Your right that Diana Gabbaldon does alot of research for her books, it takes her 3-4years to write each book and she is currently writing book 10. The first book was published in 1991. Just a fun fact Diana actually wrote episode 11 in season 2 called Vengeance is mine which is personally one of my favourites of this season.
We made "mark me" a drinking game while watching this season xD He does say it A LOT!

The allies would be France and Scotland. Well, the Jacobites anyway. The French also wanted a Catholic KIng on the throne so politics and religion were being mixed in together. I'm so glad you are enjoying the show and the little bits of intrigue thrown in as well
You, Sir Kajo, have a remarkably perceptive political mind. No wonder you enjoy playing chess. Your observations (and enjoyment!) of strategies thought out well in advance of events and how they may affect the course of things, no matter how small the beginnings, is very perceptive.
I don't know if you're a big reader or not. But at the very least, when you finish this series.You should listen to the audio books. It was the first season for me that got me into the books and i'm anxiously awaiting more.
