I actually was in a car with my sister and saw that ambulance pull into the gates. I’ll never forget that!! When we came back, from the theater in Whitehaven, there where hundreds of people standing outside the gates.

I was in the U.S Army at Fort Stewart Georgia when i heard the news. Spy Guy Thank You for taking the time to do this video. I saw Elvis twice. Once in 1973 and again in 1976 in Macon Georgia. When Elvis was in Atlanta in the 70"s My Brothers Band (Legend) did the Elvis Show on a Float down Peachtree St. Elvis came out of his room onto the balcony and watched them. He said that they were the only band that ever performed his show in front of him. So Cool.

Anybody that puts this much time and effort into investigating the day that Elvis passed away and his past would be proud to call you their friend. Thank you for all of your great videos. I've been a firefighter/paramedic for 37 years and I know their response time would have been just a few minutes. I love your video and I'm glad you had the chance to purchase the ambulance and put it in your museum 👍. I remember that day very well. My mom, dad, two sisters and myself were on I-29 headed north to my aunt and uncle's house in Iowa from Missouri and all they played on the radio was Elvis Presley songs. What a sad day in history. From your document and our medical calls, even if when we show up on a call and we know the the victim is deceased, we cannot make the legally render them deceased. It has to be done by a doctor in a hospital and not in the field. We as E.M.T.s and Paramedics can't make that call.

Nowadays if the patient is already deceased, we don't transport the body. The coroner for the county it occurred in is notified and he or she has to go to the scene, assess the scene and individual, pronounce the person deceased and question any witnesses present to see if it's a crime scene or not. All sudden deaths and unwitnessed deaths require an autopsy by law unless they expire in a hospital, coroner's don't pronounce those, Doctor`s do those. If the patient was on hospice in the home, the nurse is notified to come to the scene also.

I got to see Elvis Presley in concert on February 19 1977. One of the best concerts I have ever attended. When he passed away in August I was so surprised.
He had no life because everyone expected something from him. 😢

Brings back memories when the news announced Elvis's passing. For me it felt like a member of my family had passed. My world was devastated. Me my mom got as far as Nashville and turned around and came home. Where we usually stayed was at the Howard Johnson's and everything in Memphis was booked because of the Shriner's Convention so we were told. Everything thing was fully booked. All I could do was go home and watch it on TV and cry like a baby. Thank you for reenacting this for the fans.

The concept for this video was spot on, Spa Guy. I was 14 years old when we heard the tragic news. Most people posting comments here based on their own theories can well imagine the stories which appeared in print in the hours, days and weeks following the news report of "3:30 pm, August 16th, 1977." I was sharing a car ride home with my father from my very first summer job which I had started on July 1, 1977 [Actor Liv Tyler's birthday by the way.] The family were living on a campgrounds for 6 weeks during the summer while my Dad and I worked at a Canadian Army Camp, known as "Camp Ipperwash, in Ontario, Canada. I mention these details just in case an old friend my be reading my comments. I didn't have a radio playing all day when I think about it which seemed odd. My Dad and I didn't have the car radio on either. Strange. I approached our trailer at the campsite and it was my Mother who asked me, "Did you hear the news about Elvis ...?"
Returning to our interesting story and "mystery" I guess one could say. My Canadian friends and I puzzled over the details of this tragic and rather bizarre day in musical history for years afterward.
During my comments posted under the Sandi Miller interviews I mentioned a couple of Canadian Elvis fans, friends of mine and I were keen on collecting Elvis concerts filmed by fans from the audience, etc. One year, I would say maybe 1990 or 1991, one of my Canadian friends who live in my city, announced he was planning his annual journey to Memphis, Tennessee. This time I pressed $100 U.S. in his hands with the goal to locate some of those precious rare Elvis concerts. He returned from Memphis and I was very pleased to receive a couple of VHS tapes with those prized Elvis pirate concert recordings on them.
I know my post is growing long here but, please bear with me. One evening when my wife at the time and children were retired for the evening, I took advantage of some quiet time to view my coveted Elvis VHS tapes. Fantastic. Now for the good bit.
I was surprised and shocked actually to see a homemade video clip, in colour, of the following scene: now some of you may have read about this story in author Mr. Jerry Hopkin's book titled, "Elvis: The Final Years." If memory serves me I read about the following story: apparently two super fans of Elvis had arranged to have a chevy van customized for Elvis. They had contacted Joe a week or a month, I don't recall the time frame, and explained to Joe Esposito if Elvis would like to take a ride in their gift to him. Joe said he would ask Elvis and maybe he would ride in the van on the way to Memphis airport in preparation for Elvis' next tour which most Elvis fans know was scheduled for August 17, 1977 in Portland, Maine. The print story explains the customization of the van, their gift to Elvis, was completed on August 15. On the afternoon of August 16, 1977 they drove up to the gates of Graceland hoping Elvis might see the van on one of his closed circuit cameras. They then crossed Elvis Presley Blvd and parked across the street near the shops located there. Opened the side van doors to film inside the van. Remember the video clip I discovered on that VHS tape of Elvis concerts?? The clip shows the doors to the van open. It was a bright summer day. Due to the quality of the picture and lighting in those days, all the viewer could see was darkness when the camera operator pointed the camera toward the inside of the van. I guess at the same time they were keeping an eye across the street at the music gates. I don't have the tape anymore friends, but, what I saw next on the film inspired me to watch this clip over and over and over and over and over and over. The camera operator recorded an ambulance enter Graceland. The film is a bit grainy so I didn't pickup the Ambulance No. Then shortly after, I mean moments later, a car approached the gates and they were allowed to pass. Then seconds later a second car approached the gates and was allowed to pass. My educated guess is one car was Vernon Presley driving and the second car was Dr. Nick, or reversed order. The camera operator did their level best to record the scene up the driveway, near the steps leading through the front door, but, the greenery from the expansive trees don't allow a lot of clear footage. In fact, the viewer sees very little activity. You can imagine the guy holding the camera was frozen and riveted. Remember video in those days for the consumer was silent. Colour picture yes, but, no sound. So I don't know the gents thoughts if they were saying anything at all. If I had been there with them at that moment I would have been rendered speechless. Then after what seems an eternity, the camera follows the ambulance as best he can down the driveway through the gates. Then the scene edits to the crowds forming in front of the music gates. Well, thanks to those readers and Spa Guy for reading this far. That is my strange recollection of this rare piece of footage. I don't have anything to gain by fabricating a story. I believe this piece of footage was posted on RUclips years ago. I will try to locate it. If I am successful I will let Spa Guy know. Finally, I have offered this recently and I will repeat it again. For all those Elvis fans who feel indifferently towards Joe Esposito , a family member, a girlfriend, I offer this: just simply let it go. Time is to precious and short in this life to be harbouring ill towards a Past we know so little about. Enjoy Elvis' musical legacy. Well, there is my strange story. I invite your comments Pro and Con. Thank for reading my long note here. I thought I should attempt to recall the details of this vhs recording I owned all those years ago. Imagine if we had owned iPhones back in 1977.

