I really needed this. I've been struggling with math classes but barley passing and I keep leaving math class pissed cause I don't understand some of it. But this was what I needed to hear,I'll keep pushing forward and doing my best I really appreciate this video please keep up the good work 😊
Kudos to you for pressing forward with math! With CS; you're studying computational theory (i.e., applied math), logic/reasoning, and problem solving...just FYI.
Keep this in mind: if you are barely passing the first math classes, you are doing fine. Usually those are the ones that are designed to be hard to force a good portion of the students quit. Higher level math courses (like algorithmic theory) do build on these earlier ones (like graph theory), but they are not actually harder. That said, math is important and as with all important things, if you struggle with it, you have to put in more effort. Best luck to your studies! (I just realized that I'm 5 months late :) take it as some new motivation then!)
I really needed to see this. I failed my first cs course (CS1A procedural programming).I was doing well on labs and quizzes, however when I took q midterm exam I bombed it. I felt so down, but I won't give up. I re-enrolled into cs1a after contemplating dropping out of college. To anyone reading this. You're capable, you're in the right place, and you can do this. God bless
Bruuuuuh. I withdrew from a Intro CompSci course TWICE!!!!! This video was so relatable. I had changed my major to Logistics and Transportation management..... It wasnt sitting well with me and I ended up changing back to CompSci. Im glad you stuck with it. Im 30 and I almost gave up plenty of times and the imposter syndrome really is hard to get through.
Reminds me of myself. I took intro to programming. It was a Python class. The first course required. I failed it with a D and I was devastated. I took the class again, immediately and I ended up getting a B. That taught me that I need to stay ahead of the game. I should not give up just because I fell behind and failed one class.
Me in 2014 : been there Me in 2015: still there... Me 2016-2017: there...getting better Me in 2018: I got this Me an adult...in 2019, who knows a lot more:realizes that you've got to be a life-long learner to be a proficient software engineer/developer
Im so glad I took the time to read all the comments. Iv been contemplating switching majors because I am having such a hard time with my Math classes. My programming classes are difficult but I am able to follow them. My math courses are frustrating and I am having to retake most of them. Hopefully I can catch on and get passed them.
Ah yes, my daily dose of some Gyasi video! Another smooth one man. This one is good because you are actually being real. This degree is not easy. You're being vulnerable and letting us all know your feelings, and how a majority of us honestly feel. It is getting tougher for me with my C++ course and my Computer Architecture class but I am working so hard, and the payoff will be huge. Every talking point was legit and real. Thanks again!
been in the lab part where i struggled the most. BRO i like got anxiety after each weekly milestone we submitted but a word for people going through this . Your struggle right now doesnt mean you re a failure, and trust me u ll get better and u ll be able to achieve great stuff later if u keep working hard for it. I mean dont loose hope if u see ur friends acing the cs exams and the milestone and they already got some big tech backgroung compared to you. it s normal a lot gp through this but keep the good work going
#BeenThereBro: Got through Intro. to Prog. The next semester course, I was able to get through the first lab assignment (encryption/decryption using strings) with a TA's assistance. After the first exam though, which I failed miserably, I [also] questioned if I could make it through the rest of the coursework. Obtaining a CS degree was [in-part] my dream, and I really didn't want to major in anything else. So, I decided to work on my core req's and learn more about another passion of mine (music), until I decided to go "all-in" to getting that CS degree. With my professors and peers' guidance, I am glad of the decision(s) that I made!
I withdrew from college during fall semester last year because I was incredibly frustrated with my lack of understanding math and chemistry. I'm not even studying CS yet, just science. I keep feeling like a failure because my home life is really impeding on my focus at school and I don't know if I'll ever be as great as I know I could be.
DUDE! Good looks pushing through. I gotta make a video next on WHY I ACTUALLY QUIT COMPUTER SCIENCE. Ha! Thanks for being open and honest about this topic. Imposter syndrone is real, especially in college when you're competing against a lot of other classmates.
Man thank you I'm there right now. I am struggling with my discrete Structures class and was thinking about throwing in the towel. I watched your video yesterday, a day in the life of a software engineer and thought man I could never be like that he probably was always good at coding. Then I saw this video today lol I feel a lot better! BEEN THERE
Been there bro, i still face alot of issues, I am a 3rd year undergrad and studying Artificial intelligence and Algorithms courses, life is interesting and tough and fun and frustrating all at once.
Thanks, great advice! I am set to start @ WGU for a BA CS degree, I just took an intro python course, and yea it can be overwhelming. I am questioning if I should really go for this or not after hearing dropout rates. I have been out of school for 20 years and only have a Google IT prof. cert, but while achieving this the small portions of programming involved really intrigued me. After spending 45 hours this week working on a python program, I felt burnt out wondering if I should really do this. Loved your encouragement and that it doesn't mean to quit.
