The feeling when listening again is still the same as the first time, the feeling is heroic and attractive, the work is very impressive, especially with this Unicorn set.
It definitely is emotional. It definitely feels like the sound you'd expect to hear to some some sort of miraculous event or a hero entering dramatically. Considering how the Unicorn is designes and how Barnagher wants to use it the music suits well to that.
And the beautiful thing about it? It seems like he doesn't just want to make an orchestra just to take credit for it, he too want to be part of it and feel the music
I really think youd have ultimate anime/game ost material with Hiroyuki Sawano, Masayoshi Soken, Susumu Hirasawa and either Yuka Kitamura or Ilan Eshkeri composing different tracks. Soken composed all the amazing tracks in FFXIV, Hirasawa has made music for anime like Berserk and Metropolis, Kitamura is the composer of Dark souls 3 (possibly the best DS OST imo) and Eshkeri composed the amazing score of Ghost of Tsushima.
I'm a man, and I'd die for a ticket to a "Mobile Suit" live performance. We're a perfect pair. Someone please give each of us a ticket, and after the show you can watch JJ kill the shit outta me.
It's never too late to start. The gundam series has many timelines. The original and the best one is called "Universal Century" or "U.C." for short. If you ever want to dive in the gundam universe, I high recommend starting with the UC timeline. It's goes way back, but it's worth the watch.

Unicorn became canon when it was turned into the animated series that we all know now. The sequel was already announced a while back , Hathaway's Flash, which also only became canon when the animation was announced . It's a general rule that when a UC series get's animated, it's canon now. They just make a few tweaks to make it fit to the canon universe.
