      @@modeswitching my REAL advice would be getting a digital mixer or an xtouch / X18 combo, but since I started with a USB interface, this was the cheapest way to have more inputs for my hybrid system. We can't all win the lottery ;-) And we still collect too many synths lol

    Great video mate. What a bit of kit as well!!! Insane amount of features! Do they do a rack mounted version too? I know that defeats the purpose of small and portable haha! But when I replace mine I really want to put it in the rack out of the way on my desk. Magic video lads.

    hi jack! thanks for the video! When i use the ADAT inputs, does it also have the zero latency monitoring just like the rest of the UA inputs have ?

  • @jonrasmuson
    @jonrasmuson 2 года назад +2

    I just got one and Im pleased with a lot, however my unit (at times) when getting plugged in starts with the monitor volume at full. Also when the device gets replugged/unplugged theres a loud volume pop in the speakers (even-though the volume is turned all the way down). This makes the unit quite unreliable and annoying since its a "travel" piece of gear and is supposed to be unplugged/replugged a lot.
    Am I alone with these hiccups or has anyone else experienced similar? Or might know a solution?

    The two headphones jacks on the front are not separate, they share the main headphone output, if you want a different headphones mix for a second pair of headphones you have to use outputs 3/4 on the back.

    On my high end system I've had nothing but grief with the ID14 Mark 1 it just glitches ever so slightly in Studio One. Also the headphone DAC has limited headroom.

    Deal-Breaker question: I read an online review that said when using the scroll knob to control DAW/plugin/software instrument parameters, the value is stepped not continuous (since the hardware encoder has detents).
    Is this really the case? Seems it would render it unusable for MIDI input to synth parameters etc.
    Can anyone please confirm either way? This looks like a nice package, but steppy rather than smooth MIDI input would make it a deal-breaker for me.😮

    Back in the day, when ADAT was the best thing ever, most of us were delighted to run 48/16 or 48/24, and for the most part that was fantastic. We’re used to much higher sample and bit rates now, what can this ADAT based system go to?

  • @matzer8846
    @matzer8846 2 года назад +1

    Well ... if you are on Linux using JACK you can always just use more interfaces ...
    BUT YEAH
    ... either this ADAT or a cool mixer ... and i do guess ADAT is more flexible and has better audio quality ‼
    Great introduction .... thanks a lot ❗✔

    • @KeithMilner
      @KeithMilner 2 года назад +1

      Adding multiple interfaces which aren't word-clocked can introduce glitches as they aren't running at exactly the same sample rate, so you can get the occasional xrun.

    • @matzer8846
      @matzer8846 2 года назад +1

      @@KeithMilner
      Thanks ... you do need serious CPU power and have to watch for this when you are doing all inputs at once ...
      Me option was more - or less - a Q&D workaround ...

    • @KeithMilner
      @KeithMilner 2 года назад +1

      @@matzer8846 I have an 18 input audio interface (a Behringer XR18) and I have recorded a 16 track live band gig over nearly 2 hour into Ardour on quite a moderate specification laptop (a 2012 era Asus Zenbook UX32A with Core i5-3317U & 4G RAM).
      Yes, it was running fairly hot, but it handled it like a champ.
      Using multiple individual interfaces will, if anything, increase CPU, as well as xruns. It's probably fine for, as you say, a Q&D solution.

    This is old thread but i have to mention this so others dont make the same mistake as me. I got an ID44 MKII and i will agree with you a lot to offer in an affordable interface and the preamps are definitely neck and neck with uad apollos and possibly cleaner but i will say this to anyone searching and that is beware and be prepared for a lot of headaches trying to get your audient working properly. Also if you need customer service well there is none because if you email them they wont respond unless your lucky at possibly 2 months down the road. Also, the pres in this thing are so sensitive i cant even record with the gain set at half way without it being unusable with the amount of distortion/crackles,pops and just plain clipping in general. About 4 to maybe 4.5 is all you can do. Ive done everything to gain stage and it doesn’t matter. I have talked to others who have the same problem and got rid of their ID.
    Also if you have a Ryzen pc let me repeat this again. If you have a Ryzen pc the mixing software may not even function properly for you. Its even stated on their faqs. I have to literally unplug the usb cable while pressing a daw thru function for say outputs 3/4 for sends and returns otherwise the mixing software freezes and you have to close out and this literally is the only way to get it to work. In another year i will be going RME and never looking back. I dont care how good the pres are in an interface if the rest of the package is unusable. My opinion stay clear of audient until they fix their shitty mix software with a professional firmware update and they fix the pres problems. Good luck and don’t buy what these sponsored content creators tell you like i did. Search the forums. If you want a quality interface besides UAD you either go RME, Lynx, Apogee period. Trust me you will thank me later! Audient is the worst non existent customer service i have ever experienced. Good luck.