Man, i'm at third semester studying system development. Your videos renewed my faith to still at the course. This is my second degree at college, I'm migrating from the advertising market to IT market, i always like technology and wanted to learn about. I'm from Brazil by the way, and following your channel, great advices!
BEEN THERE BRO!!!! I'm still in the trenches when it comes to mathematics and physics (my uni forces all CS majors to take it). I didn't have experience with writing code before college and I took C++ as my first programming class and LOVED IT. I got an A in the class and the following semester Java beat me senseless and I had to drop it. I self-studied over the summer and destroyed my Java class in the Fall. You have to trust the process. There are so many resources online to help you out. A big part of programming is knowing how to properly search up the information you need. Stack Overflow is my best friend lol. Computer Science is such a vast field and it helps to dabble in a few projects to see WHAT you like within the field. This is a field where problem-solving is REALLY IMPORTANT!!!! Thinking outside the box is a skill that can take you a long way. Take your time with learning, do side projects to reinforce your core skills, try and land internships so you can have industry experience and HAVE FUN!!
Thank you brother im staring my path now at 32 I have soo much work experience from accounting to truck driving.I keep coming back to computers and the way they work as well as electricity with the work of tesla nd the current wars in the early 1900s I just wanna mash all that together so its time. Within 5 years I have some kind of dual major if I stick with computer science or just electrical engineering or just being a electrician with some kind of coding or basic computer degree ill let the sky be the limit! i know what I want to do thats half the battle. God bless thanks for sharing your journey.
I was pursing computer science, but then I changed majors. Before I started school I knew absolutely NOTHING about computer science, but I wanted to get a degree fast so I went to an advanced school so I learned a lot in a short amount of time (what I learned in one year at a two year college for a BA is what someone would learn in two years at a four year college for a BA). Turns out, even though it interested me, I realized it wasn’t my passion. Point of the story, pursue your PASSION and if you’re interested in other things then just take side courses ... just my two cents 🤷🏻♀️ hope it helps someone!
Needed this my into to programming class has been a little difficult making me think twice about pursuing Software Development as career. After seeing this I’m definitely not going to give up. I’m going to keep pushing!
Yes I understand. I hope you have not given up and all is well. Computer Science is not easy, but if you enjoy it, and you push through it, great things await. You are basically learning a new language, and on top of that you are learning a science, just like physics or chemistry.
Hey man I know I am super late to this video but I just wanted to say that I am happy I came across it now. I am feeling super discouraged in my intro to python class and night possibly fail and thinking I am not right for this industry. But after watching your video I am ok with possibly failing the course. It sucks of course and I am not going to just give up completely but if I don't pass, it's all good. Thanks for being awesome and if you are ever in the DC area and when we are not in a pandemic would love to pick your brain. Happy coding!!
Been there, everytime I decided to quit and I feel like a big loser because build software is my dream then I took a break from school I went to udemy, codecademy, coursera, teamtreehouse, etc... then I'm now enrolled back at school and things are going well
I’m in an intro to python class right now and I’m struggling. I had a lab due this morning and I know I messed up bad. I have a D in the course right now and it’s really stressing me out. I’m hoping I can push through and get a C somehow. I’ve had two mental breakdowns now
I'm Computer engineering, I struggle will all computer science courses. Glad I'm done with all that side of my classes, CS2 killed me and the professor had to make a 35% a C
I started taking CompSci, and I feel so frickin dumb. I took a prereq class, which I got a D in. Taking a pass/fail bridge course now that I'm barely passing in 🙈 I'm trying to hang in there!!!
Been there. I might pick CS, but at that time the introduction course that I had wasn't good enough, gave me perspective that I won't be success to complete my degree in CS. So I pick another degree, telecommunication engineering. At the end my degree, I made web app using flask, for my thesis. That's when I realized I'm still in love with CS project.
