“My name is Nynaeve ti al’Meara Mandragoran. The message I want sent is this. My husband rides from World’s End toward Tarwin’s Gap, toward Tarmon Gai’don. Will he ride alone?”
That still gives me the chills to read. I cannot wait to see that in live action and they better do one of the greatest acts in the book the justice it deserves.
Great video. Malkier is definitely one of the most interesting nations, or former nations, I guess, in the series. I would absolutely read a book that was just about what Lan and Nynaeve got up to after the Last Battle and how they went about rebuilding Malkier.
If people aren’t aware there have been 5 casting announcements Kae Alexander as Min Sophie Okonedo as Siuan Kate Fleetwood as Liandrin Peter Frenzen as Stepin Claire Perkins as Kerene Spoiler for GOT* Kae played the Child of the Forrest who pushed the Dagger into the Chest of a man who become the first Whitewalker.
My name is Nynaeve ti al’Meara Mandragoran. The message I want sent is this. My husband rides from World’s End toward Tarwin’s Gap, toward Tarmon Gai’don. Will he ride alone?
Great stuff again. Nitpicking only cause you asked so. You missed the don’t talk to women unless they speak first. And women choosing the partners, doing the invites to the bedroom. Explains lan/nynaeve thing
Here's a question for you. Aes Sedai can live for an extended period of time. What about their Warders? Do their Warders also enjoy an extended life span? My hunch is that Warders might live longer than normal, if not necessarily as long as the Aes Sedai they serve.
I just realized Lan's backstory is similar to Superman's, which creates the theory of the existence of comics, near the blight, which where all destroyed by trolloc attacks
Or the Legends of the Dragon book based of Loial's becomes like the Journey to the West and inspires other stories and Lan's character inspires the Westlands versions of comics
Probably pretty accurate I would think. It's thought that the ter'angreal for the testing, esp the Accepted testing are somewhat tied to similar "parallel" worlds. To me, it's even kinda implied that it's like stepping into that parallel version of yourself at a time of huge decision, and that's how the ter'angreal is able to pick something that's so important and gut wrenching to the Novice being tested that she might choose it over The White Tower and the path to being Aes Sedai. I might be totally wrong, but it's how I've always interpreted the vague explanations that are given to the Novices/Accepted, and some I think when Moiraine is reflecting on how similar the glass columns are to The White Towers testing ter'angreal. The glass columns are your ancestors memories (at least the first time), the last time, it's possible futures of descendents. Or, maybe "parallel" futures, or possibly the way it happened during different turnings of the wheel so far in the past that its the presents future. Or who knows I could just be grasping at what I want it to be and rambling about it to you. Lol.
Excellent video and overview. Thanks so much. It brings it all back. I've read these books so many times. Hoping the series can do them justice. Just one small thing. When Myrelle is hiding Lan after taking his bond without permission, Siuan is able to figure this out. To explain how she says: “if you want to keep something hidden, don’t try to buy coin peppers this far south". I have always assumed that mean't the coin or ice peppers mentioned in the books were grown in Malkier.
great job, as usual. The last comment about Nynaeve's life span and the stability of the Mandragoran rule made me think, can Aes Sedai bear children for a hugely expanded time period? I know they typically don't, but if a strong Aes Sedai is in their physical prime for hundreds of years...that could be a helluva big fam
Two semi related questions: 1) can you please do a character analysis on Bayle Domon? And 2) is a shoufa an acceptable face covering for the current times we live in?
The shoufa covers the head and not the face. It’s a separate piece of cloth called a veil which covers the face. I would suggest maintaining a good distance from anyone wearing a black face covering.
Malkier has a few traditions that are a bit unsavory. I like to think Lan and Nynaeve steered things in a different direction for future generations. Nobody should feel obligated to engage in certain activities, know what I mean?
Excellent job, I never thought about it but with Malkier, Andor, and the Aiel all shepherded by women with the one power for at least hundreds of years the west could be a very stable place.
Yeah in a way. Though the Aiel didn't seem to start out that way and the wise one's were mostly focused on minimizing damage and preventing outright monster wars instead of total Aiel unity. Malkier and it's predecessors all fell due to conspiracy and the machinations of both Darkfriends and the shadow as well as those of simple power hungry people as well as being so close to the blight and difficult to lead as one entity. Andor also has elements of that as well, starting to have Succession wars often and becoming bogged down by bloated Nobility.
If the ter'angreal used for the raising of the accepted is any indication for future truth, Nynaeve and Lan will have a few children. Ya'll remember Sharina Sedai? Oh, and great job as always btw, Nae'blis 🙂
Thanks for the Spoiler Alerts! I just began A Memory of Light and I want to see what happens as the story plays out. I’m going to binge-watch your posts when I’m done!!! (Even if you are an incredibly powerful being, chosen to ….) :) :0 ;).
