The red symbolises a dream. The blue symbolises reality. In the end, the lady is blue but the red appeared in reality. Her dreams had taken over her reality.
red screen - represents a life she wishes she had, she’s dreaming of a life with power. This doesn’t necessarily portray narcissism as it then cuts to the blue screen - “i know all those things never happen”, she’s just a normal girl with a fantasy of dominance and authority. I think the video’s just saying everyone has these types of extreme desires but we don’t actually act upon them in real life, hence the “just imagine” intro
As somebody with manipulative day dream disorder. This is very relatable. Constantly daydreaming, refusing to accept they are all fake, and living a life of what I wish was real until it becomes reality and the lines of what is fake and what is real blurs.
I keep coming back to this song over the years becuase it’s the only song that can relate to me and somehow make me feel better, it’s the only thing I turn to other than not going to people I listen to music everyday as a means to keep me calm. But it obviously can’t fix anything unless I make my thoughts a reality like she did.
People are saying this is about feminism or self confidence but I feel like they are watching a different video. This is obviously a dream sequence as introduced in the beginning, noted by both the first sample (Just imagine a trip to a wonderful land...) and the first scene of the video. This video is about a person who dreams of money , power, clothing, and jewels... either because they don't have any or they don't have enough to satisfy them. This character dreams of be held up like a god - walking on people and controlling them with both chains and ropes. Ultimately this character does not care about any of these people around her as they are just objects within her fantasies. This video is not about feminism, nor is it about confidence. It is about pure narcissism and immense self-indulgence.
moltengrace this video just has all the signs of a sociopath and to those who think of dramatic sociopaths it's a no. Not all have bloodlust like those in the movies.
moltengrace ok well 1)little to no feelings shown ex: walking on bodies in her dream state, 2) lack of empathy ex: dropping guy, and stepping on others to get to where or what she wants, uummmm 3) manipulating others ex: people on chains doing what she wants, 4) superficial charm, ex: like you said being treated like a god. Idk what else :-/ but in all you got it down I just threw it together because it sounded much like it.
"I know all these things never happen I'm just a random girl with gentle manners If my dreams aren't rocked and I rule the wonderland" _These lines are _*_gold._*
An Account Made To Reply it means exactly what it says She’s a nice and quiet chick on the outside, but on the inside, she’s a badass, a queen of her own dreams
@@allonsyisabelli on the inside she's a drug overlord who kills black men, bathes in their blood, enslaves their wives and daughters. Tik Tok ruined that song
To respond to the whole ‘she’s a badass inside’ I think that’s a poorly handled idea. One has to act badass, as in do badass things. That person can have incredibly low self esteem, but if they do badass things, then they’re a badass. To be a badass on this inside is basically just self confidence, but it does nothing towards bezing a badass if you don’t use it.
This is about Narcissistic Personality Disorder. At 1:08, the 3 girls who demonstrate sexual desire leave, the curtain behind the protagonist falls and it reveals that... There's nothing there. She needs power over people to keep the curtain (the lie that she's somebody important) up, and when we see girls at her mercy again (1:44), they're keeping the curtain up with their own arms and hands. Narcissists need people to believe in the lie of who they are... Because they're empty inside. Without people believing in the lie that they're somebody grandiose, the lie doesn't stand up and it is revealed that there's nothing there. 0:47 There is not a defined bathtub here. She's bathing in the fuel/supply narcissists extract from their victims. Fuel is their lifeblood, and there's an aesthetical mix here between fuel and blood (it's both things at the same time). 0:42 She seems to fall... But she doesn't, because she's catched by people just to use those people like objects and let them fall; once used, she leaves them (empty of fuel). 1:41 If somebody suspects it's all a façade (the curtain is behind her and, behind the curtain, there is nothing)... she just shows disdain towards whoever suspects it. Might discard them later.
Years later, when I "discovered" this song and also Caravan Palace, I still come here so often, especially to listen to Wonderland. Simply because it is somehow special to me. Be it the melodies, the singing voice or everything together.
This is almost unfair. How the hell can other musical artists hope to compete with that? It's quite possibly a perfect song, along with a perfect video... even though it's perfectly mental! Amazing blistering grooves, clever-as-hell jazz/swing elements blended in the cleverest way possible, sultry, sassy sharp vocals, and with an actual message, rather than empty refrains. Mind, I love the whole album, but this track is my favourite. Can't stop playing it.
Listen, she did imagine a wonderful land. Every strong-looking man is now a corpse and all the girls are alive and apparently by her side. And honestly if you think about it, for an abused woman that might be wonderland.
Red: Her imagination, what she wanted, and what she could have Blue: her reality, that those things could never happen Purple: those two sides of her mind mingle, fragments of her imagination come into the real world. Eventually she can't take the bareness and boredom of her real life, and tries to bring her imaginary life into it, trying to keep her reputation high in other people's heads so she could trap them and reel them in like in her dream world, but she just ends up imprisoning herself.
I think I can understand that want a little bit, the feeling of control and being able to effect the people around you, especially for someone whose "A normal girl with gentle manners" there's always that little feeling in the back of your head .
I take it in a very similar manner, but in order to have control and have everything you want would require other people killing themselves for you or something of that sort. It’s a more twisted meaning I think. You’d want to be waited on hand and foot if you were in control and that would jeopardize everyone else’s happiness
I can tell that she is both a sadist and mistress but i think the other part of the story is her fantasies finally coming true in her own world, of sorts that is. idk tho lol
Tobi T-Rekt Ya what makes Caravan Palace distinguish themselves is that they use a lot of instruments for the sound, a really crazy effect in "Clash" is a modified trombone.
I see everyone saying their opinion on what the video means so here I go as well: I think It's about a girl who seeks control and dominance of everything and everyone, so she fantasises about it and her dreams prove too sweet (Linking to the theme of the wonderful land of candy) and then her fantasy overwhelms her sinking into her everyday life (Because of the colours being Blue for the real world and Red for the 'wonderland) and then her 'wonderland' proves to be something she doesn't wan't in the real world (Which is why she doesn't seem to be lying so calmly later in the video) she later chooses to embrace (Symbolised by pulling the people on strings in closer to her) she can no longer tell what's real her 'wonderland' or the blue world so she chooses to let the 'wonderland' consume her, which is why the video ends in red
I discovered Caravan Palace because of "Lone Digger", and I went straight to spotify to listen to their music and for how many weeks I only listened to electric swing songs. Seeing videos of their songs is like rediscovering them again, I'm glad I didn't go for the videos first haha

