 7P or Cancer (which I would say is his most extreme one).
He has a very, very wide range/variety of different music styles.

I stopped listening to music for years... because all the mainstream music... it all sounds the same. I got bored.
Then 5 years ago I found Hua Chenyu. Since then I am listening to his music every day and it never gets boring. Everytime I listen to his songs I find something new.
So happy I found him. Because of him I love music again.

A lot of reactioners compare artists to other artist with the assumption they were influenced by a particular group or artist. That is obviously so ....to an extent. However, not necessarily always. Sometimes when you get an emotionally driven artist like Hua the feelings he is expressing are purely his own even though it may sound similar because emotions are universal. When one is angry or scared they scream...sadness...they cry. Add culture differences for flavor. Asian music has a different slant on chord progression. Art that comes purely from the person is the authentic artist. Many may be influenced...but it wasn't their initial ideal...they imitated another. They may sincerely connect with it....but they didn't discover it within themselves initially.
Hua imitates sometimes. He's a performer and has to fill the bill...but largely he is the consummate original artist. There are pyramids in Egypt....and South America. Neither could know of the other. Two minds can have the same idea independently. Or Aliens. Hmmm...Martians

The theme of this album is very broad, described by Hua as "great love", meaning that the album talks about big things related to the earth like the end of the world, equality between life, ... @@nocturnalowl5867 Can you share the name of the concert? I can't find any info. And did they watch the real sunrise together?
Exploring the Definition of "Sunrise Concert"
      1. Common Types of Overnight Performances (Concerts/Festivals/Shows)
The core concept of an overnight performance is that it must span the time point of 00:00.
1.1 Countdown Live for Special Occasions
These are commonly used to celebrate holidays such as New Year's Day, Spring Festival, or to coincide with promotions and ceremonies. The performance starts the night before and ends at most one hour after midnight, not extending until dawn. However, the total duration of the performance is not short, typically lasting 4 to 5 hours or even longer. The most familiar example is the Chinese Spring Festival Gala. I used to think that Japan's Kohaku Uta Gassen was of this type (since I only watched replayed clips and never followed the live broadcast), but after checking, I found that Kohaku actually ends before midnight and is not an overnight performance.
      1.2 Marathon-Style Overnight Performances
These are common in multi-day music festivals abroad, where camping sites are provided on-site and there are overnight stages. Whether you catch a sunrise or get soaked in rain after partying all night doesn't affect the purpose of the performance itself; any weather only adds to the accumulated atmosphere of the night. There are also individual concerts of this type. I was fortunate to attend an overnight New Year's concert by a rock singer at a live house in Japan, lasting from around 10 PM to 6 AM, divided into three segments (with different setlists for each segment), with a total of about an hour of breaks. According to the singer’s MC, it was "from the end of the last train to the first train of the new year." This singer’s New Year's overnight concerts have been ongoing for years, becoming one of their signature events rather than a one-time occurrence. Such performances seek the thrill and release of nighttime activities, helping to filter out the most dedicated fans and create a more harmonious atmosphere between the stage and the audience.
      2. The Concept of "Sunrise Concert"
The core concept of a sunrise concert is that it must cover the predicted sunrise time on the day of the concert.

    • @nocturnalowl5867
      @nocturnalowl5867 2 месяца назад +11

@@DahliaKuo You can look up The Sunrise Concert held during Ravello Festival at Amalfi Coast, Italy. It’s held annually for a few years now. It starts at 5am and they only play orchestral music in honour of Richard Wagner. I think there was one held in the US for 2000 New Year’s Day. That wasn’t strictly a Sunrise Concert though but to usher in the new millennium.

Ha ha I like your surprised faces. It's not just about being blessed with a stable childhood Johnny. But when one grows and matures, being able to get away from the "always the same thing", which seems comfortably routine to me: MY style of music, MY environment, the way of life of MY country and nothing more. "7 Personalities" is world famous. Far from calling Hua Chen Yu a psycho, let us remember that China is one of the oldest cultures in the world... (hence his reference to Sanskrit). Over the centuries they have passed through religious, philosophical, parental, imperial rules and so much more. It is the cry of rebellion of contemporary man who is AFFECTED, suffocated by all this and tries to free himself. I think that opening our heads to other cultures opens our minds and helps us think, to know. And incorporating new elements into music and culture enriches us. Welcome to get out of our "always the same." Warm greetings from Argentina to both of you. THANK YOU !

7P is truly a masterpiece in HuaHua's repertoire but there are so many, and rightly so. It's typical HuaHua to insist in singing Fale Monk in a competition show, or here to sing 7P at New Year's Gala when everybody sings light happy songs 😂And he was asked to shorten his song and he refused, that was it or nothing 😅 In a way we can say he doesn't care, and he's said so multiple time, but also he has faith in the audience to be open to new styles, he insists in bringing up new styles even if only they bring a little interest, he'll be happy with it. China is opening and changing, but music has mostly consisted in love ballads for many years. Thank you so much for your reaction, we all enjoy them in my groups!

