Same thing here brothers and sisters
Wilkine Brutus Me too!
Olatunji is a Trinidadian. He is a citizen of Trinidad and Tobago. Trinidad and Tobago is a Caribbean island. The genre of music he is singing is called Soca music in Trinidad and Tobago. Soca music first started in Trinidad and Tobago by fusing African drums and rhythms with East Indian drums and rhythms. Soca music has evolved over the years to what is its present sound. We in the caribbean have African, East Indian, Chinese, Spanish, Portuguese, Syrian and English ancestry. We are of many different races. We have different cultures, music, food, religions etc. We have a two day street parade in which hundreds of thousands of people parade in costumes and dance to soca music and steelpan or steel drum music. The steel pan or steel drum was also invented in Trinidad and Tobago. It is actually our national instrument. So it is a fair and innocent to assume that Olatunji is a Nigerian because of his African name, his African ancestry and because soca music sounds similar to Nigerian music. It sounds similar because some of our ancestors came from the Mother Land, Africa, hundreds of years ago during slavery. Let us celebrate the long journey this genre has made and just enjoy and appreciate this feel-good music of love, peace, joy and good vibes.
You got it right Trinidad is the birthplace of this music along with many other things that have roots elsewhere but originated and evolved in Trinidad.
SOCA is the combination of [SO]UL AND [CA]LYPSO.
And "doubles" is the fusion of Channa & Bara !!
Adrian Angel lmaoooooooooooooooooooooo...good one
Doubles now I cant concentrate.
I'm from Philippines.
My daughter Tobagonian citizen and I been there last 2014 to 2015 in Trinidad and Tobago and some parts of Caribbean island and I really like the place, culture, music and etc...

Excellent work man
one of the most underrated artist this guy is very talented
2024 2024 2024 still here. BIG MUSIC. Mother's life force running through her Diaspora's veins.
Shame that too many of us in the Caribbean countries have completely sold out to colonial mentality of anti-African. No wonder we still borrow from the Chinese and the Indians. When are we going to join our fellow Africans so we can be proud of our African heritage. We don't want to be a slave forever to the system
Allyuh haterz doh fight de song nah..iza big tune by Olatunji for 2015, let him shine and dont be negative

Love the fusion mix brother Ras Shorty AKA lord Shorty (He is the man that fused the African & East Indian rhythm to bring us SOCA) wonderful work well done -see below for a much better description of the origins of SOCA. #bostoncarnivalvillage
Africa and the Caribbean are one! The enslaved brought their African culture to the Caribbean ; the music, styles, food, traditions. It's all DNA! Colonizers tried hard to suppress the culture but clearly it didn't work. Stop the race and culture division please
BIG UPS OLATUNJI!!!! Nigeria, Trinidad, Jamaica ALL THE SAME FAMILY!!!! We love #SOCA #AFROBEATS #HILIFE @DANCEHALL @REGGAE @HIPLIFE @SOUKOUS ALL OF THAT!!!
caribbean music is amazing, I was born in america from guyanesse parents and I could not be any happier of that to know that i have caribbean blood in me may god bless. OUR MUSIC IS 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
we are all Africans! carribean ppl are displaced Africans. without Africa. there would be no us! no musics! nothing. ppl stop arguing and learn your history!
EXACTLY!
"We are all Africa." -Sakira. 😂😂❤
amen am a proud African woman
well thats half right. Caribbean people are displaced PEOPLE. half trinidad is indian and the other half that are african about a quarter are mixed with many other races. cant claim one without the other which is why many of us say we are trini first. as a dougla i am just as much afrian as my mom, as i am indian like my dad. where then was i displaced from? i love both cultures but they are not mines to claim exclusively. i am born a Trini. soca is Trini so i claim that my culture as we know it isnt just african based. maybe this one song but definitely not the entire genre
The Caribbean is a diverse place; made up different races and culture eg Indian and Spanish. Not only african my dear.
Carribean music make us feel alive! Soca is lit man! ❤🙆♂️ . Love from Philippines!
Carribean music makes us feel alive soca is lit man ❤🙆♀️ love from guyana
Ladies and gentlemen, the purpose of the comments section is to say whatever you want regarding the video. You can say good and you can say bad...you have that right to do so. People, please understand this and try not to create a silly battle of words over a song, which is supposed to have the sole purpose of radiating the complete opposite vibe. Individuals are meant to have their own opinion. Individualism is something that some say the West Indies lacks. Don't prove that correct.
Same drama that happened when Bunji's Differentology came out...some hated it, some loved it.....where are the haters now??? Ola love the song...keep doin your ting