After watching the clip more vividly, I do not leave the mouse that the world of fantasy is a place where a person is surrounded by all the benefits, and against the background of a gray blue reality, she begins to transfer images from the world of dreams to the real world. Caravan palace wrote a story about schizophrenia 👏👏👏
She was daydreaming. The rest of the world fades away entirely but isn't replaced with another physical room, it's a nebulous limbo space because recreating another world isn't important to her, only the details that matter. She was briefly reminded that the real world exists, as if she woke up, but she doesn't have anything specific that she needs to do right then so she eventually re-enters her fantasy because it's more exciting than her real life. It's called Wonderland so she feels transported. Edit: I'd agree with you if her living room had shifted into a different room (maybe wealthier and/or bigger) instead of disappearing entirely. That's what clenches my interpretation.
I think that caravan palace are slowly making their way through different generations of music styles, starting in the 1950's and ending up in the 1970's, with this
Erhm, just a heads up, Electro-Swing is a modernized version of Swing. Swing comes from all the way back in 1920, so I guess we could say they started with the year I mentioned before.
This is the first song that made me fall in love with this band, and it will forever be a favorite. From the beautiful bets to some lyrics, it is amazing.
Stages of addiction to this song: 1. "Oh, look Caravan Palace song, better take a look at this" 2. "Nah, it's too weird." 3. "Well, maybe it deserves another chance." 4. "Nah, it's still pretty terrible." 5. "All up in the gut"-ing all night. 6. Strong addiction

I get the feeling that nobody in the comments has ever fantasized about being the God-Empress of Mankind, because it's pretty clear that that's what's going on in the video.
Notice how reality is blue and the "wonderland" is red. At the end she wakes up back into her blue (da buh dee da buh diii) world, but the red people from her dreams start turning up, then the background turns red again as she puts collars on them. I believe that she dreams of being a gang leader, then actually becomes a gang leader. Something along those lines at least. Also, HOLY SHAIT THIS IS 100x BETTER WITH HEADPHONES!

The way I see it she's straight up just daydreaming, perhaps to cope. The bridge and end are her saying "yeah, none of that really happens... but it'd be fun, though." She's just having fun.

