I have thrown Felons for a while, (Lucid, Orbit/Fuzion, and Fuzion-X). I have a new FD3 in orange and another in blue. The new FD3 is far more stable than the Orbit/Fuzion Felon, and more stable than a Lucid Felon. I would say its on par with a Fuzion-X Felon. I love the Felons flight and use it forehand and backhand. I'd say the numbers on these FD3's new would be 9/3/0/4. Being C-line though, I am sure they will beat in fast. My C-line DD3, MD3, and PD have beat in fast, almost too fast, so I'm sure the FD3 will too.
Yeah I agree, it was very close to my Hybrid-X Felon! And that would make sense about the durability. I think thats what a lot of people say about the trilogy plastic, that it beats in quite a bit. But I don't think it's too big of a deal because it makes it much easier to cycle them!
for a normal guy (max +350) the splice didn't have a place in my bag at all. Unless you need something to 100% dump left and not go very far. Tried both the primal run and the stock run, on my shelf they remain. FD3 has been great for forehands for me, still working on throwing shots backhand with it.
FD3 was my favorite disc for a long time, but they have a lot of variability across plastics and runs. I loved the stock Innova C-Line FD3, the color glow Innova FD3s were way less overstable, similar to a new thunderbird like you said. The new Discmania C-Line plastic is quite different, but the mold is fairly close to the old mold. Maybe a bit more blunt at the edge with a flatter top side to the wing. I've found enough variability in the 9-speed OS slot across manufacturers that you really just got to find ones that fly well for you regardless of the brand. That being said, I've bagged 2 FD3s for several years now.
Yeah, I honestly like discs that have some variability! Like I have been throwing Felons now, and I really like how you can have a lucid one that’s pretty straight, but still hooks up at the end, and then you can have a Lucid-X that is a beef cake! And you don’t need different molds for those slots
This whole time I thought the FD3 was a OS version of the FD. I wanted a disc to replace my Firebird. I saw there were Eagle stamped FD3's on the website and immediately got 3 of them once I heard the Mind Bender's were restocked. Very satisfied at how it flies. I love my FD, but I need something to torque over on longer holes. This disc does not disappoint.
great timing on the video, I got the FD3 just last week and it is the same color with a black stamp. that being said I paid close attention to everything you compared it to and left with one question, once this breaks in, do you see it going further distance wise? also, Can you also start giving us some general range estimation? I know mileage varies depending on arm strength, but the hole you're throwing it looks like a 300 ft hole, so it would be nice to have an idea of trajectory and distance potential and that would help with the idea of breaking it in for an additional 50ft. etc. great timing on the video again!
Thanks! And the hole I am throwing it on is a 365ft hole! And the forehand was on a 275ft hole I think? So the flexes were probably going like 325ish? With the flat throws going 310ish? Maybe 315? But yeah, the disc should go further when you beat it in! But I wouldn’t count on that being a cycling disc that can go super far, they are meant to be more of a shorter utility driver!
Some of the Dismania drivers had an "anhyzer top" so they were less stable than similar Innova versions that used the same rims. That's why the plates bend downwards at the edge. Like the FD3 was less stable than the Firebird. Nowadays it seems the new driver molds don't have flight plates as understable, so they're more stable in general than their old molds. BTW I suspect Discmania may have deliberately stored these differently to produce more or less stable versions, as some of the FD3s were pretty stable - a lot more comparable with your average Firebird.
Yeah that's what I keep hearing! I always thought they were generally a touch less overstable than Firebirds though? That's why Paul liked throwing them because they were a little more mellow

The "old" FD3 you tried is one of the last run (Discmaniac) produced by Innova and it's the least overstable version. They might be different in different colors, but this one was definitely Overstable! Like I would trust this more than the C-Line PD… but I didn’t test those side by side… like you can even see when I threw it hard on anny it fought out of it nearly as fast as my glow Firebird! Yeah? That sounds nice! I have never thrown any FD3’s before these! I was definitely more familiar with Firebirds and Felons! It’s just a lot harder to find old FD3’s if you don’t already have them since they have been out of production for so long!