As a former 911 Paramedic I do have something to add. When an Ambulance arrives on scene there are certain criteria that you can say the person the is dead and not performing any actions on them. If the person does not follow the guidelines of obvious death ( even though you know they are DOA) you need to get a doctor to say to call the patient as deceased. To do this you would need to call the hospital and get a doctor on the phone which could take time. For me it would take 10 mins, but in 1977 that could be even up to 20 mins. We are taught that for high profile (in my case children because it is a small town but celebrities are in this case) because you can get into legal issues of not performing any actions while awaiting for a doctor you grab them and go to the hospital just like they are alive and let the doctor right away call the death. With the celebrity status of Elvis they would want to try everything even though nothing could be done.

I was 10 years old, my family was on vacation the morning of august 16 1977, we took pics at the gate uncle Vester talked to us and offered to take un on a golf cart to the front of the mansion, we were able to get out and take pics in front of the lions and Elvis's Blackhawk was parked in the drive, mom asked Vester if E. was there and he said yes he was sleeping. we left and as we were driving to Nashville on 40, a DJ came on the radio and said Elvis was dead, mom freaked! she had a connection, when she was 6 her mom took her to Shreveport to the hayride and mom got a kiss and got to sit in Elvis's lap, she also got an autographed pic of Elvis and everyone else on the hayride that night. We cherish those memories and I am taking my now 75 year old mother and my young family back this summer! Making more memories! Scott Cozart That's very interesting, considering that is exactly my current situation.
It was about a year ago, for a couple of days, I watched a few videos. Then that was it.
Albeit, I did visit Graceland, circa 2003, but knew *nothing* about him. I just knew he was *the king of rock and roll* And was a legend. I had/have never watched a movie nor listened to a full song he sang.
I had just heard stories or seen the *sightings of Elvis* on all the tabloids. But I never even knew that his passing was shrouded in mystery... I had never heard of *The Memphis Mafia*... I just turned 44. I was 2 when he died. My dad had tickets to an upcoming concert. But Ive never even ask if he has the stub or proof. It had never dawned on me to ask him, until now.
After listening to & watching all these videos, I'd really love to go back to Graceland to understand more about the place & the people that filled it up.