Imagine if this was recreated in theatre. Not exactly everything but key parts to the music video. I always see the main girl dancing and appearing in her most signature moments. The set pieces moving the same as extras would be her “followers”.
so she's dreaming of being in control (especially over people) when in real life she's got no one around her. when it's blue, it's her real life... and red is her ideal. so I guess in the end when she wakes up in her blue room and red people begin to show up, as the scene slowly fazes to purple, then red, she's achieved her ultimate goal - control - in real life?
Idk about control in real life, the entire video displays attributes of narcissism from top to end, so I believe her desire of demand by people was fulfilled by those who seek her.
Kevin Gatica agree, i just mean that it wasn't always like that - it seems she is alone at first, then there is a sudden color change with a drastic difference, and she wakes up to an empty room again that slowly fills with people. at least that's how i thought of it
Emily Richards sometimes taking control means taking the say from others. like her slaves she has them on a leash to bring her up. she controls them and who ever brings in more will benefit her more. or you will be thrown to the pile just as swiftly as she caught you.
I believe that she is already in a total control of her life even at the start (in the blue part). I feel like it's a trip in the mind of a extreme narcissistic person, and those people are usually manipulative to no-end and like to be in control of everything. But they are just extremely hard to get friends with when you start to understand their real personalities. So she is alone, because people like that don't have real friends, they have slaves. She started daydreaming about her ideal life where even if people want to get away from here, they can't (the leash) and she is then free to be as manipulative as she wants (when she dances, her partners looks like marionettes, could be another reference to manipulation). All the money, the jewelry and the scene where she turn on herself, forcing her slaves to get closer to her, without any choice. She likes to be in complete dominance and want to crush anything that could oppose her (all the dead men bodies) coupled with violent sadistic tendencies (bathing in their blood).

Okay so here's my little interpretation. The woman appears to be isolated from other people and from the world outside of her apartment (since it is literally shown to be a box floating in nothingness.) To escape her loneliness she lies down and starts dreaming about her "wonderland", a dreamworld where she can do whatever she wants. There she lives out all her fantasies which include having a lot of money, having nice accessories like chains and rings and having people be around her constantly. However she doesn't dream of expressing any other desires than that of having ultimate control and power. It is only when the three woman (at around 1:08) float out of her grip that she decides to actually chain everyone up in order to force them to not leave her ever again. At some point though the woman wakes up again. Completely unsatisfied with real life she seems to begin to confuse real life with her dream (which could be demonstrated by how the walls of her room suddenly starts to slide up and down just like the small well did in her dream and how the people that appear in the room are coloured pink like her dream was.) She then continues to either leave real life again or start to make it become the dream. (I'm sorry if there are any grammatical errors. I'm still learning english) Also thank you for reading!
so there is a syndrome called: Alice in wonderland syndrome. i had it and it sucks. you feel like your body grows and goes small again. but not consistently. and you hallucinate too. i had to stay home from school for a few weeks because of it. and i would rater got to school then have that. i sometimes have light Alice in wonderland syndrome. only the growing and shrinking part. google it. it sucks.
Really I thought this was about sexual partners and the continuous patterns of people Continually sleeping with other people and the circle never end Because just because you have one person doesn't mean they didn't sleep with 14 people So if you have one person in your bed you're sleeping with more than just 1 person You're sleeping with every person that person slept with but that just me
@@aoyukinana i mean, is literally shows that the wants to be in the center of attention and being in charge of people, even killing them leaves her non touched. She is just there praised and being queen, dreams of it.
No way this is empowerment. But then you have the best explanation in the world, the good old "It's all just a dream" theory. It's like ~But I have actual evidence that suggest that... NO IT'S ALL BUT A FUKEN DREM LOL

This deserves to be noticed.
Thx dude :-)
moltengrace this video just has all the signs of a sociopath and to those who think of dramatic sociopaths it's a no. Not all have bloodlust like those in the movies.
I don't understand can you explain?
moltengrace ok well 1)little to no feelings shown ex: walking on bodies in her dream state, 2) lack of empathy ex: dropping guy, and stepping on others to get to where or what she wants, uummmm 3) manipulating others ex: people on chains doing what she wants, 4) superficial charm, ex: like you said being treated like a god. Idk what else :-/ but in all you got it down I just threw it together because it sounded much like it.

Every frame of this video could be on a T-shirt.