This song is officially named as 《Split》in english in Hua's 4th album《 New World》. The original chinese name of this song is《七重人格》,《Seven Personalities》is short literal translation by fans based on 七=Seven and 人格=Personality before the album with english name was published.(This song was sang on stage and concerts before the album was published). Complete literal translation would be more like Seven Layers of Personalities. I like this album very much, you should listen to all the songs in this album! Very instersting album!

Thanks for another great reaction to Hua Hua. He is an incredible versatile artist. Not all of his songs are quite this "manic" (in the best way possible). I consider Fake Monk and Seven Personalities his more art pieces. And Nunchucks is great for highlighting his versatility and ability to recreate a song into an amazing performance. His other original songs may not be quite like this one; but they are just as creative and innovative. His emotional expressions of each of his songs draws us into him and his lyrics are often very deep. Please more Hua Hua...perhaps Bullfighting, Madhouse, Flower in a Small Town, Illusion and Reality, If The Whole World Forgets Me. He has many beautiful compositions.

Thank you for appreciating Hua Chenyu, not running away. He is fearless and fragile at the same time. With his music he advocates for people with depression and mental illness, a voice for the voiceless, and we love him unconditionally.

Thank you very much for your response! You are very professional. I hope that next time you can listen to his "Bullfighting" or "Illusion and Reality", both of which are very "Hua Chenyu" style works. Trust me, I won't be disappointed after listening.

The thing with some of his songs is that you have to sit down and listen and contemplate. You absolutely caught on his influence - Muse, Radiohead, Queen. No singer in China would ever perform in such an unflattering way, with their face distorted and body contorted. He really pushed the boundaries of what constitute good music in quite conservative China and even for Chinese-speaking people in other countries. He had said before that he would always be proud of his work, with no regrets whatever music critics might say. He said he doesn't compose for the mass market or listeners. If you like his work, you'd listen. If you don't, it's only natural because everybody has different taste. Thanks again guys.

Hua even had a Lyric-less song about cancer & it's progression. In his other performances he turn his voice into instruments too. Check out his Bullfighting & Ashes in the Firework live.

If you want pure artistic expression, look no further than his Cancer which is a lyricless performance.
Hua-Hua takes us through different types of emotional journeys with every song that he performs. There are so many original songs that I am impressed with, that are on my perennial playlist. Bullfighting and Salt of the Earth delve into more big-picture issues like humanity and climate change. I also love his Mars trilogy - 7 Personalities is said to be the summary of this trilogy. When I am feeling down, I enjoy listening to his originals Thousand Miles from Loneliness, I Really Want to Love This World and I Really Want Myself Back. I highly recommend his covers of Child, Lucky as You, and Dancing Diva. Most of all, do react to his performance of Growing towards the Sun in his Sunrise concert - I love how he extended the song with new melody and lyrics.

"Bullfight" (music video) next please. 😊I prefer the recorded/MV version for Bullfight because the layering is best heard that way (plus the visuals add to the intensity/poignancy of the message). The lyrics to Bullfight and Seven Personalities (perhaps by the same lyricist/pretty sure it's not all Hua Chenyu) are deeper than deep -- as deep as the universe is deep, if you're inclined to dive into it. They touch on humanity and our place in the world/universe, and the music itself is transporting and so unique. Plus, Huahua's screams are so cathartic and such a great release for anyone listening. He is pure expression. (Also, I was "like" number 444 so that's fun 😁)

If I recall, the "whoooo whooo whoooo" sound is supposed to mimic an ancient, thousand-year-old chinese flute. I remember him playing around, trying to replicate its sound when he was competing on The Singer. It's supposed to sound raw, very airy and haunting. He replicates it with his own voice really well.

If you're at all familiar with dissociative disorders, this and a few other songs make perfect sense, Hua makes perfect sense. Theres another live version of this song from a concert where he explains what the song is about. I can't remember which concert though, sorry. I have also seen him actually dissociate during a live performance. The crowd must have noticed something, because they started chanting "We love you" repeatedly. He was seated at his piano, completely zoned out. Suddenly he comes back, so to speak, because of the fans chanting.
If you know anyone with this disorder, you will recognize what's happening. I adore him. Many refer to a child-like aspect to Huas personality and they are absolutely correct. Regardless of what he's performing, you can see that wounded child, ever so slightly in his vocals, and especially his eyes.
He has said that Radiohead is his favorite English speaking band. He does a version of "Creep" that is amazing. It's earlier on in his career, so his accent tends to throw people off, esp die-hard Radiohead fans. Find the live version if you can. It's very...Hua.
Love that you guys appreciate this precious, mad genius ❤‍🩹
