    37 years the line up has naturally evolved, the lineup now varies, but the magic of humour and brilliant musicianship continues ...some might not realise that the bassist Dave Bowie is an original member like David Suich, both are original members of UOGB when it started in 1985. Hester joined 1990, Leisa in 2003, Ben in 2014, Laura and Ben have been part of the band for the past 6 years. The talented newer members continue the wide range of the wonderful musical joy of this orchestra. Laura's vocals are wonderful, but I love the variety of all the different songs.

      Thank you for that Zoe, I've wondered about the line-up as I watch all their videos. This really is an incredibly talented group of people, not just talented but tremendous entertainers and very charismatic people. Long may they play together and bring such happiness to so many people.

    What I really like about this orchestra is that all instruments can be heard by being played if you listen carefully. You can single each instrument out while being played. Each of the instruments all on their own can be heard, and the singer sings nice and loud and very clear above all the instruments. Each individual instrument is not drowned out nor is the singer by any over loud instrument. The whole piece blends together perfectly at the right level of loudness. They have a great audio controller working in the background. That's what makes a great group.

    • @vulgivagu
      @vulgivagu Год назад +1

      They use several types of ukulele starting with the soprano. As they are singing as well they probably tune their ukuleles differently to help differentiate them. Their sound engineer also does his fantastic magic as well. Such a professional group, miss George and now also Dave who disappeared towards the end of last year.

    • @waynedavies3185
      @waynedavies3185 Год назад +3

      @@vulgivagu I know they have different styled Ukes. Like all string instruments size means different tones, as well as woods. Different tuning of each instrument would make no difference as they would be playing all in one main key at a time. If played in key of "C", it would all be played in the same key or it would have sounded weird and out of tune, so tuning is out. What separates the different tones is both in the different styles of strumming and hand rhythms used in a piece played and whether the strings were strummed clearly or were dampened or bent. If I am able to see one of them strumming, I can easily pick out the sound of their own personal instrument by the players movements and the way he/she is playing. It separates away from all the other instruments. That's what I am referring to.

      Good afternoon
      This instrument is Portuguese not Hawaiian, it's called "Cavaquinho", it was taken to Haway by Portuguese.
      You can see and hear it if you put in the You Tube search engine: "cavaquinho Kalinka Chico Gouveia", among other songs, just search for music by "Cavaquinho", you'll see how it sounds.
      Best regards.

      Dont worry, not including Kity Lux (who passed away after a long illness in 2017) there are 12 members listed on the orchestra's current website, but only 7 or 8 will be on stage at any one time. After 37 years touring, sometimes band members need to do other things or rest. The rarely seen David Bowie on Bass actually predates Jonty and is an original member from 1985.

      I never understand why anyone would write such a comment. Who does that benefit? Please explain, partly because it's baffling to decent people, and partly because these folk are incredibly talented and entertaining, but not clones of other members. For example, the free dancing was something you've never seen before, but you apparently didn't like it.
      I will never understand people making such horrible comments. And you're not 'sorry' or you would have removed the offensive comment.
