This is so innovative! I loved that line-work detail when watching the film. Stuff like this is what keeps the inspiration of 3D animation alive. So creative and interesting.

The outlines look like painteffects from Maya. You can also create and rig such effects using splines. I would be interested to know if this was programmed similarly for the film, or perhaps even based on paint effects from Maya.

That's amazing. I never thought about doing the line work as 3D geometry. One thing I have come to learn is, when these guys say "It was incredibly difficult" they really mean it. Or the number of things having to be rigged was "Phenomenal" they really mean it.

This is something I should have embraced before I graduated college. I remember filming my thesis film, of which is present in a conlang I made, and I was insistent in my actor (a good friend of mine now) getting his lines as perfect as possible. It was on set I actually realized that, being a white man reading a language based on Asian and Polynesian languages, he is actually NOT SUPPOSED TO SOUND PERFECT BECAUSE IT WAS A FOREIGN LANGUAGE TO THE CHARACTER.
Later, I saw a glitch video done by a classmate of mine at the senior show and the messy video actually looked very very beautiful in its own way.
If these two experiences, including watching this video of this visually stunning and extremely entertaining film, have taught me anything, it is to EMBRACE IMPERFECTION. Being completely perfect is actually overrated, because being too perfect could actually drive people away. The Uncanny valley of computer character design, anyone?
