Doesn't ANYONE have this show from start to finish? Or at least the entire 50's years? These old soap operas need to either be put out on dvd or streaming somewhere! I want to see this show so badly!
The little old lady who used to watch us during the day while my mom was at worked never missed Edge of Night. This was in the late 60s. I remember hiding behind the chair where she sat watching it. It was so scary. I loved it!
Remember the Edge of Night, and John Larkin, great actor. Great soap. This episode was no doubt broadcast live, and this kinescope was for rebroadcast in another time zone, or to distribute to stations not yet on the live feed. Very, very few recordings of soaps and daytime game shows from the 1950s still exist.
Binge watched 15 seasons of dark shadows and was jus as scared at age 60 as when I was a kid watching w my Grama..I went back to finish the seasons n could no longer get it...not sure how many seasons tht ran but 15 was quite a chunk.
It was definitely the darkest of the not supernatural soap operas back in the late 60s / early 70s. I didn't watch it religiously, but I liked that it had that edge (pun intended 😂)
Agreed Setebos....I'm on my second time around binge watching the seasons...I need to find out if there was any seasons after #15.. I was in the middle of season 15 n bam it was gone..lol
One of the commercials is for the "new" Proctor and Gamble product Mr. Clean. It was introduced in 1958, so this would probably be from that year or 1959.
The announcer for the Mr. Clean commercial sounds like NBC announcer Bill Wolff, who would some years later gain soap opera immortality inviting us to "stay tuned for the continuing story of....Another World." !
When I was a kid I used to run home from school to watch THE EDGE OF NIGHT. I was fascinated by the show's early opening with the dark 'edge' moving across the screen. I get a kick out of seeing JOHN LARKIN on episodes of PERRY MASON after he left EON - in one episode he was the murderer!
As a little kid in the early '60s I was perplexed to see the somewhat threatening opening of "The Edge of Night", which seemed to imply a scary movie or a similar thing. But like "The Secret Storm", which also had an intriguing title and opening credits, the only thing that ever happened was people standing around in living rooms, talking. I didn't "get" soap operas.
The references to John Larkin on PERRY MASON...remember that Larkin pretty much was playing Mason. THE EDGE OF NIGHT was basically the TV adaptation of the PERRY MASON radio serial, but Earl Stanley Gardner took the rights to the name back (he didn't want his character to have a love interest)
Mmmmmm my favorite! Pillsbury instant mash potatoes! How i still crave them, after all the years! Boy, they sure don't make mash potatoes the way they use too! 🤥🤭
For Paul Seaqraves: You can see Teresa Vetter (Rebecca Sand) in a 1961 EON episode in the movie "Driving Miss Daisy". It's the scene where Idella (Esther Rolle) is watching her favorite soap, The Edge of Night!
Have you ever gone to the Paley Center in New York...in their archives they have several 60s era episodes of Edge Of Night including a Christmas one with Martha Marceau visiting Phoebe Smith at the hospital... these episodes can only be see there...i dont travel so i never seen them...i wish they were on youtube for the rest of us to see but that most likely will never happen.
+The Edge of Night Man if you google the Paley site...you can search the episodes they have...a few have synopsis...this proves there are a few episodes out there we thought were lost but are out there...maybe not all survived but some are better than none at all.
Washing a dog in Mr. Clean? Are these people serious? Also makes a good mouthwash too, I suppose. We can rest easy knowing that dogs love it. Also good for washing down popcorn. I've heard cats love it too.
This was a 1960 episode when Winston's secretary, Ruth Hakim had stolen plans for a motor that was to be built by Grimsley Labs. Ruth was trying to seduce Jack Lane and was murdered by a hulking crrok named Dubek who scaled the walls of her apartment and strangled her. Jack was tried for the murder and exonerated. Dubek got in a fight with Mike Karr and fell out of an airplane.

Want it back on TV. Commercials are great! I want Gleem and also those pancakes.

My mother also watched it which was in the late 60's or early 70's.
Grandma watched this show every weekday afternoon. It was our favorite. It had a darker, more crime oriented theme than the other soaps.
My grandmother used to watch "Edge of Night." Wish more episodes were extant.

This is such a good show. I'm hooked.
Until "Dark Shadows" came along, I thought this was the creepiest opening to a soap opera ever.
I can see where it would freak me out if I were around back then. I wasn't born until 1967.

Cool find! Thanks for sharing all your EON stuff :)
I love her little fur wrap!
I wish there were more episodes !

I get a kick out of seeing JOHN LARKIN on those old b/w episodes of 'Perry Mason'. He left EON in 1961 to go work on the West coast.

Me too. I was about three in 1955 and the diagonal split from day and night fascinated me.
For the person who asked how long agent night lasted
It lasted until the end of 1984

hebneh A. Special and unique soap. Teel. O
I would run out of the room when the opening appeared.
Yep, my grandmother would always put me down for a nap when this soap came on. The opening scared the crap out of me!!!

Very Interesting. Alot of History there
The theme song sent me out the door to go play...Cowboys and Indians...back in the 50s!

Wow, Mike Carr a character out of my childhood as my mother watched this soap
Love that cycletron.
I remember this. The commercials were a lot different then.

Is that ep available to watch here?

P.G. Wodehouse's favorite soap (at least when it was written by Henry Slesar).
and Tallulah Bankhead's.
Ohh my! Now I’m hooked... where’s the next episode?!! 😱
I know right HOW CAN THEY LEAVE US ON A CLIFFHANGER
with things on hold due to the virus. Why don't the networks rerun all of these classics in their entirety until things are back to normal.
Thanks for the upload..I love the commercials XD Brush you teeth After Evey meal ?? Xd.
Wow do they still make Gleem? I kind of remember it.
Gleem was discontinued in 2014. Procter & Gamble now markets the Gleem formulation under the brand name Crest Fresh and White, according to WIKI.

How long did this soap opera last?
"Edge" ran on CBS and ABC from 1956 to 1984. The series moved to ABC in the mid-70s.
She reminds me of Nellie Cross from Peyton Place.
The comment section is to funny
I need some of them knock-out pills
Did that toothpaste really work that well, or was that just hype?
Given the history of advertising, I'm gonna assume it was just hype.
Jack Lalane?
Jack Lane-played by Don Hastings!
@@KJTV67 aka Dr. Bob on AS THE WORLD TURNS.
@@Soapking1965 That's the one-the very same!
