Thanks, you two. This conversation is one I have had in the congregation I serve (staff but not ordained). I'm a convert of about 20 years from very "hip" evangelicalism. And I love the liturgy and all we bring (or could bring) to the larger church as Lutherans. I love the comment on bringing joy to the liturgy. Good heavens in the LCMS we war over it so often and if people with "outside eyes" could lead congregations through the liturgy with all the treasures we have discovered---or at least teaching about it in that way. The essentials should bring joy simply because they are essential. Again, thank you for this wonderful dialogue. God has blessed for a season already with Kelsi and now with the other half in Doug. God bless you and your family.
I’m an LCMS elder and I can say one of the biggest shortfalls in our church in these days is being able to answer questions. This isn’t the internet I’m talking about I’m talking about the real world. I have people asking me questions about aliens, evolution, gnostic texts, etc. Over the last 2 years I’ve done a deep dive into finding out the biblical response to these questions. Pastors in my area are clueless or just don’t care. I feel if more LCMS theologians, pastors, elders would actually study up and engage with “intellectuals” we’d have more people joining the church and joining it confidently. Hope this can help. God Bless.
