- Now this was a fun one. One of the most unique feeling and flying discs I've ever thrown, to say the least 😂 Fun little battle playing Maple Hill Reds with the guys from Foundation Disc Golf. Shoutout to Hunter, Trevor and Connor for coming to Mass to check Maple Hill off of their bucket list! A video of us playing the gold's layout will be coming to their channel at some point.

Here's the context for the screaming at 15:10 😂 me, my cousin's and brother have a long standing doubles rivalry. We were up by 1 stroke and parked hole 18 for par. The other team had to throw in a 150 footer to tie it up and.... they hit it on their last shot. It was unbelievable to say the least 😅

Same! That first throw disappeared behind the trees and I remember thinking, "Hmm. Maybe these will catch on. They are a lot heavier so the wind would -- " CLANG! BANG! Don't know if they actually did but it felt like everyone ducked. Someone said it sounded like a car crash! I chuckled over this for about five straight minutes.
Can you imagine a course full of people throwing those discs? (It would be hella dangerous, too.)

Heavier discs are more stable because gyroscopic stability is stronger due to more mass rotating, causing a stronger centripetal force, so they don't turn, but the shear force of gravity compensates linearly with the mass of the disc when it starts to drop (it falls faster because it's denser), meaning the fade is largely unaffected. Variance in the production process and flaws within the plastic dominates that variation if we're talking 172 or 175 grams, but with a jump from 160 (normal glitch) to 340, it's the other way around.
I'm assuming you get the same amount of spin on the heavier discs as the light ones here, of course.

Fade occurs when the weight of the disc exceeds the aerodynamic lift. I terms of a wing, the disc "stalls". The heavy disc is flying slower, so it has less lift right out of your hand, then it loses speed to drag at the same rate a normal glitch would. Since it weighs much more and is moving significantly slower, the aluminum disc slows to its stall speed much faster than a plastic disc would. It's really the same phenomenon as when I, with my noodle arm, throw a 175g overstable disc. It seems much more stable than the flight numbers indicate because it's moving so slowly.

I was a little disappointed that the gyro wasn't aluminum with normal plastic core. It would be cool to see how far the extreme gyro effect could make a disc go