I feel like this video was for me I failed my intro to programming java Got an F! Didn’t drop out bc I didn’t care about my gpa lol and BROO i also wanted to switch majors or careers but man I felt like I was shot to but I took it again bc my dream job is to be a software engineer but becoming one ain’t easy at all thinking wtf did I get myself into I soon realized that every engineer etc career is all hard trust me So for me I was like if everything is hard y not I take the class again and I am and if I fail again I’m done with life 😄
1. I’m going through this right now, I took this intro to programming class and we’re learning c++, and I was actually having a hard time with it. I have no programming experience before this, when I get stuck on a problem, i am stuck. I could never get the coding right because of one thing or a few things that wouldn’t work. Or I couldn’t be creative enough to think of the coding for it to work. I’m still learning. I’m so scared but thanks to you I’m going forward with it and I’m gaining confidence 2. How/when did you get your internship? like what experience did you have before it because I’m just starting off in computer science and I want to know when is a good time to start an internship in terms of skill
Bro. my git to github connection didn’t work in intro to java so I cried in the bathroom and decided CS was too hard, I’m dumb af, it’s not for me and pursued a business major I was unhappy about instead. I didn’t even get into the actual coding yet. Plus they had starter code which fucked me up cuz I was like I don’t understand this starter code when I really should’ve just gotten a general idea of what it did and focused on the assignment. Anyway now it’s 2 years later and after a bunch of business classes, I know I want to do CS but every single day I question if I am too dumb for this or now. Thanks for this video. Dude I also wanted to do a industrial engineering for a hot minute haha
Jake Garcia I didn’t do CS originally. I was just taking a CS class. Yeah it’s going to take longer to graduate but it’s something I actually like. I only did business cuz I was told I needed to get a degree and wanted a “practical” degree.
I see so many people on the interweb hating on CS degrees, I am currently in First Year Engineering and it is god awful, the only perk of the 2 semesters was the one course that introduced students to the software engineering major. Needless to say I aced that sucker, not that it was easy, I just spent so much time on it, because I loved it. I got B's and C's on all the other intro courses(Fluid Dynamics, Circuit analysis, Chemistry for Engg etc), and I absolutely hated them. Those B's and C's are preventing me from entering the Software Major, such irony. I don't know if I should cut and apply for CS degree or just suck it up and continue in an engg major I sorta maybe like... What's your advice?
I am a computer science major who had ZERO experience when I started. I have found that my fellow students who could code C++ and Java (Python comes in later) before they started have an advantage, but my fellow students who are great mathematicians have a WAY better advantage. Its all math with a little coding. Oh and being able to live from the command line is a HUGE skill to bring to a CS program. One of the sharpest students I have come across booted his laptop with Ubuntu - never even touched Mac OS or Windows. And he coded using a text editor built into Linux - not an IDE. That is who will kick your ass in a CS program.
I disagree. I'm really really bad at math and I'm pretty good at programming. And I had some classmates who were so good at math that they didn't even need to do the third exam to pass the course, and they had to repeat the course "introduction to programming (in python which is super easy)"
@@allanbaal2743 If you are talking about intro to Python I am guessing you have not yet made it through Discrete Math then Data Structures and Algorithms with its set theory, and finally Theory of Computation with its linguistics and Turing Machines? If that is true, I bet the mathematicians catch up in coding and do well in those math-heavy classes (third year). If you already passed by those classes then I think you are having an unusual experience. In the mean time, anyone who is getting a straight math degree nowadays HAS to learn how to code as it is part of the modern math curriculum.
@@MSneberger I had Discrete mathematics at the same time with intro to programming (1st semester) Now I'm in Prog II (3rd sem) By the way, I'm not in CS, I'm in SE. But I can tell being so bad at math, I always get 90+ grades in programming laboratories.
I see you got the Ohio bobcats poster. Did you go to OSU? If you did I'm considering going there. Looking for some feedback from individuals that went there. Regardless, great video man. Thanks for the good video.
Hey, I'm a HS junior and I've really been enjoying your videos as they are very motivating and insightful. I enjoy CS and the applications of it and how it could impact the world in the future, but I've been hesitant to major in it because I've heard it can be isolating and solitary. My ideal job would involve COLLABORATION, mainly, using my knowledge and ideas to help solve real world problems. I'm afraid CS can be too isolating and I was wondering, given your experience, how big is the collaboration aspect in the tech industry? Do people work together and discuss real issues or is it mainly sitting alone all day? Any advice would be greatly appreciated!
Does your HS offer a CS class? If so, try it out, and your questions can then be answered. Also, depending on the company and/or project, collaboration and/or working in isolation can exist. Good luck!
been there bro xD, I had to build a game (Galaga) just out of a GUI they gave us. It was quite interesting tho ( it was last semester tho, so im still prety new )
How does coding get you paid? Like in all honesty I know it’s a job and career and you get paid good money but like what does the coding do or where does it go?
That's a big question! It really depends on the specific company. For example, youtube is entirely made up of code! Computer scientists (also called software engineers) use code to design youtube, and make it work. Code is everywhere and every piece of technology requires it
Everything is ran off a software server or systems...more things are smart like cars and houses all that stuff is a software and someone has to write it so...software jobs are going up 29%
I needed this so bad haha , I’m stressed between taking discrete math and object oriented programming in c++ and sometimes I feel like my minds gonna explode 😅
keep pushing! took discrete math last semester was one of my fav classes! watching youtube videos on this course helped me so much!! should look into it! and currently taking object oriented programming in c++ this semester, wish me luck!
