Wale is right, Wonder Girls are actually playing the instruments. Yeol's sketchbook has a great live version of them playing some of their successful songs
Happiness was Red Velvet's actual debut song but they consider their debut to be Ice Cream Cake because that is when Yeri was added. Also for Wonder Girls- I Feel You, all the girls were playing their instruments and know how to play them. Yubin was actually playing the drums.
I love these evolution videos and I agree about 2011 the competition was huge for both boy and girl groups everyone released a hit. if there's a male version I'd definitely enjoy watching it with you
I've been watching you guys on and off for a while but this video got me to subscribe because I can really see how invested you guys are in the kpop culture/history and educating yourselves on the context to make even better reactions and content and i'm SOOO excited for what's to come from this channel even more now!!!
I personally disagree on the best year of kpop. As kpop fans since 2006, I will have to say 2009 to 2010 is the best time. Many bangers and awesome debut. You could even see the 2009 clip here has more songs as well (minus 1, Nobody actually released in 2008). The boy groups did super well too (2PM, 2AM, Beast, MBLAQ, Super Junior, Shinee, Gdragon).
i beg to disagree, 2009 was the golden year of kpop. snsd gee and genie, 2ne1 fire and i don't care, wonder girls nobody, suju sorry sorry, 2pm again & again and heartbeat, shinee ring ding dong, brown eyed girls abracadabra, and many more hit songs. 2009 was the toughest competition.

12:38 EXID was great, and I think when talking about female kpop rappers, people always forget to mention L.E. She literally pioneered a style of rap for female idols- literally taught HyunA how to rap (she did rap before, but she sounded very different from the iconic hyunA rap we know today) She also wrote most of EXID's songs and (I think) helped produce as well!
True, but sadly, BlackPink is being put as the antagonist of kpop. They are on different generations but they're on the end of each spectrum, I just don't know why kpop would hate a group that just make kpop known to.
@@yevgenyalekhinelargo1662 I've been following BlackPink since their predebut days, and they're definitely not antagonists, I think they're a solid group. They made a really great first impression during their debut and brought a new energy to Kpop. Unfortunately, they haven't really evolved since Ddu du ddu du, and my hot take is blinks may be the reason for that. It's essentially the Wonyoung syndrome. Wonyoung constantly maintains a public persona and is never able to show her true personality because there are too many people fawning over this persona. Unfortunately, half of Blackpinks fandom likes them for their 'expensive and confident concept' and want to see them do nothing else. Can you imagine how lukewarm the response would be if they did something like Whistle or Stay as a title track? I hope they try new things though. I hope they do a retro concept, or a beach concept, or a darker, grittier concept, and show more sides of themselves.
@@starsign0805 what I mean about BlackPink being the antagonist is because almost all fandoms are just making hate on them for almost no reason, even knetz themselves hate BlackPink. So even tho it's just partially true, BlackPink and Blinks being put the image as the antagonists of kpop. About their songs, I do believe they evolved tho, you can't say Shutdown and D4 are the same, except for the even stronger and hip hoppy message it brings, shutdown brought different side of them, they all rap and being sassy while in D4 they are getting strong because of the hate they have replied to. I can see your point about their concept of being the bad girls but that's how they portray empowerment, sometimes women empowerment, even Little Mix did that, most of their songs are great but they mostly send the same message on every song. BTS and Twice does the same concept most of the time, which is about their hardwork and the sympathy for fans. Red Velvet is weird, but that's what they are good at, they have their own world and it still is effective, they send different messages every song. So back to BlackPink, imagine BlackPink doing a beach and retro concept, that's clearly what Twice does and literally the most common of kpop does. Nothing is actually new when kpop groups used that concepts. Anyways, it's not their title track but Yeah3 is a retro song. And also, I think the new concept or lesser used if we would be generalizing music is hip hop or pure ballad. Many does that but not effective because kpop is being happy, loud, cute or aegyo, higher pitch and mainly dancing for visuals.
@@Wonyoungcodes i discovered and liked many Kpop girl groups especially New jeans.....but nobody replaced Blackpink for me . I really want Pinks to make a comeback now😞
the years for several songs were actually off by 1 year. The wrong ones were listed 1 year too late, like WG Nobody which was in 2008. And Lee hyori's 2008 song listed as "I'm your girl" is actually "U-Go-Girl", completely wrong title. And 2AM, 2PM are both boy groups, haha.
6:13 Actually 2pm and 2am were both boy groups. 2am was a ballad group while 2pm did more pop and dance music. (and a whole.lot of acrobatics? Their choreo was crazy)
Yes please, make a special video to Baby V.O.X they're my favorite group of 1st gen, I feel some nostalgia that I can't explain because I just got into kpop in 2018 lol But their songs are really catchy ''Get up'', ''Killer'' and ''Coincidente'' are a must
I agree. I would love it if they did a special video just on them, then one just on S.E.S and maybe even one for FinKL. My favorite Baby V.O.X songs are 나 어떡해 and 배신 🙂

Woodz was actually a member of X1) There's also Japanese and Chinese versions of the produce series.

Kpop originates from hiphop and R&B. Y’all the founders of K-pop said they loved hiphop and R&B, went to the states and came back to Korea and said look at this! I want to share my favorite music genres from America with you! Idk why ppl hate when you bring up Kpop was inspired and continues to be inspired by black people! It’s just a fact and these idols will tell you when you ask who inspires you 9 times out of 10 they will name multiple black artists and musicians.
FACTS though -- the people who try to argue any different are just plain uneducated and ignorant. I even took a music/rock and roll history class in university and tbh MOST of today's modern genres are inspired by american africans/africans. Kpop, Rock, Country, Jazz, Funk, Pop, Latin Pop, Reggae(ton), etc. Not just OG Kpop artists/current idols but even the greats of Zeppelin and The Rolling Stones will say they were inspired by black pioneers like Little Richard, Chuck Berry, Bo Diddley, etc.
