The fight at keves castle breaks the shell of confidence and strength she puts up. Behind that shell is a very fragile girl, desperate for recognition, terrified of fumbling basic social interactions aka not fitting in. Given how shit she's treated and how often, I can't blame her from wanting to stay away from others and isolate herself. When they poke fun of her and say she'd look better like "this" but refuse to show what they meant, rewatching that scene made me think what she was showing was too crude even for the Teen rating. My thought? She was pointing the weapons at her face or head, implying sena would look better as a mangled unidentifiable husk.
It makes much more sense now that an insecure character like Sena wouldn't open up to the player even in her own ascension quest. You have to give her time to find her own resolve, it's brilliant. On a side note, considering the biggest difference between Shania and Sena is their upbringing and the fact Sena received more positive feedbacks than Shania ever could, I wonder how the daughter of a very strong willed woman like Brighid would've come out like if she had her mother by her side. Pre/post Aionios Sena is probably a very different character.
Honestly I would love to see either Brighid or Morag interact with this sena. Based on how she reacted to rex losing hope with pyra, I cannot see Brighid allowing her daughter to think the way sena does about herself.
"These feelings of lack of confidence are never rational. They never make sense, but they're there and you still have to try and work around them." Sena is one of, if not my favorite characters in a story ever for exactly this reason. Her low self-esteem and desire for approval do not make sense - she's literally a superhero and is able to do incredible, extraordinary things. She refuses to give herself the slightest bit of credit even after it all. I want to shake her until she learns to love herself... which, ironically, is because I relate so heavily to her that I, too, want to fix and help others for a sense of approval before myself. This analysis was phenomenal, and I'm happy someone gave Sena the deep look she deserves. Often in the fandom, I find people saying that Sena doesn't have much growth, or isn't as interesting as the other characters - and frankly, I'm envious of that mindset. I'm envious of people who can't relate, those who have never had such deep-rooted self-esteem issues that they see Sena's character on the surface. Thank you for the video. This genuinely meant a lot to me.
Sena was my favorite character despite having the least amount of story missions focused on her. She is by far the most relatable person and has a cute side pony tail which I can't name too many characters that keep as a hairstyle
God the main 6 characters of this game are SO GOOD. I have a Bachelor's Honours degree in English Literature so you know I'm not just saying that, the decision to make this more of an ensemble piece was one of the smartest writing decisions this series ever made
Sena is my favorite character in Xenoblade 3 and potentially in all of Xenoblade. At first I liked her just for her design, and I thought her attitude was fun for a game that was otherwise quite serious. But the more her facade showed cracks and I learned about the real Sena as I played through the game, the more I realized I actually related to her. I've struggled with confidence, with independence, and with the notion of strength. I think it's quite a realistic portrayal of somebody with serious self-worth issues, as these troubles are never solved overnight, or through a single good talk. Improving your self-worth takes effort and meaningful reflection over an extended period of time. So of course her story's main resolution only comes in a late-game side quest chain that is extremely out of the way, it's to convey to the player how you have to put in the time and effort to see it through just like Sena ultimately does, too. Relating to Sena and wanting to see her genuinely grow was a motivator to both continue the main story and pushed me to seek out more side content in XC3, and while I wish there was more of her, I can't complain that she was done completely dirty. I also completely agree with the sentiment right at the end of this video. I wish I could tell Sena just how amazing she is.
Unrelated to Sena but I kinda liked that X and Y didn't have death cutscenes. To the party, they were just another set of Moebius in the way. They were evil villains not worth Ouroborous' time or thoughts. It would've been cool to see Mio and Eunie get some catharis, but this way, I can imagine them just watching, pitying X and Y as they die utterly beaten.
Ye it was a pleasant surprise. I had a quick feeling of "oh lame no cutscene? But then I saw they had a long death animation instead so I did a screenshot with eunie in front of X lmao
Hahaha, same. I recall X in Eunie’s side story saying “You’re getting good at this. Killing Moebius.” Little did she know how much that would come back to bite her. By time the party enters Origin, they have everything they need to win. That’s why they’re able to surpass N and the remaining Moebius so quickly. (Though I do think it would’ve been cool if we could team up with Melia and Nia to fight X and Y since I see X and Y as being the shadows of the “wings of Aionios”.)
@emblemblade9245 yup! At that point x and y were common fodder, unworthy of cutscenes! Trying to get back into this game I don't wanna be sluggish when the noah and mio amiibo come out. Hyped to get their unlocks
Excellent video, spectacular writing and pacing. hope this blows up. Really put into words all my thoughts and more about my favourite character in a very well condensed way.
Excellent video, man! I see a lot of myself in Sena, and seeing people count her out for being unimportant does a huge injustice to her character. I look up to her, in a way. Not just because she's physically strong (which I want to be as well), but because she finds an answer that I still need to find, myself. I'd love to see a video on Eunie and her arc. She is powerful AF and one of my absolute favorite Xenoblade characters. Also, Sena needs all the hugs.
Finally! Somebody who understands Sena! Her development isn't shoved in her face, because her growth also isn't. It is slow, gradual, with ups and downs, just like how finding your confidence and worth naturally goes.
Sena need more essai video for giving her support and love. I reconized myself into Sena character. Espacially with the lacking self confident. So while playing I just wanted to see Sena achieve her goal (or her gall)
6:21 To be fair, everyone in the party can use the Signifer class after they unlock it. Lanz is just the first one to do so, being the class inheritor.
Oof, you have NOT played around with Lanz’s classes much have you? I have a LOT more to mess around with since I got most of the classes past 15 for most characters. As to M’s words to Sena, you do remember that M has all of Mio’s memories since they swapped right? She knows what Sena did and what she’s about as a person. Also YIPPEE
Good to see someone give Sena the spotlight she gets slandered so often for "having no development" when that is so far from the truth
it's just not your average development.
Her development's a lot more implicit than the other characters'.

Just realized I relate to sena a lot and that’s why I like her character despite not paying attention to her 😂

There is no proof that Sena is a daughter of Brighid except the flammy hair, not even the eyes (which is a decisive factor in a lot of characters)
@@MoonMillenniummonshe’s one of the main characters and there’s no explicit evidence that she isn’t, so I think it’s pretty safe to assume
@@samboi123 No, it's not.

I love your Xenoblade analyses so much! Definitely hoping we see more for the other main 5 and maybe the DLC characters; if you're up for it
There are three types of people: Those who love Shania, those who love to hate Shania, and those who hate Shania period
