Jak 2, to me, is a misunderstood sequel that doesn't deserve to be forgotten about. It gets everything right while trying to cram so many things on it's plate but still works... when you're not pulling your hair out in the slums ambush.

Yes! I think the gunplay in Jak II is actually very unique and intuitive. It's great when you've mastered all the combos and can just pull off sick moves and kills. I kinda miss that

I wanted to love jak 2, i really did. Engaging story & setting, but the lack of polish statement regarding gameplay is a million percent true and one of the lead devs have admitted to this themselves.
As you mentioned, vehicle controls needs work. Handling is just poor here.
The city being BOTH crowded and packed with narrow spaces makes missions in it more frustrating then it needs to be. This also adds to the tedium of constantly going through it to access other missions.
The time limited missions are sometimes entirely TOO tight with it timings. Hell in the hover board mission you show, 2 of those drop off points are relatively hidden. So that just leads to unnecessary trial and error as you figure out the pathing.
The lack of checkpoints is just artificial FLUFF at certain points. For example, going through the trials of manhood. There's a series of puzzles you have to solve. You can absolutely die here trying to figure them out and dying makes you go through the previous puzzle you already solved again. That's not adding any sort of difficulty, it's just a literal waste of time.
There's nothing wrong with a challenging game, but it needs to be challenging for the right reasons and Jak 2 DOES NOT fall in that category.
I finished it again yesterday, it is such a cool game! I have to replay the trilogy from time to time xD Can't wait for your Jak 3 video!

My Girlfriend has played through the Jak Trilogy for the laat couple of weeks. She liked the first one the most.
But I am and will always be a Jak 2 consenteur. Best thing is slamming the crimson polices big tanks with huge dark jak and them dying and spinning on their record player
Lol rampaging as dark jak is the best! Jak 1 is great but there’s something to be said about the freedom of 2 that makes it my fav.
@@vegas.mp3 yes indeed i spent many hours on the highway as infinite huge dark jak.
However you could argue jak1 gave you the most freedom as there was always alot of powercells to collect in different areas as opposed to having the choice of usually 2 missions like in jak 2 and 3. This was what my girlfriend told me. She thinks she's so smart sometimes yeesh

I think Jak 2 is an...interesting experience but after beating it for the first time in 2019 (Jak 1 & 3 were the games I owned instead of rented like Jak 2 and I didn't get that far whenever I'd play it) I would never think to ever replay it again as its pacing, general structure, padding/bloat, mildly irritating to boring missions aren't worth going through again for some fun missions here and there (also the jetboard). The story is admittedly overall well executed though considering the major shift in tone but I always thought a game like sly 2 handled that much better by comparison.
Also the statements at 5:55 and 9:30 contradict each other so much unless you meant for the former you just didn't play a GTA game(s) when you were younger.
Everyone has the right to be wrong lol, in all seriousness I see where you’re coming from it’s just a matter of what games you grew up playing. Also Ive played gta 4 and 5 but not 3 that’s what I meant at 5:55. I was thinking about getting the new remastered trilogy but apparently they suck so I dunno.

Great video!! Jak 2 was definitely my favorite of the series back then, even though I loved the other games. I liked jumping to the edgy-ness of Jak 2 as an angry 10 year old lol
Funny enough. I actually played the games somewhat in reverse lol. Back in the day there was a bundle for the PS2 slim and Jak 3 and I ended up getting it for christmas the year it came out. Sadly I didn't get to play the first two for like three years after that lol. But even starting with 3 I was hooked until the end of time.

Dont even undersand how it is compared to GTA, just because it has cars police force and open world? but thats where the similaritys end tbh. other than that Was a great video, hopefully you have other based takes in the future.

Ok so I’ve heard it so many times and seen it too much I played this in elementary and I only had struggles on 2 levels with the defense missions the rest only took 2 no more than 3 attempts and my siblings were on the same pace with similar problems. I thought it was normal that it was more like medium difficulty. I don’t know how to feel that this isn’t what I hear all the time and just hear it’s hard. Idk if there is a quiet minority or something but I have to know how many didn’t struggle with the game as bad as the loud percentage.
Anyone who played this game as a kid and said it was easy is lying lol
