    Insane progress in only a little over a year. I ran 26:30s in college and graduated the same year as you but I’m not quite in sub 2:20 shape yet. Hope to get there soon!

    • @CharlieTeeterRunning
      @CharlieTeeterRunning  Месяц назад

      Thank you! You’ll get there I’m sure. I will say while I ran 26:40s at nationals, my XC PR was 24:39 and I ran 14:28 on the track for 5k. I really struggled to race consistently well and up to fitness in college especially during my senior year, so this 2:18 felt like the culmination of 1-2 years of fitness finally coming together on the right day

    I was in the seeded section, running for my school for the NAIA. My race didn't go the way I wanted it to. I was trying to run 2:30 but ended up blowing up bad at Mile 20. I thought I was fine going out in 1 hour 16 through the half, but I don't know what happened after that. I felt super easy through mile 19. CIM was my first Marathon ever so I am hoping to bounce back next for my graduate year.

    • @CharlieTeeterRunning
      @CharlieTeeterRunning  Месяц назад +1

      I’m sure you’ll bounce back. That course is definitely tougher than it seems in the first half if you don’t gauge it right. I think running my first marathon in august helped me a lot to get a feel for the distance, so I’m sure you’ll have a similar experience and have a better idea of how to go about things to crush your second one

    CONGRATS! Curious what your Coros had as your marathon time prediction?

    • @CharlieTeeterRunning
      @CharlieTeeterRunning  Месяц назад +1

      Thanks! I ran a 5k on a track with really poor service in my old watch this past spring and my watch thought I split 13:30… ever since then my race predictions have been way too fast (2:03-2:04 full marathon). My base fitness and intensity trends are super accurate though and correspond well with how I’m feeling. Base fitness plot has been on a steady slow climb over the last months of building

  • @TwiinStar1224
    @TwiinStar1224 Месяц назад

    Great progress in a year! I'm curious, how were you able to improve so much in pace over a longer distance once you graduated? I'm guessing Johns Hopkins doesn't have insane facilities for athletes like a USC, but it seems like you'd be better setup for success during school than after. Do you have more free time to train now?

    • @CharlieTeeterRunning
      @CharlieTeeterRunning  Месяц назад +1

      While 26:43 was my last XC race, it was one of my worst races. My PR was 24:39, and I had run 14:28 for 5k prior to that race as well. I struggled to race consistently my senior year and don't think I had any races that truly matched up with my fitness. For example, my training in the spring semester before graduating indicated that I was in sub 30:00 10k shape, but I only ever ran 30:40. So yes, I have made a huge jump in fitness since graduating, but there's also a lot of fitness built up from my last year at Hopkins that hadn't shown through supporting that jump as well. Hopkins has very good facilities (not on a USC level though, of course) and does a great job of setting athletes up for success both in running and from a career perspective. I've just tweaked a few things since graduating and gained a lot of confidence in the process

    • @CharlieTeeterRunning

      The SIS gels I used were kinda large so maybe just fell under liquid rules? Or maybe it was sus that I had so many. Not sure, lol

    Congrats Man 🐐 I Have A Question So U Got 1st In Your Age Group But Ended With 36th I Would’ve Thought 20-25 Would Be The Fastest Runners Would Be. What Age Group Do You Think Is The Fastest?

    • @phyllo8958
      @phyllo8958 Месяц назад +1

      The fastest age group in this race was 25-29.
      Generally, the best age group is younger for shorter races and gets older for longer races: 100m sprinters will often be at their best before age 25, while pro marathoners often can beat their PRs into their 40s.

    • @CharlieTeeterRunning
      @CharlieTeeterRunning  Месяц назад +2

      ^^^^ what he said. Also I think there may have been one or two people 20-24 who finished ahead of me, but technically they were high enough up to qualify for elite awards which took them out of contention for the age group awards. Not exactly sure how that all works, I’d have to do some digging through results

    Logistical question: what shorts allowed you to store 6 SiS gels?!

    • @CharlieTeeterRunning
      @CharlieTeeterRunning  Месяц назад

      I wore the lulu lemon fast and free 3” shorts. I carried 7 gels, only took 6, probably could’ve comfortably carried 8-9. They have great side pockets