Randland has some of the weirdest population dispersals that I've ever seen in a fantasy map. I mean, sure I get it that as in many High Fantasy there is a retreat of Man from the overarching Evil, but it really doesn't make sense in the described history of the previous thousand years of Randland. There are vast tracts of land (and not the fun kind for Monty Python fans) that are completely uninhabited or even just sparely so where there should be thriving nations. Everything exists in the areas north of Andor and south of Cairihien so support a nation: easy access to lines of communication, natural resources for trade and arable farmland in plenty. Considering the bulging populations of some of the major cities, it makes no sense at all for these areas to be uncolonized at the very least by the major nations, or minor nations in their own right. Ah, well; the story is as it is.
Partly because the shadows forces has spent centuries spreading chaos in those areas in particular because they are so productive. It's to the point that even without the shadow, those regions are ruled by small local Lord's and petty tyrants who have created a system of alliances and feuds so complicated that one would basically hace to be as bad as a Darkfriend to unite the areas and even then the shadow would get involved and even the white tower as part of their whole MO.
Just finished the last book yesterday. One thing I haven't seen mentioned in the "what comes next" content is that with the blight gone, will the borderlands expand their holdings or new nations be created Northward? There is extensive territory up there available now and the harshness of the environment not so extreme. Possibly even reversed.
Still cold and in a world where the population has been in a severe decline for generations. Mountain men, prospectors and the like sure, but a nation? I don't think so, not anytime soon anyway.
Interesting that the land along the Blight was located within two Nations during the Compact of the Ten Nations. Whereas afterwards, 4 nations arose. Later on (after the fall of Artur Hawkwing, 5 nations arose. Not sure why i find this interesting, but I do. There were a few other notable Malkerians, including the Darkfriend that Lan killed in NS. For the government section, what was the deal with the casting of the Rods. IIRC, it was said that if one rod was cast differently, than Lan's father would not have been king. Does that mean Malkier is not a hereditary monarchy per se? Rather. is it more like Andor when the head woman of each of the 18 Great Houses has to select monarch. By tradition, if a daughter-heir is alive, then they will all cast their votes for the daughter-heir. But if she is not alive, you can have a Succession.
I, too, wondered about this Rod casting which determined that one brother and not the other ascended to the throne. I appreciate the wide variety of governing systems RJ gives us in the series, and details like this are part of what make this world feel so rich and textured.
The 2 solid nations turning to 4 then being consolidated then falling apart into even more nations is very cool. Shows that the Borderlands, however strong they all arw, are in decay. Really makes the turn to the Dark of a certain borderlander more tragic just like the discussion about how more and more land is falling into chaos and then desolation.
I don't know much about content creation and such, but I am wondering why there is such a lack of covering of the casting of Min and Siuan? I mean it is not just you, who needs to make a script and record the thing, but also WotSeries.com who has since posted another article and skipping over the news entirely (it seems). Am I missing something? These are fairly major characters that people have been waiting to hear about, so I would think that it would be out very quickly.
@@NaeBlis Thank you for the reply. I was just wondering because I have actually almost exclusively seen this on unrelated sites that doesn't have a big focus on WoT.
@6'20'' why do you use the word "decimated" to descibe an army which was EXTERMINATED? ...sad to see that "decimated" has become popular and over used to talk about a carnage, but it means "reduced by 10%"; it was a roman army practice to execute one soldier out if 10-->10%
“My name is Nynaeve ti al’Meara Mandragoran. The message I want sent is this. My husband rides from World’s End toward Tarwin’s Gap, toward Tarmon Gai’don. Will he ride alone?”
Too bad Lan was too emo or whatever to rally his bannermen himself.
"I swear to you under the Light and by my hope of rebirth and salvation, he will not ride alone."
That still gives me the chills to read. I cannot wait to see that in live action and they better do one of the greatest acts in the book the justice it deserves.
@@TankInATree It's the single line I'd want to hear from a Nynaeve casting, to make sure it's the right person.
One of the best moments in the story hands down
The Golden Crane flies for Tarmon Gai’don
The down vote is a dark friend
An Aes Sedai does what she does for her own reasons.

Malkier, in our hearts forever.

Kae Alexander as Min
Sophie Okonedo as Siuan
Kate Fleetwood as Liandrin

Solid timing for this video. I just got a personalized license plate that says Malkier. I can just show people this video now.

Probably pretty accurate I would think. It's thought that the ter'angreal for the testing, esp the Accepted testing are somewhat tied to similar "parallel" worlds. Great video Naeblis - I love these detailed book-related videos, must have taken a lot of work and it shows!