Dead bodies everywhere!
And she’s bathing in blood..
Listen, she did imagine a wonderful land. Every strong-looking man is now a corpse and all the girls are alive and apparently by her side. And honestly if you think about it, for an abused woman that might be wonderland.
Red: Her imagination, what she wanted, and what she could have
Blue: her reality, that those things could never happen
Purple: those two sides of her mind mingle, fragments of her imagination come into the real world. Eventually she can't take the bareness and boredom of her real life, and tries to bring her imaginary life into it, trying to keep her reputation high in other people's heads so she could trap them and reel them in like in her dream world, but she just ends up imprisoning herself.
I think the same thing too
That's actually kinda sick the way they used it like that.
I see,
I think that desire for control is what creates middle school bullies...
I can tell that she is both a sadist and mistress but i think the other part of the story is her fantasies finally coming true in her own world, of sorts that is.
idk tho lol
It does say that in reality she's "a -normal- random girl with gentle manners" when the screen alternates red and blue.
after many years of not listening to this song i have chills from every listen, for me caravan palace is a nostalgic core memory from the early 2010's
Really love how creative these music videos are and how the music is using actual instruments (I am lead to believe, might be wrong)
Tobi T-Rekt Ya what makes Caravan Palace distinguish themselves is that they use a lot of instruments for the sound, a really crazy effect in "Clash" is a modified trombone.
I think most artists use real instruments, but it's definitely more rare to hear a real brass section.
lol how'd i get 297 likes on this after coming back to this lol wat
have a look on theirs live videos. You'll have your answer :).
They're absolutely stunning live and use so many different instruments. Each member of the band is ridiculously talented.
I see everyone saying their opinion on what the video means so here I go as well:
I think It's about a girl who seeks control and dominance of everything and everyone, so she fantasises about it and her dreams prove too sweet (Linking to the theme of the wonderful land of candy) and then her fantasy overwhelms her sinking into her everyday life (Because of the colours being Blue for the real world and Red for the 'wonderland) and then her 'wonderland' proves to be something she doesn't wan't in the real world (Which is why she doesn't seem to be lying so calmly later in the video) she later chooses to embrace (Symbolised by pulling the people on strings in closer to her) she can no longer tell what's real her 'wonderland' or the blue world so she chooses to let the 'wonderland' consume her, which is why the video ends in red
I should be sad for my lack of a life
I think you've about figured it out, actually.
Why thank you sir
Damn, good interpretation, i was struggling with the end but i think you nailed it

There are some who said that it's about fantasizing things in a dream (based on some of it's lyrics)
Wow amazing
So like "Last Night in Solo"?
What is 'leave the mouse'?

I don't know which one to be addicted to, this or Lone Digger.

Some guy commented that "Some guy commented that "every frame of this could be on a t-shirt" like a year ago and I can't stop thinking about how amazing a feat that is" like a year ago and I wholeheartedly agree.
Completely unsatisfied with real life she seems to begin to confuse real life with her dream (which could be demonstrated by how the walls of her room suddenly starts to slide up and down just like the small well did in her dream and how the people that appear in the room are coloured pink like her dream was.) She then continues to either leave real life again or start to make it become the dream.

so there is a syndrome called: Alice in wonderland syndrome. i had it and it sucks. you feel like your body grows and goes small again. but not consistently. and you hallucinate too. i had to stay home from school for a few weeks because of it. and i would rater got to school then have that. i sometimes have light Alice in wonderland syndrome. only the growing and shrinking part. google it. it sucks.
indeed i have heard of it. i'm sorry.

hey, wow, a decent comment about the message of the song!
T-thanks
Really I thought this was about sexual partners and the continuous patterns of people Continually sleeping with other people and the circle never end Because just because you have one person doesn't mean they didn't sleep with 14 people So if you have one person in your bed you're sleeping with more than just 1 person You're sleeping with every person that person slept with but that just me

No way this is empowerment. This is obviously a manipulative, self-obsessed person who defends herself in a circle of people she has tricked into being on her side (see the last frame) who, once done with the men she sees no longer interesting discards them like waste. I love this video, it's very smart
i new a friend like that.
Maybe it's just a sexual fantasy.
+Eloise Tugwell she can manipulate women too. but yeah I agree on the open interpretive aspect.
But then you have the best explanation in the world, the good old "It's all just a dream" theory. It's like ~But I have actual evidence that suggest that... NO IT'S ALL BUT A FUKEN DREM LOL
i like how there is both genders present too, i kinda hate how most manipulation is typicaly portrayed against something a bit too specific, it's nice and varied in the video
as an adult male, this song makes me wish I was a boss ass bitch who just doesn't give a fuck about anything
There was a top comment that said exactly what you said as an explanation for the music video, except the adult male part.
