Your formula can reference any variable (for example, x1 or its assigned name if you choose to name cell x1 as x). When you integrate your formula with QUADF() and pass x1 for the variable of integration, then x1 serves as a dummy variable for the integrand function f(x). x1 current value does not matter in this case.
