the hidden power of drawing with a pen
Просмотров 60 тыс.Месяц назад
Why does Kim Jung Gi only draw with a pen? Why does Peter Han teach students to draw with a pen? Why do all the great masters who can draw from imagination do it with a pen? Because it trains you to be a better artist. You will learn to draw with more confidence, when you use a pen, so if you're struggling to get better at drawing, try it out. Stick with it though, because it's going to be frus...

I had studied shapes for 2 years maybe, I took a long time off and came back - for the past 2 months my drawing was very very bad, painting and copying from refrence was alright but from imagination It was mesrabile, now and as I'm watching this video i was skecting - and when you said " you interpret the objects not copy them " it clicked - things are already looking better - still not that great lol - thanks alot I'll be keeping an eye on this channel .
Me when I’m drawing literally drawing a small wip, with chicken scratch lines, with a pencil 😦
4:00 Ah so that’s why I can’t draw from imagination (I somehow lost my keys while writing this comment)
Let's not forget the golden rule: 'You are your own worst critic.' Balance reference and imagination drawing - 50/50 is good.
I did this for 60 days straight only using pen when I went to bootcamp. My drawing skills skyrocketed, I 100% recommended you do this if you think you can stay consistent
Thank you so much 😭
New beginning 🎉for me
I was going to teach this fundamental skill and it looks like to beat me to it! 😂
art advice so good i had to stand up and go for a little walk
Hahahahahaa
damn.
Even as a beginner, I very much prefer drawing in pen. I use red pen for sketching / construction, & finalized by tracing over the best of my lines in black ink. In this way I see all the mistakes I made along the way, review those mistakes while deciding which lines to keep, & try to make a "flawless run through" w/ black ink at the end. I have a red light headlamp, so I can always turn on the red light to "erase" all of the red ink, & see only the black. I'll then take a picture of the black line art under red light into Krita (free on PC) or IbisPaintX (free on mobile) & finish it out digitally. I've tried going back to pencil a few times, but I noticeable learn less, & noticeable lose motivation faster as I can't see what I did wrong, what was right, & I risk erasing something & regretting it later. With red pen, every stroke is saved, & you can choose the best ones in black ink at the end.
Can you do rotating human anatomy??
😅 kiiiiiinda… depends on the angle.
4:13 now that's my style
I like your way of explaining things. you seem to understand the process and are able to translate it into simple words/lines most people can understand, which does make it seem to me , more honest. also that you record your journey throughout the hole process, helps with people who struggle with the same things to understand where the problem lies. thank you
That’s very aptly put. Thank you!
16:45 I’ve been making this mistake for about 5 years now, realised this a year ago but wasn’t sure how to avoid doing it (also I was just simply addicted to cross-hatching and couldn’t stop). I’m into pen drawings and I can get pretty good details and accuracy from the references, but I’m just too depended on them and can’t actually draw. Gotta start from the beginning now.
Excellent! I had been doing a lot of this but hadn’t quite understood how it all connected together or how powerful it was… Thanks for explaining it so clearly! Feeling inspired and motivated to keep going 💪
not acknowledging kim jung gi kinda shows that you dont research shit before a video and makes me not trust you
That’s alright you don’t gotta trust me! But wdym I don’t research Kim Jung Gi?
bro is a cutie patootie
such an amazing video, you said everything I was thinking but couldn’t put into words. Thanks for sharing
Just watched the end. I hope you heard of Kim Jung Gi's untimely demise at the end of 2022.
I have but why do you hope I’ve heard of it 😭
50 percent left because they thought you were a lesbian.😂 Seriously, I draw with a pen because it's fun.
😭😆 what?!?
Guess what I'm from Egypt
❤❤❤
I typed 'Peter Han" in RUclips, and it brought me to a pastor. I feel like life might be trying to tell me something here.
hahahah thank you!
@@brokendraw no, thank you. This video was a fantastic guide!
you made me wanna start drawing again and finally give it a try to drawing from imagination. thank you so much. keep up the good work!
that's amazing to hear! Thank you.
What annoys me is I can draw things I see pretty decently but I can’t really make things up. In regular life I have good attention to detail and notice everything but I can’t draw things from imagination. I don’t understand the disconnect lol
This video was so good!! Thank you for making this
It's a clickbait, people, he got better, no shock content here
Watch the vid. Save your comment. Don’t be a troll.
@Holwaggy19 it was a concealed compliment to the author, actually. But you have spoiled it. Thanks
I guess I failed to understand the ‘concealed compliment’. My apologies 😊
God bless you
I hate it when channels makes vids this good then I see they only have 10 vids before 😢. Looking forward to more! Instant sub!
Thank you for all your hard work
This is one of the best videos on this topic I have seen on YT. Great work 👏 👍
Thanks a lot! I really appreciate it 🙏
Love your honest sharing of your journey. Starting out learning drawing as an adult, after having kids, I’m constantly facing the hopeless of feeling failure. It’s so fun and frustrating at the same time. I’m learning that perseverance and time invested is key, regardless of innate ability. Look forward to following your progress. I’ll add- I’d be thrilled to reach the level you’re at now, which tells me that the feeling of accomplishment is intangible and infinite.
Man you're the best at explaining. If everything was explained this clearly everyone would be willing to learn. 🎊🎊
I always broke the tip in my graphite pencils when drawing because I like to apply a lot of pressure and got sick of sharpening pencils all day - I now draw mostly with a ball point pen because it lets me be heavy handed and have never looked back. At first, I hated not being able to correct mistakes with an eraser but soon discovered I could use the preliminary sketch to light box the final drawing and make any necessary changes. The other advice I want to give is don't bind yourself to a formal sketch book - feel free to draw on loose pages. Drawing on a single sheet of paper is very liberating !
I might try this...😊
You should!
Best teacher. I hope you keep teaching beginners how to master the basics
I usually always draw from imagination, not because I think it’s “the right way to draw” im just too lazy to get references. I go through the cycle where I go without reference for a while and realize my art is not great and then I use reference to improve.
1:24 aged poorly with an entire new category being added… awesome video, though. I’ll definitely use this video for future reference!
This is really helpful. Thanks. I'm also on my "drawing from imagination" journey.
cool!
Do 15 min of memory drawing every day , no matter what and I promise you , you will get better , for some it will seem impossible for a few weeks , but one day , you will look at the shape your planning to memorize and you will realize that you can hold the shape in your mind. There are no shortcuts, put in the work.
I hope you continue to teach cuz man you are amazing
I was getting ready to binge watch all your videos while I draw... So I went to your page... Just to see that you only have like 7? Dude no way I need more 😭 (I look forward to seeing your channel grow and thrive 💕)
Thank you so much! Many more to come!
I absolutely loved drawing 17, don't you think Kim Jung Gi's drawings also had a lot of things going on in one single page?
That’s very interesting- my friend also said that was his favourite day! I think it’s a personal thing: it didn’t go how I wanted it but that doesn’t mean it isn’t a success! Thank you 🙏
I’m a bit embarrassed to admit I thought you either draw from imagination or you don’t. Drawing from references to “upload” stuff in your head AND treating the drawing as a feedback on what to learn is kinda genius. I admire your openness, honesty and dedication, thanks!
I appreciate your honesty! It's encouraging to show not only the perfect drawings, but the less successful ones ❤
Thank you so much 😀
