There are few times in my time playing that I remember seeing an ability and thinking "oh damn, that was crazy" but fuck me I'll never forget being smacked in the mouth with a 14 Million damage Lights Wrath during a Warsong Gulch RBG. That shit had me staring in disbelief for a while
Touch of Death "Inflict mortal damage on an enemy, causing the target to take damage equal to 35% of your maximum health after 8 sec, reduced against players. During the 8 sec duration, 99% of all other damage you deal to the target will be added to the final strands of hair that Asmongold has"."
I miss Legion. I feel like it had the perfect amount of complexity to it while still keeping the qctual rotations and ampunt of abilities a person had to use all the time at a reasonable amount. Trying to keep up and work out whats going on in Retail now is impossible.
i remember when i saw aluneth's hidden ability, drain arcane power around you to empower your staff, was a nice touch, too bad we had to give up our artifacts.
Right now, after last BfA patch, I'd add frost mage's Glacial Spike (from last BfA patch) to the list, which was able to do about 450% - 500% of average player HP (some mages did 2,5 mil. dmg with this one)
Okay, so while not as insane as what's mentioned here, feral druids in early Mists of Pandaria were quite insane. Bear Hug dealing 30% of the druid's max health as damage and stunning for 3 seconds, along with the other bleeds that you'd likely have applied before that almost guaranteed a kill on any squishy target who didn't have a healer. So it's a combo rather than a single ability. Although feral druids were hardly the only ones who were able to do such a thing.
One time in Legion on Mythic Antoran High Command as Arms Warrior when all the adds came out I popped warbreaker which applied the colossus smash debuff to everything around me and with avatar and battle cry I had one execute that hit 3 of them due to sweeping strikes and they all crit, I’ll never forget seeing 3 13 million damage execute crits popping up. 1 button click and I did 39 million damage. I believe at that time there was also a class feature where MS buffed your next execute so that could have been how it got so high, my CDs all came up when the adds were low and previous MSs prepped this monster execute.
A few years ago, i was the healer for some really really high ranked guys. See, i mostly just do fps stuff so my naming here is horrid. But, i was healing as per se. Stuff went south for me, but my 2 teammates was alive and it came down to a warrior using an ability that have a 100% kill on use ability when you are below a certain % of HP. BUT! The really good dude of the 2 players used some ability i cannot even begin to name, and it's extremely hard to time but he used it. This usage acturally reflects the damage back to the user. So i am just watching these 2 guys clutch AS they badically had lost but the attacker insta died?.... I am typing this because i got no idea of what class it was, nor the spell or ability. But i do remember that this move enforced a death and only a palladin might survive with the omnipotent bubble they got for all i know. To me, that take the top spot. A super hard buggy break of the game that hit your hp quantity, hard coded into the game. It's probably patched, or too hard to do. But it's likely a 1:1 hit if the target's hp. So it's at infinite %. Before anyone call bs, first find the ability ay least. I think it was 2016 ish? 🤔
I remember seeing a fire mage do 75% of the total damage on a council of elders pull in throne of thunder. Combustion was insane on multiple boss fights
Of course, as of Shadowlands they would have to add warrior spell reflect, which worked for a few weeks on bosses. So mythic level bosses could have their 1 shot kill spells reflected back at them.
I friggin love vengeance and MOP in general. As a tank DK, I used to solo my August Celestial boxes. Always funny watching people think I was suiciding just to get the boss below half health before they'd join in.
*Complex combo is shown* >"This is so complicated what the hell come on man that's too much." *Ability gets nerfed to be simple* >"Booooring fucking blizzard." *Broken ability gets balanced* >"Fun detected ahah can't have that" (whilst the entire list is basically abilities from the same expansion, irony) I firmly believe at this point nothing Blizzard does again will ever please players. People just bitch and bitch about everything. They want to hate the game.
Combustion of WoD was WAY more powerful due to double inferno strike trick + prismatic crystal... Good I miss this. I used to absolutely decimate arcanes back in the day.
A lot of calculations work off of % scaling anyway. So when you see a 4k versus a 40 million number in different expansions and the same ability, it's mostly just visual, it does the same % of damage (of whatever budget reference they use) barring balance adjustments. I think once you realize that, it's easier to not freak out about the number inflation, but it's still silly.
combustion was fun in cata, expecially when you had comb off cd, hot streak proc, and impact proc, in a aoe pull when that happened i hit upwards of 90k dps while others are sitting around 25-30k. fire mage is either weak af or overpowered when everything lines up and you have the fire triangle(impact proc, hot streak proc, and combustion)
In MoP raiding fury. Warrior execute would prock with talent and enrage, and with temerity I remember hitting 4-7 million every 2 seconds when the boss was below 30%
its actually not true though that it was the only time when players where able to somewhat oneshot raidbosses of the current tier - I remember back in throne of thunder there was a live fix for monks that broke them. and for about 4 hours monks had a bug where they could kill raid bosses with sweeping winds (I think) to somewhat 2-3 hit current tier raidbosses. that even got abused in that short time frame and caused a couple bans ;)
"First and only time a player was able to one shot a raid boss from that current expansion" Not actuaaaally true. Blizzard had a brief period during Catacylsm where Paladins AoE seal (Seal of Command? It's been awhile) would incorrectly proc off of its AoE damage infinitely. I was able to use this to 1 shot Yor'sahj the Unsleeping in Dragon Souls by pulling the boss with all the slime mobs around him. After about 30-60 seconds of massive server lag, the boss and all the slimes would then fall over dead. I only did it the once and I didn't loot anything because I was spooked about getting in trouble.
i remember they added swipe aoe for feral druid in wrath. it would hit everything in front 180 degrees. big trash pull in icc, bunch of skels, i hit just over 30k dps. at level 80. was nerfed quickly.
30k dps on AoE trash isn't impressive though. People with average gear would do 10-12 dps on boss fights in ICC. And if you had endgame gear, hunters, mages, aff locks, ret palas, could do 27-28k dps on bossfights (without specific boss fight empowerings)
@@SuperIrbo single target boss damage at that time was around 12k with 25 man i level 264 gear. thats what i was in when i hit the 30k aoe. i never saw anyone at level 80 do 28k single target damage.

What about the shaman that crit 25k in vanilla?
thats nothing compared to the Reckoning Bomb
TIL, Legion was Fun
Most of these were legion and up which I stopped playing cata so these don’t mean shit to me
Whenever i see legion Pepehands comment i just cringe. It was a fucking bad expansion like the rest after wotlk... Like asmon said before, you only think legion was good because it came after WOD, so it felt sort of lika a " relief ".
This is why Legion was utter garbage
Tips is clown!
WoW never did the Monk well.
Depends on what you play, if you are into pvp monk has been op for several expensions, including mop and bfa.
MoP monk was an absolute blast. All 3 specs of it
hahha! Asmon.. your reactions are epic man haha!
hello there
The game stopped being complex in Cata, then they replaced complexity with bloat
No single ability has done more damage than frostbolt
