      Hard hits like these occur at all levels. High schoolers hit hard to impress college scouts. The harder they hit could get them noticed by an elite program. Once in college, they continue hit hard, to try go impress professional scouts in hope to either be drafted by a team or at least get an invite to tryout for the team roster or a position on the practice squad.

    Often, when a ref fails to call a foul for unnecessary roughness or something like that, the players will get even on the field. There are players that intend to hit this hard every time they tackle. But there are several revenge slams in this video. When refs fail, the players get more dangerous.

    A lot of these resulted in concussions, a few resulted in broken or bruised ribs. Even through all that padding, the hits are BRUTAL. Oddly, these are some of the more 'crowd pleasing' hits because some I've seen are FAR worse. Kurt Warner to Anquan Boldin comes to mind, where 2 guys impacted his helmet so hard that it completely shattered his jaw. He had to have a plate put in and lots of screws, dental work, and stitches. The DeSean Jackson crossing pattern hit was one of the hardest small guy hits ever, and that's not on here. The corner and Jackson got a concussion and it was a clean hit (shoulder on shoulder). One of the hardest hits I've seen on live TV didn't look hard unless you looked at what happened, ever want a see 185 lb. dude get blindside hit by a 450+ lb. monster going full speed? It was a clean hit to his stomach and chest and he had bruised ribs and whiplash. That's what happened to poor Donald Driver WR for the Bills when he got hit by Vince Wilfork NT for the Patriots.

    The point of the massive impact hits is intimidation. Like you would want the opposing receiver (ball catcher) to be more focused on the impact he is about to take rather than catching the ball. Or the quarterback (thrower) won't be able to get through his progressions before feeling the need to throw. Wrapping up and tackling with proper form is how you bring someone down reliably. The big hits are high risk-high reward plays.

    • @thebackyardbear

      Even as a kid, the coach told us to hit the other guy hard enough to make him afraid of you. Seriously... I was 9. He wasn't joking... it was his instruction, and he meant it. He explained that if they were thinking about YOU, they weren't thinking about their job on the next play. Our defensive line would PUNISH their offensive line so much at the start of the game, by the second quarter, they were immediately retreating at the snap, collapsing the pocket on the QB. It was a brutal strategy, but it worked. He even instructed me once to jump offsides on the first snap of the game, told me to roll the center over and lay the QB out... before the snap. I asked about the penalty, he said, it would be worth it. The center was so twitchy for the rest of the game, they fumbled the snap 4 times.

    The tactical reason they try to hit hard is to separate the man from the ball. If you knock the ball out of the opposing players hands, then your team can recover it or force an incomplete pass. The other reason is psychological warfare. If a receiver gets hit hard, he’ll be thinking about it every time he runs in that same area and it throws his game off. Of course most defenders just like putting a good hit on someone too.

  • @obcane3072
    @obcane3072 2 года назад

    Most of the game is rugby style tackles (fundamental blocks). These hits are rarer (2-3 per game). They serve to dislodge the ball, intimidate the receiver from making an easy catch over the middle (an open spot that offenses like to attack due to spacing issues), prevent a first down (the yellow line on the screen is where the most vicious hits can occur, and lastly the hype up the team.
    In the old days the defender would stand over the opponent and taunt him and some have dropped to all 4 to bark at the knocked out opponent. The modern prayer circle didn't exist in the 70s or 80s. Just part of the game.
    So players that are hit are taught to hold on to the ball no matter what because you're still going to get hit and to pop right back up not to give opponent satisfaction. It's their way of deflating the hitter showing it didn't faze them. Then they go to sideline and pass out . The culture was different in the past. Now it's like soccer begging for a flag.

    If your teammate has the ball and an opponent is attempting to tackle them, you can shove the opponent to the ground. It's called a "Block", but you have to be careful how you do it, because you can get a penalty for "unnecessary roughness"

    The more responsible youth leagues strongly prohibit helmet-to-helmet contact and teach "heads up" tackling to prevent concussions. That's not to say they don't still throw each other and that shoulder tackles don't pack a punch, but they also learn how to take a hit. My boy ended up in football because he played too rough with kids his age. He loves it!

  • @Terrell070
    @Terrell070 3 года назад

    Yeah. The sport used to be even more violent. Prior to rules changes in 1906 College Football players were dying on the field. NFL wasn't around yet. Rules changes included, ban on the flying wedge play. The players would line up like a V but inverted (for the offense) and charge headlong into one another snapping the ball right before they reached the line of scrimmage. The formation was banned, now you are required to have 7 men on the line of scrimmage at the snap, none moving forward.
    The men on the either end of the line must be an eligible receiver. Forward motion, by the offense at the snap is a 5 yard penalty for American football is illegal motion. Canadian Football allows men in the backfield to be moving forward at the snap. You must have 7 men on the line of scrimmage in both American & Canadian Football. In both codes it's a 5 yard penalty. Americans call it Illegal Formation, Canadians call it No End. Receivers were originally called ends.
    They also increased the amount of yards needed to keep the ball from 5 to 10 yards in 3 downs. 4th Down would be added to American Football in 1912. Canadian Football didn't add 4th Down. The forward pass was also added.
    You should check out Best Traditions in College Football parts 1 & 2. College Football is very big in the U.S.. College games, in some places have larger attendance than NFL games.

    Depends on position for career longevity. RBs its rare for 10 years, WR sameand CB, QB lasts longer LB too then offensive and defensive lines they just switch them in and out

    Ya might wanna look up CTE and players donating their brains for research after death. Helmets can't stop the brain from going 60km/hr one direction then immediately 30 the other direction

    Yeah the popular expression that you’re taught from peewee football on is “you need to have your head on a swivel!” Or these kind of hits happen. Also wanted to note that most of these would be illegal hits now. Look up CTEand the NFL they have better equipment now and the rules have changed but these guys still get concussions.

    Out of curiosity. Any plans on doing TV shows or movies besides video clips. There's a huge audience for good content creators in that genre

    It's time for the beauty of American football. Try "Barry Sanders' 50 greatest runs" from NFL productions and "Best Hurdles In Football History" by Ding Productions.

    Is it possible they hit the guy so hard his head would pop off? The helmet came off a few times how much harder do you have to hit for the head to go with it?

    Watch the offense take their turn in "disrespectful stiff arms" or "super-human plays". Either video by DingProd is good.
