When I saw Goo Goo Dolls in the thumbnail graphic, I thought you would do "Name." I always tell that the Goo Goo Dolls got me laid and ultimately married. When my wife and I started dating, I found out that "Name" was her favorite songs, so I learned to play it for her birthday, and she melted. We've been together for 17 years, married for 8, and parents for 4.
How about "Legendary licks that you can't play (Because you dont have the epic beard of the original player)"
ZZ Top has to be on there since Billy Gibbons has one of the best beards ever
Legendary licks you can’t play (because you don’t know how to play pinch harmonics) billy gibbons joke, get it.
Liliana Brost Yup, you could add Zakk Wylde since he also uses pinch harmonics like no tomorrow
Gibbons???wylde???....petrucci??????
Beard tone is quite essential indeed.

I was inspired by this video to create my own tuning, I call it open B(B,F#,B,F#,B,B) on a 6 string guitar and it sound angelic but haunting. It is basically like super drop D at about 25:49 but lower. Edit: if you tune the high E string to d# in this tuning it also sounds amazing!
Thanks man. I tried it and it's really fun.

You're around the wrong players if this is rare for you to see. I couldn't imagine not being excited by just playing in general.
Legendary Licks you can’t play (because you need a capo)
So youre the one that plays smells like teen spirit with a capo
The Smiths be like
That would overlap with alternate tunings, as capoes are typically although by no means always used with alternate tunings. It would still be interesting though. If it be a capo in standard tuning then one could simply use a pitch shifter, although that would be more expensive than buying a capo I imagine.
Legendary Licks you can`t play, because you`re in guitar center.

Isn't Nashville tuning just a 12 string set without the low strings?
Yeah, they even make Nashville sets so you don't have to waste half the set.
Yep, D'Addario makes them...got a set right now..."High Strung/Nashville Tuning" .010 - .027...EJ38H
Was just looking into it.. Gilmour did use a high e on the bass string instead of what you'd normally use for nashville tuning
Buddy, you have a great sense of humor, you’re funny as hell, at the same time very informative. Thanks!
I don't listen to much metal but you freaking slayed that Steve Vai riff, loved it. Shades of Van Halen in that vibrato too
Legendary Licks You Think Are In Alternate Tunings (But Aren’t)
Sylosis would take a lot of these.
Angie - The Rolling Stones
Pretty much any Jeff Buckley song, except the ones that ARE in alternate tunning😁
I would not say I could tell a lick was in an alternate tuning if it was. ‘Hejira’ is probably my favorite album of all time, and the amazing flowing atmosphere may be due to the alternate tunings (though I see this more with ‘Mind Riot’ which I do not dislike despite generally hating grunge) but I have never looked at how this relates to the tuning.
My favorite alternative tuning is the "Rain Song" tuning used in....well, the Rain Song by Led Zeppelin
Its like an open d sus chord live and a whole step down in the studio one of my favs too
DGCGCD is a fun tuning to play in!
Was looking out for this and the tuning used for Black Mountain Side
Legendary licks you can't play(because you don't have the right effects)
He already did this, Legendary licks you think are hard because they're expensive

It's different
The expensive one is more about guitars and amps
My suggestion is more about the actual effects like a specific sort of wah-wah,or a flanger or octaver...

Legendary Lick you can play because they are royalty free
2:26 that looks so strange hearing those pitches on those strings. It almost looks like an out-of-sync edit or an edit that plays the wrong clip with the music.
Holy mackrel! I never knew I needed to hear that Steve Vai song again until now. Good gravy that is a fun tune. Hats off for all the great content. 🤘🤠
Just a beautiful tuning I suspect you've come across but I think is worth sharing is the tuning Opeth uses on the majority of the "Ghost Reveries" record. It's tuned to DADFAE on all songs but "Baying of the Hounds" and "Hours of Wealth", and can give some beautiful chords
Imma take my guitar and tune it GGGBBB and call it the Bee Gee's tuning...
:)
yes indeed open D tuning just about 90% of the stuff Barry Gibb wrote is in open D..
staying alive Night fever even the britpop kind of stuff because when they were youngsters friend of the Gibbs father showed them how to tune a guitar when Barry received one.. problem was he only knew how to tune it in open D and all through Barry Gibbs career just about every song is written in open D
Or:
e-E-G-E-E-B
I tuned my electric guitar to EADGBE using entirely E strings (10 gauge) and it was absolutely fine - just a bit difficult to bend the G. I made it up because my guitar strings always came with an extra high E that I wasn't using.