the guy is from Trinidad and Tobago he was born and raised there and he is living there .. his parents are from there .. not because his name is african means he from africa .. dunce dotish people ... only caribbean people will understand that he is from the caribbean outsiders please shut your mouth and listen to the song .. no debate should be over this .. soca and calypso was cultivated in trinidad and Tobago .. Lord father send a hand to the fools
Dope song! Soca is love and so is the roots of the music! Having a debate over the origin is point less we all know its Africa! And i dont get who says Trini last i check all the Caribbean islands and Guyana along with African culture uses Soca so please stop spreading negativety spread love! 🙌💃
o.O what are you talking about ? "i dont get who says Trini last i check all the Caribbean islands and Guyana along with African culture uses Soca?" i don't feel this makes sense :/ since when does africa use soca? and you do know soca is a MIXTURE right? o.O Formed out of Calypso Right? o.O

Ola owned this riddim with this track and I agree Ryan, he is one of the most underrated artistes in the business....Keep up the great work Olatunji! I look forward to hearing more great songs from you.
I'm From west Africa and the other side of my family is from Trinidad and I honestly don't see a different between the both of us. Our music is practically the same. So stop the arguing because we're all equal!
true
+Aminta Seye Almost EVERY musical genre from the North/central/south america that gets your hips moving has African origins. Salsa, Bachatta, Merengue, Soca, Reggae, Dancehall. No matter the language differences they all have HEAVY african influences. Anyone who argues that fact are in denial of that fundemental fact.
+lifeisviewtiful so true ☺
+Aminta Seye im from same place as you and i think you right which is why i love soca music :)
whats the original?
From South Africa this guy is the great in perfect combination of love an Talent. From X factor I search if he have release an he's very good. They made mistake to let him go he was very good...
I think he found it, that crossover of soca grove/calypso vibes and still sweet enough to be in the African circuit that spreading across the world. BIG FORWARD on this track. Great job, hope the other upcoming artiste take a page out of your book.
So proud of you my cousin! Miss you😘😘
This song is a hybrid. I'm Trini and I love soca, reggae, and african music. All genre of caribbean music, much like food, have roots in Africa. This connection is all we have left of our heritage, family, and legacy that were stolen from us. Let us embrace this type of music as a glue to help us feel connected to one another. It hurts me when I think of the family I lost and never had a chance to know hundreds of years ago. Who knows, some of us on this thread may even be related.
I'm dancing cz I'm proud to b from st Lucia ola is my nickname ohh la la lay I'm so excited dat I got away from corona virus plandemic COVID-19 I'm ready to fete remember wen soca was vibes 🇱🇨💯❤️🌍

Any Nigeria here .......We rep Olatunji
He's not Nigerian
@@niamramphal1366 think origins!
He's from trinidad and Tobago , his descendents were probably African but that doesn't make him African he was born and brought up in Trinidad he's Trinidadian

Reading all these comments with people fighting back and forth as to the origin of the artist. The problem lies with black people always fighting against each other and tracing our roots shows we are all from the same place. We maybe from a different Island/country and possess different cultures and views but we are all the same. No one is more superior than the other, and we should be celebrating and accepting each other's culture. Just enjoy the song and pass the bullshit already! Get a grip!
You are right
too right!
Yup who are u an adult or kid?
well said Tanisha for Gods sake is music a gift from God, please make good use it instead of nit picking, we have enough of that in gangster rhythm and they are making millions, music is heavenly it doesn't hurt, nough respect
+Tanisha Lyons Bless You sis.. Not everyone are blessed with Wisdom as you are....stay blessed
This song is the best!! Anyone who truly appreciates music and the artists who create and perform these songs, will know that there are no borders, cultures, race or any other differences that defines this music. It's meant for all to enjoy, and anyone who seeks to differentiate it is simply ignorant. :)
Who listing in 2021👌🔥🔥🔥
Come on people this is our own the song may not have all the lyrical that"s is required. But i must say it"s a beautiful and well constructed musical harmony and quite infectious. Well done Ola the key is consistency and just keep loving the culture. In life you may not be able to please everyone but once you are satisfied its what matters. juicy juice!
What's the difference, Trinidadians I consider all as one people. We country is full of diversity just as many Caribbean islands. African, Indian, white, Chinese. We all one people. Cyah believe dis is all over a chune like this 😶
I couldnt say it better myself but the problem I have is when people pretend that race doesnt exist and it has absolutely no role in anything what so ever
My Caribbean people! You guys don't have to distance ya self from Africans, we're family! Most of our ancestors and roots are African ! This isn't for everybody , but it's for the people that think African and Caribbean are 2 different tings cause they're really not.

