Wow seems the locomotive hasn't lost any tractive effort in fact it seems to halve gotten more powerful after being converted to oil I didn't hear any wheelslip.
I thought for sure #489 would still wear the ATSF 6 chime, but it does sound interesting with this 5 chime installed. At least it’s not a plain hooter…
It’s a D&RGW 5 chime with a hell of a lot of character and quirks to make it sound totally different. Don’t know exactly what makes it sound so different but I think it’s cool sounding
Cumbres and Toltec narrow gauge engines are also my favorite locomotives and I love their beautiful whistles.
nice
Wonderfully done Jack! Glad to be able to have joined your for *some* of the video!
Thanks Joe! Had a great time with you and this lovely engine.

They did have it on at the end of last year's season. I guess they wanted some change since it's been on that thing for essentially a decade.
They put a D&RGW hooter on 488 so 488s 5 chime didn’t really have anywhere to go, so they put it on 489.
@@basictransportenthusiast4386 They slapped the 5 on 489 before 488 got the hooter. I assume they removed it sometime in the winter season.
Sounds like 482’s 5 chime whistle on 489.
nope
@@TrainChamber Then it must be really a D&RGW 5 Chime
@@TrainChamber And what happened to the AT&SF 6 Chime
@@brianfalzon6739 It's an unidentified 5 chime. 488 used to use it a lot.
