Wow! Many times I remember travelling beside that line when I was still counting the years in single digits. Bonus for a little fella if we chanced to spot the train. The Sunday drive from the outer western suburbs (I'm talking a zillion vacant blocks a handful of K's west of Parramatta) would have been waaay more relaxing than making the same journey today. I note that Kombi in the clip, who would have parked up, sweating on the train's arrival, just for the thrill of beating something, anything, up the incline...😀
I grew up in Revesby and it was a day trip to go to Camden. It used to feature in the NRMA booklet "100 miles around Sydney" In the seventies I bought an industrial shed at Narellan and it was easy t track where ete permanent way was located.
No, not gone forever. Trouble is, governments got debt. It's what your taxes pay for. Why do you think government needs your taxes?. To pay the interest. See Debt Clock.
Typical of a short sighted government. They closed the Camden and Ropes Creek lines and now we have a population explosion with no public transport to service these two areas!
@@stephenarbon2227 That was for the _"via crucis"_ religious specials from Sydney that went to Currans Hill. I'm not sure how the regular Camden services got on at those times...
I recall Camden station still being there, but last I looked (over 15 years ago) it had been eliminated. The platform at Narellan was still in existence too, but no doubt that has long gone. There are/were other remnants if you know where to look...
The narrator said the immortal words" It's just not economical". Proving once again, NSWGR could not imagine poipulation growth, nor the expenses of (increasing) road traffic. Just probably assessed it by "revenue from passenger tickets" against what - the depreciated costs of old engines plus line maintenance ?

Now the road that replaced it is a car congested gridlocked nightmare. Progress!

At least there are no such things as "toll roads" that charge people a usurious tax, for the privilege of not having public transport, are there?
That 1in 19 grade must have been very challenging to locomotive crews.
There are photos of the train at Easter, using 3 engines.

Wow never knew Camden had a train. Been recently to Camden and never saw any thing left of the station unless I missed it.
Theres a station done the street from maccas....well....used to be.
We used to collect the coal that fell off the coal bunker onto the track.
Did you save it? Theyd be turned to diamonds by now right?
What if someone makes another rail link to Camden back to Campbelltown
The platforms are around if u know where to look.

where can you find them?
You don't see railways and roads so close side by side like that anymore

One village to Another. Nothing like it is now
I read the Kurrajong line was like that.
it used to be a very rural area once.
and a nice area
That area is now changed beyond belief.
Now they need it back again.