This is the first time I listened to this song and love it. I will certainly have it as a ringtone. Well done Ola!!
Tunji should be rated big with this one, coz he is so underated... good soca artist!
I reading all these comments and this is what I must say here in America it doesn't matter if he's Trini or anything else he put out some good music. I am Guyanese and all of us love this song and the beat.
Trinidad is the birthplace for this type of music. Like many other things that we have in Trinidad that might have roots elsewhere but originated and evolved in Trinidad
Puerto Rican here I love soca 😍
I'm from Canada and my mom is from Trinidad and I level there for 3 years and I love everything about Trinidad
ailioll
How fun was it level in Trinidad?
LOL that was my auto correct. I wa only 1 when i moved there and left when i was 4
It's awesome to embrace your culture. I'm a Trini to de bone.
This should be a soccer/football chant!
I really love this song🎶🎧
It is just foolish to argue this. Don't you all realize that we were once together walking and talking with each other in Africa before what we call slavery? We had the same culture: music, way of life, dances etc and up to this day some of us African people of the Caribbean cannot realize that we sing the same music with the same sound as the the Africans in Africa do. You can never forget who you are, somewhere in you all lies information ready to be accessed. By this African native realizing similarities in our music shows that even the African natives are realizing that the diaspora still have that connection to home.
Fuck Africa. We have the most resources in the world yet we are the poorest people most uneducated. Most genocide. Africans sold Africans into slavery. Read and observe then talk. The Caribbean people have nothing to do with Africa, don't think like Africans or live like them. The roots you so proudly talk of are non existent. Have you ever seen genocide in the Caribbean? I am a Somalian by the way. I have lived in the Caribbean. I know and have seen both sides of the culture and let me tell you something. Dont talk bullshit you know nothing about
If you cannot construct your sentances in such a way that we can understand fully what you are saying then shut up. Don' t comment at all. By the way what you said was www.google.com/imgres?imgurl=www.borishoppek.de/picture/shit-maker%2525209.jpg%253FpictureId%253D10908668&imgrefurl=www.borishoppek.de/exhibition-and-event-listing/shitmaker-fame-festival-2011/10908668&h=1200&w=800&tbnid=6EylEhRL3AOEFM:&zoom=1&docid=5VlCAtqMA-l_PM&hl=en-US&ei=9NGRVLu5DLiSsQT6qIGoBQ&tbm=isch&client=ms-unknown&ved=0CCQQMygBMAE ( too too) and if you cannot understand this conversation now thats okay maybe when you get older you will understand, have a nice day.
The truth hurts. Your response was that of a typical small minded fool. Why not use words instead of pictures? Probably beyond your feeble mind
Nelson Mandela ??? yuh done start bad!!!
with such a great name and all.
You are a joker, walking and talking to each other? More like fighting wars and being sold for riched. Even in African among different countries and different ethnic groups, the culture is not the same. No, the Caribbean and Africa do not have the same songs nor the same music.
Tunji relllllll bad inno! The man does kill every riddim! I rate him
I love it...we are true to our music it's original, not borrowed or on loan from anywhere else. With that said the beats and instruments can cause anyone to be confused, soca, hip-hop and several other styles of music does incorporate that african influence but this brother is 100% Trinidian. We are very proud of him!
All this race talk under such a beautiful song? Olatunji is a TRINBAGONIAN. I don't know about the rest of you but I first identify myself as a Trini. Everything else (race, "class" etc) are only secondary/unimportant.
Nothing is wrong with identifying with your race, Race is not "unimportant" and Race and Nationality are two completely different things and shouldnt be compared.
Theon Daisley but mentioning it with strong reason when the person knows no facts is wrong
agreed
What de hell is a TRINBAGONIAN? ONE IS EITHER tRINIDADIAN OR TOBAGONIAN, one can't be both. It is one country but two beautiful islands, each island with its own distinctive culture and history.
liz McQueen which galaxy your get your stupidity from -_-
I heard this on the radio maybe a year or two ago here in the US in Virginia and had the hardest time finding it. Love this song.
Lol not on Shazam... Yet! The genre to look for is "Soca". Every year artistes release songs in time for Carnival
Whenever I hear this song... I HAVE to dance because the beat and melody are just so.... amazing..I just cant
I just wanna party with all the Caribbean people, for life
This song will still be hot 30 yrs from now. Good job Olatunji.
Olatunji's style is perfect on the road when your head bad and you're just loving carnival and the freedom it brings!!!..love his compositions over the last 4/5 years...Keep it up!!!

for all who dont know soca is very well apart of Jamaican culture not at first but thanks to Byron Lee it has been for over 30 plus years but before my mom introduced soca and calypso from trinidad barbados and many other places. Just like our cuisine is infused with oriental Indian spanish and african culture ,our musical culture is wide spanding.
I'm not a fan of soca but this is the best
