the instructions state: (for a different brand though and im paraphrasing)
-set duster on a newspaper for 24 hours prior to first use to absorb excess paraffin.
-the duster becomes "seasoned" after 2-3 uses. until then, it may leave streaks of paraffin wax. this is normal. use a micro fiber to get it off.
-the duster will perform better over time. the dirtier it gets, the better it works.
-DO NOT push down, or rub back and forth.
-DO NOT apply pressure (let the fibers do the work)
watching your video, you didn't appear to follow any of these 5 points. so that may explain the poor performance of the duster.
(i may sound like a spokesperson who works for the company lol, trust me im not)
I was going to scold you for not reading the instructions, but I see everyone else did. The California Duster is a great product if used correctly.
I've had my California Duster for 22 years, never washed it and it works so nice. I recommend the Duster to everyone who asks what it is.
I’ve had mine 10 years and works great! Never wash it and it says the dirtier it gets the better it works. Never had a problem with scratches
I totally understand where you're coming from. When you spen time to take care of your car the last thing you want to see after you wash it is dust
There's a lot of trees in my parking lot and they all blow pollen from off the leaves 🍂
I just bought a California Car Duster and it works amazing I think maybe you're pressing too hard the lighter you pull it across your car it's better try it again and you might get better results👌🏽
U are supposed to let the duster sit on newspaper for a few days to remove the excess wax..otherwise u will leave streaks...then u have to use it very gently..the tips of the fibers are supposed to lightly touch the paint..dont mash it down
Ibhavr to read the directions included..also should not wash it...
theory816 .The duster has special lubricant and wax is applied. From the factory. Do you want to let it sit a newspaper so it dries out somewhat so it will not smear all over your car. If they do not put in an access from the factory you will get a duster that is dry that’s why they load it with these chemicals. And also he was measuring the duster right onto the surface of his car which he’s not supposed to of course it’s going to scratch it. He supposed to very lightly damn gold the duster over the paint or the surface And then Dustin so he’s the one making the mistake not the duster’s fault.
I guess the instructions didn’t come in Braille? 😂
You just let it barely touch the paint, then shake it out. Don't wash it you'll remove the wax and it will lose it dusting ability. The dirtier it gets the better it cleans, just never apply pressure and just shake it out.
thats right,,the dude was using it so wrong ,,barely touch car...the dirtier they get the better believe it or not they clean better ,,,bad video...sorry
Thanks for the review. I feel you, it's a no go.
*Note- I could be wrong, but I wouldn't recommend putting the car matt on the "raw" ground like that when cleaning it. When you put it back in the car, it will bring extra debris with it ! (At the very end of the video)
I___s3v3n3o___I completely agree, I actually checked for dirt before throwing it back in the car. There was definitely some pebbles on it. Thanks for commenting and watching.
With that amount of dust and dirt the car should be washed!,,
yeah even if its every 6 hours
It's amazing how people don't read the fucking directions on anything - you don't want it send it to me I'll happily use it
Dude the California original Car Duster has carnauba wax and since you're pressing on to your car with it you are leaving Carnauba wax streaks
This video is a perfect example of how not to dust your car. You just created microscratches in your clearcoat because you pressed hard.
Looks like you might have to go in to reputable auto detailer, and have them apply some kind of PPF like SUNTEK or Opticoat. But first, they’ll have to do some “paint correction” to get rid of those scratches.
I had SUNTEK PPF applied on the bonnet, front bumper and front fenders as well as some other areas. Then I had the whole car covered in multiple layers of Ceramic Pro. Wasn’t cheap, but well worth the money. Five months into owning the car, no scratches or swirl marks yet.
Aves Raggiana it's good to hear that those applications truly work. I'm a big skeptic when it comes to that kind of work. I'm actually thinking about getting the car wrapped.... shhhhh still just a thought
This tells me you need to change out the furnace and air conditioner filters at least every 4 months to minimize the dust!
Terry Rodbourn it's a detached garage. No forced air going through it. Thanks for the suggestion though
getting severely roasted for using a car duster wrong.
