"Give a like" No, buddy, I will not be giving you JUST a like and bye bye, I am subscribing and staying right here, thank you very much. You have such a good heart for wanting to help others get into Shariden, like I can see how much effort you put into these videos, your free portfolio reviews, everything! Thank you so much for being that kind of artist, MUCH appreciated!
I going say this again thank you so much for this for someone who is basically doing this in a void and relying on free content to practice and develope my portfolio this is a big help thanks a bunch
Thank u so much for this. I was gonna apply last year but got intimidated by all the things I gotta learn and teach myself so I decided to take a gap year to assure myself time. YOUR DOING GODS WORK FRRR!!!
This is exactly the video I needed, honestly you're very good at breaking down stuff. Its been weeks where ive been struggling to plan my tasks and time dedicated for the sheridan portfolio and this video simply blew my mind. Thank you!
THese videos you make are rlly helpful and also motivating in a sense, so thanks for all the tips and guidance!! I hope ur enjoying ur time at sheridan as well ofc
thank you so much, you’re literally a life saver!! as someone who never attended any classes and been a self taught artist, i’m so glad to find this video and your channel with all these free resources :D though figure drawing sessions are so expensive in my city, i guess ill just rely on the internet once again :,) starting on my portfolio rn!!
Most videos on Sheridans Animation program are the finished portfolios themselves, I can tell both of your videos are going to be incredibly helpful for making my own!! Thank you for putting so much time and effort into this! 🫶🫶
Amazing!!! I can tell how hard you worked for last three years… your tip is going to be very helpful for me!!!! And if you do not mind please review my portfolio later on!! Tysm for this video! :D
Hello your videos have literally given me hope for applying again I’m currently attending Sheridan in the art fundamentals program and even though I have resources there I would also be super grateful if you could just glance at my new portfolio at a scheduled time if that’s okay
Could you please make a google doc of your description with all the sources from part 1 and the step breakdown list you showed in this video please? Ur vids are super useful, tysm!
these videos are so amazing??!! I'm applying this year and this has been SO much help! thank you so so much! It might be a little late, but I was wondering if you were still doing the portfolio reviews?
Hey man! Thanks so much for giving all these free info on applying, I subscribed to you in both my channels lol. You got me motivated to actually apply to Sheridan this year, and if I get in its all on you. I totally agree on the no gatekeeping thing. I got a couple links and reference sites too but for some reason youtube keeps deleting my comment if I add links? But plss lmk if I can share these. Ty!
YES! Let’s go! So glad to hear that! Please do share all the resources you have! Unfortunately I cant share external links either, due to the size of my channel, maybe you can type the website names tho?
@@brokendraw Sure! This is my SECOND TRY LMAO I'll just mention them Storyboard: (animation screencaps) (Film Grab) Layout: (floor plan creator) Figure Drawing: (sketch daily) (reference angle)
@@brokendraw No problem! Again thanks so much for taking the initiative to help hundreds of aspiring animators out here :) Btw do you mind if I chat u up in your instagram regarding going to animation school?
Definitely will be using these tips in upcoming application! (I am Slightly Late to the game) but was curious if you had suggestions for someone who has a fulltime AND parttime job (60 hrs a week) and how to dedicate enough time toward making a portfolio?
@@kitrodriguez8955 shorten your time horizons! Truth , a lot of time is spend doing the things that don’t make a difference. For me I had to learn the hard way that a character turnaround doesn’t take 80 hours. We spend time on stuff because we think it takes that long (Parkinson’s law!). If the portfolio is due in February, it will take you until February to make it. So I’d say, give yourself 1 month to create the entire portfolio- just see how you do. Finish every piece- get it done not perfect. You’ll probably find you did more than you expected given the time, because with so little time you cut the fat so to speak. You only do what matters. Time constraints can be good because you have to be intentional with your time. I made both of these videos while I worked a full time job and had school, and I found I was more focused then ever because of it. The trick was to make 2 hrs a day for these videos - before the commitments of my day would begin (5-7 am for example). The night before, write down the task you need to complete the next morning. With full focus on the right tasks, the portfolio really won’t be as daunting as it sounds. Hope this helps! Thanks for watching and commenting by the way.
I cant explain how much i loved these videos! These are just what i was looking for, i cant believe it! But i really want to ask you something and i would be so grateful if you answered. I am a high school student in Turkey and i have 3 and a half years before i apply and wanted to start early. I looked up dozens of animation schools all around the world but Sheridan seemed the most suitable for me. But my biggest concern is that i am colorblind and people usually complain about the colors i use in my drawings and the unfortunately i usually cant see my mistakes in colors. I have Deuteranomaly type of colorblindness (You can look up how i see if you want) and was curious if that would be a big problem.
Hey, thanks for reaching out! Glad you liked the video! It’s great that you’re starting out early! Regarding your colourblindness, it’s not a problem to get into the program, frankly, I’m a bit colourblind myself (protanomaly) and it hasn’t affected my performance. The program does not emphasis colour very much, and as you improve, your colour choices will just be incorporated into your style. For me, I still practice painting and seeing colours but I mostly work in black and white ink. Hope that’s eases your worries, you should be just fine!
Thank you thank you thank you!! Im applying for fall 2025 and this video is so helpful. Ill def need to ask you to review my portfolio when i get it done but before that can i get a link to the schedule on Google drive please 🙏🏽
Thanks a lot for the thorough guides they are really what I need as I'm making my portfolio for the upcoming applications! Could I ask for a direct critique? 😀
I'm having trouble finding a good software to draw digitally for my portfolio I was wondering if you could suggest what software you think is best to use and practice for a portfolio btw awesome and helpful video :)
@@adivinekind well the portfolio is due in February 20-22nd, so you’d have: October, November, December, jan, and most of February, so from today, around 120 days or 4 months. You still got lots of time!
Do you have advice on the personals? Thats whats stressing me out the most. I feel like theres so many drawings to make and itd take way longer than the other sections. People have told me to wait until the requirements because my art will have gotten better
Shoot all the advice on how I’d do it is in the video, but I’d take on “concept art” projects, and blend your studies into your worldbuilding. For example, you could make a story about a cowboy, and you could study perspective by drawing western saloons or smth- and if you jsut add some shading and/or original elements then it would look like a concept work. As you’re doing your sketches, just try to push your works a little further, spend more time doing less work at a higher level, as opposed to always sketching quick little things. Let me know if u want a call to go more in depth. But that’s how I’d go about it.

There is a small typo in the breakdown list for figure drawing it goes from step one to three. Unless you have a hidden second step for us later.🤔