@@amberx2274 Hey, I hope you're doing okay. I completely forgot I made this comment until I got this reply. I switched into design last year and I'm happier than ever. :) It made me fall back into love with programming too.
@@chelseashift I really dislike cs. I tried to leave twice but my parents keep pressuring me bc they want me to get a degree. The first time I tried to leave I went for bootcamp instead (cause it was too late to rejoin the course that yr) and it made me realize how programming was what I wanted to do. 2nd time I tried to leave they went to talk to the admin and I went back. This time I won't let them pressure me back into unhappiness just so that they won't be disappointed. I hope I can come back later and tell you I'm as happy as you are.
Mate, just can't understand how someone can literally self-study the whole discrete maths. NO LECTURES?! All I had was a shambolic notes. Gosh it has really taken all the time to figure out. As a consequence it is affecting the other modules.
hey man I'm in college and I'm also feeling really lost with my computer science major and I'm seriously thinking about changing my major. I can't really understand my professor's lecture since I'm new and he always used all the technical terms that I just couldn't understand at all. Do you have any advice for me? Thank you, love your video!

I hate useless math

It depends I got my computer science/mathematics degree at a community college and got a job
What's the song at the end?
I feel ya bro.
#BeenThereBro!
Thanks, I am contemplating whether I want to keep pursuing CS. I'm still not sure but now I know I am not alone.
Hey have you decided?
@@dilby3246 I am pursuing something different thanks for inquiring
Been there bro!
oh man it was right on time you can’t even imagine..
Might take up computer science
Bro. my git to github connection didn’t work in intro to java so I cried in the bathroom and decided CS was too hard, I’m dumb af, it’s not for me and pursued a business major I was unhappy about instead.
Jake Garcia nah dude. CS is way better.
Jake Garcia I didn’t do CS originally. I was just taking a CS class. Yeah it’s going to take longer to graduate but it’s something I actually like. I only did business cuz I was told I needed to get a degree and wanted a “practical” degree.
Jake Garcia thanks! You too!
Greate Video man, I really love them.
What is the name of this music ?
The #NotificationGang. We liiit 🔥
Taking an intro to html/css workshop class next Wednesday, ahh
That’s dope and I hope you enjoy it I love those languages!
tbh intro to java was very fun to me
Been there bro....still there bro
I'm having trouble choosing between Computer engineering and Mechanical engineering. What are your thoughts on these majors?
Can relate man. Discrete math bros… Ls were taken even before I sat down and the prof already had dozens of math equations the the projector. Fml
People always say computer science doesn’t teach you how to code, but how to think.
🤣 , haha it's all code and syntax
Been there bro
Keep at it. My cs degree changed my life.
how?
@@tinn7s163 I have a great paying job, equity packages and retirement lol
@@MSneberger
I had Discrete mathematics at the same time with intro to programming (1st semester)
Now I'm in Prog II (3rd sem)
By the way, I'm not in CS, I'm in SE.
But I can tell being so bad at math, I always get 90+ grades in programming laboratories.
@@allanbaal2743 SE vs. CS = your answer. CS is more math-heavy.
I'm a senior and want been smart with computer, I wanna be a computer science Major, in Software and Apps developer, trynna get some ideas
Good luck!
@@TravisGarnett thanks. My school does offer one and I'm taking it next year, I'm hoping that'll answer my questions.
I'm rooting for you!
been there bro xD, I had to build a game (Galaga) just out of a GUI they gave us. It was quite interesting tho ( it was last semester tho, so im still prety new )
im THERE RIGHT THERE

For me I'm trying to change strategy looking for a way to get usa green card instead but I need an american advanced degree to qualify

Pretty sure he just mispronounced the word "faux".
@@victoryb.5437 ooooh ok lol I thought "wow, that sounds fancy" lmao
Cool, fox leather is really cruel tho lol
So are you a front end DEV? If so do you like it better then back end?
YaBoyKrypto i just got a 45 on my discrete midterm suck but im gonna try to push through
Kudos for pressing forward!
keep pushing! took discrete math last semester was one of my fav classes! watching youtube videos on this course helped me so much!! should look into it! and currently taking object oriented programming in c++ this semester, wish me luck!
Huge projects 🤣 , every semester and kept me thinking bugs next projects 🤣
@@Ro.T560 45/45? Damn that's sweet G. Good job
Been there bro and I’m still there :/
I think I'm gonna be leaving computer science. I'm not happy and I can't tolerate it anymore.
I am literally in this stage. I have 1.5 months to go and after this semester I think I'm going to leave.
@@amberx2274 I hope you do too. Good luck. May you find happiness.