Dude, you already had scratches. Recommend you go on-line to learn how to use the duster. Dusters are really good if you use them correctly.
Don't think those are scratches, and if they are they were there before. Read the instructions before use.
The swiffer duster is much more efficient and does not scratch the paint like the Cali duster. But you shouldn't rub any dry dust on any surface as it is similar as grinding paper.
Juan Munoz grinding paper.... the thought makes sense and it's painful.... makes sense. Thanks for sharing and commenting. Cheers
And also just by the video you were taking in your garage you can tell that there's plenty of dust floating around in that place so even if you dusted your Tesla with that Original California Car Duster it'll be back to it's dusty Glory within an hour or so. what you truly need is to get yourself a car cover for that Tesla.
Jorge Valencia yeah that’s what I’m thinking about doing. I have to be careful though. Don’t want to scratch the car installing and removing the car cover every day. Might just have to live with the dust and wash the car regularly lol... thanks for watching and commenting
If you did it everyday and picked up the smaller dust particles it wouldn't look like cornrows. The problem is, that you're attempting to pick up too much at one time.
It's not your paint that is showing scratches, but the clear coat. Buff it and then wax to repair the dusters scratches.
If you Sheetrock the walls and ceiling of your garage them paint it much less dust will collect that can be blown around when the door is opened. All those stud pockets will collect dirt, spider webs etc ... and all that collect s dirt and duct.
John Turner never thought about that.... you're absolutely right. Thanks for commenting and watching
I believe Teslas built up dust easily because of its electrical magnetic battery. I've had a Honda the same color as my Tesla, never had such dust built up so quickly. My friend said the same dust problem with his new Model 3.
User error. You scratched your paint because lack of education and not RTFM.
I've learned to never wipe a dusty car.
ClayDayz could of saved me the trouble lmao... just watch me fail, love it hahahhaa. Thanks for always watching my videos so fast.
Washington Tesla Pilot Hahaha. Trial and error right? You're welcome. I like seeing what you're up to with my future car.
ClayDayz join the wild side.... won't regret it. Had a buddy ask me if I would ever buy a gas car after owning an electric one.... no way!
Dude, read the instructions. You're supposed to let it sit on a paper grocery bag for a day or 2 to soak up the extra wax. The first few times it may leave lent as well but it eventually works better than the micro fiber ones and lasts forever....just saying
Lint not lent
This is what happens when you don’t read instructions. This product has been used for years. I had 1 30 yrs aga
Your pushing way to hard it's duster if you barley let the strings touch your veical
Complains about "scratches" from the CCD, then proceeds to rub his finger on the paint repeatedly 😬
congratulations, you just ruined your paint. You are not supposed to press the handle, or even just let it sits on the paint while you wipe it. you should just let the end of the fiber touches the paint, just like your finger touching your skin so lightly that you only feel the touch from your skin hair, not your skin itself.
Peter Gao ohhhh now you tell me lol.... thanks for watching and commenting
I would either add a clear wrap or let a professional detail and wax then buff out the scratches and swirls. I could be wrong but I don't think you're EVER supposed to wipe a dry car like that - you'll ruin the paint every time.
InfoZenn now you tell me lmao.... learn the hard way. Thanks for commenting and watching.
When I saw you press down on your paint I just cringed 😖 you’re gonna ruin your paint!!!! Even with the dry microfiber towel! If you’re gonna touch your paint make sure you have enough lubrication to avoid making micro scratches or swirl marks
Buff the car if it has scratchings
No easy outs... Dust is dirt, dirt scratches. The duster scratched it since it was the first tool used, the Microfiber clother buffed it because the dust was gone. If you want perfect you wil;l have to do allot more work then that.
⚠️Warning: Don't Try This at Home!
The more you use the better it works
U use it wrong !!!
The worse instructional video I’ve ever seen. Always important to read directions
That dust is like Islam we don't want it anywhere it shouldn't exist
You will blame yourself one day for saying that ... just remember my comment 👌
Only if we had a duster to remove Islam the whole world would be clean
Golf Foxtrot Yankee that is gonna scratch the whole world mate.
