Wow, nice footage. Never been to Australia, didn't realize there was so much steam operation into mid-1960s. Here in US, steam was basically done everywhere by late 1950s.
Thanks for posting this great collection of what were then everyday scenes. I only wish (like everyone else) that I'd carried a camera when walking through Central weekdays during the 1960s.
Captures a great transformation in our railways. We see shunting steam locos, shunting diesel locos, various hauling steam locos, the two car diesel sets, stainless electric and a couple of 46 hauling probably to Gosford or Blue Mountains. The first shot at Redfern looks like the then air conditioned Newcastle Flyer with the usual 38 up front.
Thank you so much for sharing these videos. I had no idea there were so many 32's in and out of central. The 53 was a surprise too. Were the yard shunter 30 tanks just with no headlights or did they have no electric lighting at all?
Yes, many 32 class in those days. I remember them running light into there in pairs and even threes. The 30 class without headlights often had no electric lighting but I think some had electric markers only.
Thanks for the memories I worked many shifts in Sydney yard on the steam.
Wow, when looking at today's culture, it is nothing compared to what was shown in the film clip. Thanks for sharing. I loved it.

Thanks for your comments. The 38 is actually hauling the "Southern Highlands Express" , No.19, to Goulburn.
Interesting to see the yard back in the day. I work there now. You can still see remnants of the past.
Fantastic shots of the past.
Excellent thank you for sharing
This brings back some memories

Compared to back then, the railways today are
pretty bland.