Legendary Licks you can't play because you need a 7, 8, or even more numerically stringed guitar. So pretty much every Animals as Leaders, Dream Theater, etc. song. haha
Legendary licks you need 4 hands for ( beacause they're played on two guitars )
As a more general question, have you looked at Tremonti’s guitar composition in Creed? Despite strong feelings about the vocals, Tremonti was using awesome tunings (including the DADADD tuning) already back in songs like My Sacrifice and Are You Ready.
One you missed; Flying In A Blue Dream. It is actually in an open G tuning then dropped a few steps. There is a video of Joe demonstrating it somewhere.
When he said it was in Drop C I already knew it was bad horsie 😂
Nashville tuning, also called high strung tuning is easy to achieve by using the octave strings for the low E, A D and G from a 12 string set of strings. This tuning is also used to mimic a 12 string if you don't have one. You play a standard 6 string and then layer a Nashville strung guitar over it. Many songs actually use a 12 string with a Nashville layered with it. Lots of Stones and Petty songs feature this.
Nashville tuning is typically used in conjunction with a standard tuned guitar. You pan the standard hard to one side and the Nashville hard to the opposite and then play the same parts. It sounds like a 12 string but much larger/wider apart.
i think you should do a part two. There are a lot of cool songs in different tunings. My suggestions: anything from Ghost (Cirice is a really good choice), they're all in D standard, and Searching with my Good Eye Closed by Soundgarden. It's tuned to all Es. Then there's Cinnamon Girl by Neil Young. Both high and low E strings are dropped to D.
Tyler: "Don't worry, we're not gonna use that 7th string."
Also Tyler: *uses the 7th string*
Thank you for this!
The Nashville tuning is basically a twelve string with the 6 regular strings removed , so if you want string guages that dont break use the thin guages doubling and octave strings ...the tuning is used to fatten up rhythm and fingerpicking parts.
The rain song by Led Zeppelin is my favourite with an alternate tuning
Oh I thought you were gonna say because I suck. At least now I have a good excuse 😂😂😂😂

Wow I had no idea Iris was in that tuning. When I saw goo goo dolls in the thumbnail I thought you were gonna play Name. Really cool tuning and beautiful sound in that song. You should do it in another video!
I was thinking the exact same thing. I love singing the song but I've never tried to play it so that explains so much
The Day I Tried to Live by Soundgarden is in a really weird tuning. It's tuned E-E-B-B-B-B.
Are all those B's in the same octave?
@@davidmatheny1993 I believe that om the first and second string they are an octave above.

Legendary licks no one play (but they should)
Love the SRV shirt, he played in all sorts of tuning variations. Especially when he played live.
One of the reasons I watch your videos is because you're a fellow PRS player and Tremonti fan. Mark Tremonti used that DADADD tuning in one other great song "weathered" by Creed. He can really make use of that tuning.
Play solos that use the whammy bar, WITHOUT using the whammy bar.

I was able to buy a string set specifically for Nashville tuning from a local guitar shop near me (Gryphon Stringed Instruments in Palo Alto, California). I was also told that if you take a string set for a 12-string guitar and just use the higher-pitched string from each pair, you get the same result.

For nashville tuning the bottom E String has to be the same gauge as the High E String, the A String has to be a 12 String Guitar Octave A String, the D String is a 12 String Guitar High D, and the G String is a 12 String Guitar High G, and the B and High E Strings are normal.
What abbout the 6th string being a 12 string octave E? Is that just high strung tuning?
