Very informative and fun. I looked into buying a nuke hive but then looked up on how to build a swarm “trap” and hung it facing south western during our swarm season (which is coming soon up here in Pittsburgh) Bait it with a cotton ball in a ziplock with a couple drops of lemongrass essential oil...and it actually started attracting honeybees! It’s great to have them around just for pollination alone if nothing else. ZZ Top puts on a good concert😃🌈🤙
Nice score on the bees ! Yes put the other frames back in the box, better yet leave the frames in the box and then brush the bees into the box. One other thing, put the box on the ground so the other bees can march into the box.
Chuck, this reminds me of Mutual of Omaha's Wild Kingdom. You are Marlin Perkins, and when things get dangerous you send in Jim (aka Sandra). I love the videos. Keep them coming!
Could be multiple queens in that swarm. There was one up by me last year, i messaged about it but somebody was on the way to get them, they messaged me back that evening and ask if i could come get the rest because there was still a lot of bees, went back and i found 4 different queens, so i messaged the person that got the bulk of them and he saif he found 5 queens.
My ground is so rocky and hard. I use the premier fence but have a heck of a time putting it in at some places. I never thought of using a long bit like that. I am definitely going to give that a try. The swarm is an awesome blessing.
Free honey, and more pollinators for the gardens
Win. Win. 👍
Big time win!
Congratulations on that swarm. I've lost 2 this week. Straight up 40 ft in a pine.
Aw man! That stinks. Be on the look out. I'm sure there are some out there to be caught.

Yeah. Lemongrass works great. I've used swarm lure and had better luck with just plain lemongrass. Good luck on catching one!
Great video! It was really interesting watching the bees.
Glad you enjoyed it!

Thanks for the tips!
Something you’d cough up. 😂 LOL 10:15
I couldn’t say “booger” on camera. 🤣🤣
I was going to make the same comment! You made me laugh Chuck!!
Do you guys suit up mowing / driving the tractor around the bee boxes ?
Good catch!
Thanks!
Get you some queen clips makes this a lot easier
I think there is a pair in our toolbag. Should have had them on me.
Next time, lay a sheet on the ground before you shake. Another thing is that large swarms often have more than 1 queen in them.
Good tip. Thanks!
My Dad said to put down a white bed sheet on the ground and set the hive box on it.
A swarm that size usually has more then 1 queen if you can catch each one you can turn that swarm into 2 or 3 depending on number of queens you find
Good point. We'll dig in and recheck them.
How do you mow around the hives ? Do you suit up ?
Nah. We just drive fast!
@@SheratonParkFarms Early morning with a scythe is great and you would be surprised at how fast it is and it's quite too.
Honeybees are surprisingly docile! The ground yellowjackets are something to be feared!
@@SheratonParkFarms you make your better half do it don’t ya
Saundra can do it all!
Yes she can!

Holy moly!! Bummed I missed out on this adventure - but sounds like we might be checking into our own hive 😳👍🏼👍🏼
You should! You'd love keeping bees.
@@SheratonParkFarms I’ll have to come observe yours for a season I think - the watching of youtubes is overwhelming 🤪
Lord dont make her mad Chuck!
I keep my distance if she is mad for sure.

Or you can use a big nail/tent stake if you don’t have a cordless drill. Thanks for watching
I really enjoyed the video I would love some bees but just one sting could put me in the grave I must say your wife is a special lady.
Glad you enjoyed it. Yeah, make sure you steer clear if you are allergic.
Sondra is so talented and I love that your pooch rides the tractor with you. -KJ.
Yes she is. Buck is all about "the ride"! 😆
That was an awesome experience! We will have bees before I know it 🤣
Ya'll should! You'll love keeping bees.
😎👍
Thanks