All about that arm speed
Even with high arm speeds I don’t think you need much more than this! This is pretty beefy! And I throw about 380ish… but I think even if you throw about 425ft, which covers the vast majority, I think this would be enough! And if you throw more than that… well then you don’t need to be listening to me anyways 😂
@@ApolloDiscGolf I use the new metal flake FD3 for forehands
Yeah it is very nice for forehands!
Am I the only one who thinks this is the flippiest Fd3 ever?? I have an old Eagle McMahon Crush boys in c-line and it's much more stable. I've moved to stable runs of invictus' and pds over the fd3s as the torque resistance of even the more stable Fd3 is slowly disappearing as I progress. This EO mf Fd3 flies like an instinct for me, it is nowhere close to overstable. Just my opinion, but I'm surprised to see a lot of people thinking they are overstable when even discmania said they are more neutral when they released? I'd love to hear more on this.
They might be different in different colors, but this one was definitely Overstable! Like I would trust this more than the C-Line PD… but I didn’t test those side by side… like you can even see when I threw it hard on anny it fought out of it nearly as fast as my glow Firebird! And was very close to the Hybrid-X Felon and those are pretty Overstable as well! But I can’t say much about other runs of the FD3 because these two were all I have thrown!
@@ApolloDiscGolf I might try a few different colors then! I've got a black EO stamp right now. I'll see if I can find a teal one! My first ace was with my that crush boys Fd3 and it has been one of my favorite disc's to date, hopefully I can find one that works! Great comparison video!
Yeah, I have only thrown this blue one and it’s nice and overstable! I haven’t thrown any of the older ones to compare though! Hopefully it’s comparable to the crush boy one!
FD3 beats in pretty straight
I’m 41, get ready 😂
I just got a Volt and even that is overstable enough for me.
Yeah, I have never really needed super OS discs like others do!
@@ApolloDiscGolf I do throw a FX-2 and Invictus as well. Mostly when there is a headwind. I am getting lots of discs and still trying to figure out which ones are going in and out of the bag. It is always changing it seems. I do seem to be going more towards MVP and Prodigy though atm. Still wish prodigy would fix its flashing issues. I have to sand down about 50% of all the discs I get from them lol.
Yeah, they make solid discs too when they don’t have flashing!
Feel like this video is misleading… the color glow fd3 can’t be compared with the new fd3. The color glow fd3 is more like a ns firebird. You should compare it to an old fd3 mf or regular c-line
Yeah, this was the only one I had! I don’t have any FD3’s myself, I just borrowed this one! This is the only one I have ever thrown! And it was even less overstable than my sexton! My sexton still don’t turn at all in the wind, this gave me a bit of turn!
No, don’t do this to me! I don’t need more discs!
😂😂😂
Just trying to help people make informed decisions!
I would never buy that disc because of how it looks. I hate the sparkles.
To each their own! I personally like them! It’s all preference though! A glow on would be sick whenever they release the doom birds!
You think 30's tough? It's all downhill from there man lol
I was waiting for this comment 😂
@@ApolloDiscGolf I'm 13 years past you. I had to throw standstill only for the past few weeks cause I planted wrong or something 😂
Ha. By 40 you will be posting about new insoles you have found. By 45 you will be posting about new pants which have the luxury of a reading glasses pocket. By 50 you will be posting about new strength and conditioning exercises. But seriously, your casual bench talks about thoughts on new discs is enjoyable content. Cheers.
@@Robotron2084Guide oh man, I can’t wait to be excited about reading glasses pockets 😂
54 here and only playing about 3 years. I do a run up but distance is not much different than my stand still. I can only throw 330 at best but I know a couple of geezers like me (but have been life long players) that throw 400 to 450 still.
I refuse to buy Discmania until they address the arrest of their leader. Terrible image for the sport
Yeah, it’s definitely not a good look… but I feel like they have addressed it… Jussi publicly apologized, is paying the consequences, and has committed to getting help to get better. And Discmania has said that he is now on leave for the foreseeable future until he can handle all that stuff… if you’re not ready to forgive him, that’s one thing, and that’s fine. But I feel like they have done their part… he apologized, is paying the consequences of his actions and is taking steps so it never happens again… that’s like textbook what to do when you screw up. I’m not sure what more you want them to do?