Thank you so very much for making this video it was really interesting to hear those details even though I knew them as far as you know him being found in the bathroom by Ginger and then Joe and Vernon coming upstairs and everyone panicking and such and then the ambulance coming, I knew all that, but it was nice to hear and see you explain it all in detail and actually take the routes the ambulance took and show us everything that really brought it home. I was fortunate enough to visit Graceland in 2006 when that gift shop and restaurant was still across the street that they’ve since knocked down as well the Elvis Sirius XM broadcasting booth. In fact, we were watching Big Jim Sykes doing the show and he came out and interviewed us on the air it was pretty cool I took a video of it playing on the speakers outside the booth next to the gift shop when he aired it a few minutes later. I remember my first night there we were staying at the heartbreak hotel and I couldn’t stay in my room after we checked in at night because I was just too antsy so I had to walk to at least look at the house with my own eyes for the first time with my daughters and I was talking to the security guard and he filled me in on a little detail that if you show up at 7:30 in the morning for one hour you’re allowed to walk in for free and go visit Elvis by his grave and I did that every single morning it was great. Anyway thank you for doing this video it’s great to share the love I have for Elvis with you and so many other people who feel the same so thanks Spa Guy.

Im 52 and when they announced that Elvis died on TV that August day i was 9 us old, down in my dads basement in Toledo Ohio with tornadoes touching down less than a half mile from where we were, but the news channel actually interrupted the tornado warning AS THE TORNADO IS ON THE GROUND, to announce them finding Elvis dead on his bathroom floor. I remember it vividly like it was yesterday

So crazy I was also 9 and lived just north of you in Onsted Mi. I don’t remember the tornados, though. We shopped in Toledo all the time.

Great video. Love the part of the speedy ambulance Sirens & lights going. It seemed to me tho that the distance between the dispatch station & Graceland was a long way away. But I know that every ambulance can't be right next door to every emergency.
Can you just imagine Elvis up there singing and he looks down and he sees all the things that are happening for this anniversary, it's so amazing to remember his songs.

Unfortunately even in more urban areas the station dispatched may not be the closest one. The closer one may already be on an emergency. In the suburbs where I live you could have an ambulance stationed within 2 blocks but due to politics the ambulance dispatched comes from over 2 miles away.

They should of never called that doc Nick. He was cruel to Elvis. Drug pusher instead of caring and should of went to prison. Should called 911 and others there should took turns giving CPR and told 912 want closes ambulance by and should been praying cause he did believe in Jesus. No telling if he was dead as long as stated cause figure the time it took That Dr Nick get there. Wrong choice. Had no time for him. His girlfriend did not act or respond normal in a situation like that. And why was she asleep that time of day if she said they quit having sex cause he didn't desire to...Who knows if she did something to him. One thing she didn't get him proper help. 9111and Jesus first. She knew Nick was a bad doc. Sad. Elvis didn't derve the way he was treated

Billy, I have watched this video a few times and I think that the timeline fits more with Dr. Nick being called first and 911 being called later. It is incredible that you found that document in one of Elvis's favorite restaurants. There are so many things that don't add up about the death of Elvis so I am thankful that you are always open minded, and try your best to find the truth. Just like many others who love Elvis I want to believe that Elvis didn't die on Aug. 16th, 1977 however I have to be truthful and say that I believe that Elvis left this world on 8-16-77 and I think he passed away a few hours before he was found. It is so sad. I mean he was loved and cherished by millions yet he passed on with noone by his side. He was always trying to make others happy but as you know after he lost his Mother he was devastated. I believe that his fans kept him going when he had to return to the army after losing her with thier out pouring of mail and love. Then after he wed Precilla and became a father it gave him someone to love and take care of again so he did great for several more years, but after Precilla left and he finally realized that she wasn't comeing back he was hurt and again devastated. Linda Thompson helped him through almost five years before he met Ginger as many know. Elvis was such a proud man and was so hurt about the book 'Elvis What Happened' that was comeing out plus all of the years in Las Vegas doing two shows a day had taken it s toll on him and with Parker getting 50% of all of Elvis's earings Elvis still paid all exspences and payroll. I didn't mean to get into all of that but just saying he had been through so much and still had alot on him. I know that I don't have to tell you any of these things about Elvis as you know practically everything about Elvis however some readers may not. I am thankful that he had his faith. Maybe God knew how tired Elvis was and decided to let him come on home where he could rest. Thank you again for all of your knowledge and work and for sharing with all of us who still love this wonderful man. God Bless.

We raced up to graceland from florida for the funeral and my dad put me up on the wall to see what was happening. Wasn't the front entrance but a behind or side view. I saw a lot of people coming and going. We were there day before day of and day after. Don't remember which day I sat on the wall. I was 12 yrs old and my mother and I were crazy for Elvis. Completely overwhelmed by the loss and still love the feeling of loving that special person. Will always love Elvis. Cheers to all of you who do as well
