Nice. I had the machine shop do a short block rebuild on my 4.0l. They did everything. Hot tank, bored and honed, Oversized pistons, replaced the cam, reground the crank, new timing set, new frost plugs, bearings etc etc. painted the block. $2350.00 CDN Couldn’t do it myself for less after buying the tooling. Well worth it. They even cleaned, flattened my head and painted it for me for $65. Saved me a boat load of time and effort.
JeepSolid yeah...except they didn’t reinstall the sleeve for the pilot bearing. Need to order a new one and figure out how to install it. Can’t seem to locate guidance in my factory shop manual. 🤨
300? I have a 289 v8 and I was told it will cost 1600+ when taking it to the machine shop! We still have to take it out and tear it down? Anyone know why it's so much?
I built my own lathe with the help of a good friend.= A Good thing Unfortunately auto-machine tools are more specialized. Otherwise I would have built my own as well.
Because of watching videos like yours, I had the confidence to pull my transmission and swap from internal to external clutch slave cylinders. We put the transmission back in tonight!
What shop did you go to? I am in the Phoenix area as well as I think you had mentioned! I am pricing out an engine rebuild right now for my Jeep because of watching your videos! Awesome job!
Do you have a break down of the $300? Understanding that prices vary by location. Does that include the rods and cam bearings? I have that same engine apart in my garage right now
Ah, the great debate.. from what I've found, its referred to either way, but I believe gallery is the original reference. Either way, my habit has been to call it galley in some videos. Others gallery.. lol
Wow! Looks great!!!
All those prices you were saying, I had to look at when this video was made yup five years ago. I’m pretty sure them prices are triple that
Yep.. I had to look at the date too. I just got quoted 1050.
Next time you do a build, a video on the process of how you clean the block for paint prep and assembly WOULD BE AWESOME!

Sounds like it was a nice build!. They did a ton for your $2300..

I was quoted $1,500 for the same work. Inflation is killing us.
I wish I could find a GOOD machine shop that does not over charge and does not think poorly of potential courtiers. I will keep looking .
I hope so too!

Way to go Dale.
Thanks!
Cool video!

That's awesome! Glad my video helped you out!
If we can do it, anybody can.
What shop did you go to? I am in the Phoenix area as well as I think you had mentioned! I am pricing out an engine rebuild right now for my Jeep because of watching your videos! Awesome job!
What shop did you go with? I'm in Long Beach, not sure what area of Cali you're in.
where did you have the work done ?
Are they in the Norrh East ?
i cant believe you lifted the block
you got a straight 6 bored/honed/tanked/painted block/cam bearings installed/hung pistons on rods for 300 bucks? highly doubt it mate.
And why would I lie about what I paid?
@@JeepSolid perhaps you don't want your wife knowing what you really paid!
Lol. Lethargic from driving purified water.
Looks great
Thx!
Excellent job. Now that’s what I’m talking about!
Haha.. yeah, it looks great now!
very reasonable prices. can't skimp
Yeah. Some things you just have to do.
Do you have a break down of the $300? Understanding that prices vary by location. Does that include the rods and cam bearings? I have that same engine apart in my garage right now
So much better than we could have done in 100 hours with those brushes and spray. Money well spent.
You've always had an easy time spending my money..
Looks amazing. Definitely money well spent.
Yeah, I think so too.
squeaky clean! nice!
Yes sir!
Shit sounds like you got a great deal... Or is that what you can expect to pay.. First time engine build for me
I'm the same way. This is my first time doing an engine rebuild.
Looking great!
Thanks! Its coming along.
So 309 dollars it cost
Coming along very nice. Going to run very good when your all done . Your hat tossing and landing it has improved . lol Good job !!!
Yeah, thinking it'll run better than my other Jeep, my daily driver right now. Haha!
Great stuff!
Thanks for watching!
cam bearing puller?
Can u take your entire engine to the machine shop?
So all of that, bore, hone, connect piston to rod, cam bearings and cleaned up cost you $300?
BDC ballpark
looks good Dale. :-)
Thanks. Lots better!
What would you estimate the total cost was to rebuild this engine?
So far... it looks like it is going to be about a $1000 job. Parts, fluids, machine costs..
Cost me $2450 Canadian to have the short block professionally rebuild...just for comparison
I’m thinking the $300 was well worth it!! How much are the pistons and rods if you had to purchase them?
Piston and ring set for the 6cyl is $177. Rods are $50 range
$300 isn't bad at all for all you got done to that block...
Yeah. I'm happy with how it turned out.
Now you just need a 4.2L crankshaft.....lol....
Haha! Yeah, maybe next build will be stoker..
I have done cam bearings before lol. 40 bucks was worth it I would say
Yeah.. being that I only had 1 set, it was probably the best route. Haha
sweetie, its not an oil gallery......its an oil galley . im sure you can still put that back together though
Ah, the great debate.. from what I've found, its referred to either way, but I believe gallery is the original reference. Either way, my habit has been to call it galley in some videos. Others gallery.. lol
Hey sending a comment from Minnesota! I love your channel and was wondering if I could get a sticker or something for my jeep. 1988 wrangler (yj)
Thank you. Sure thing. I sell them for $5. Just email me at dale@jeepsolid.com if you'd like one.
