Hello. I’m a Japanese girl. A French friend of mine who is an anime-lover, told me I had to see this man’s videos. hello, i always find it fascinating when japanese people don't wear the fact that their country is also an animation and entertainment global power as a badge of honor. while japan is not massive in its scale, the amount of quality shows, movies and games that come out is massive. japanese culture gets to permeate the west through this influence and through touching the heart of more and more citizens and familiarize japan with them could not come as a disadvantage compared to the time of world war 2 where japan was picked as a grounds for testing the nukes instead of europe solely because it has not caused the world at the time as much grief as nuking europe would have. thats my take and im no expert but is surely interesting perspective to think about. just like religion, the spread of culture too can change the hearts of people and certain groups use this fact very, very consciously, pushing certain political agendas through all sources of media. these people have been at war culturally with japan for the past decade, increasingly so, trying to infiltrate anime too. in short, anime saves lives.
I love the scene where they just imagine what furniture they would put in the room. Other shows in this setting would make it depressing, because the characters can't live that way, but in this show it's just a beautiful moment that shows the girls just entertaining themselves with their imagination. This show makes it a point to not get bleak and shows people just constantly moving forward. The map guy and the airplane woman lost their live work, but instead of going crazy and get depressed they brush it off and march on. This is the kind of lifestyle I dream of when I think of the post-apocalypse. This is my favourite show right now and it might be one of my favourites of all time if it continues to be this good.
Legit finished Made in Abyss a month ago and decided to watch Girls Last Tour thinking it'd be dark. Well I'm on like the 3rd episode so far and am happy that after seeing an anime that literally traumatized me, I'm greeted by moe girls doing moe things in a post apocalyptic world.
Explaining Danganronpa to my Dad: A supermodel brainwashes her upperclassmen to be her slaves, causes the apocalypse and forces her classmates and sister to play a death game. My Dad: Sounds awesome! Explaining Death Note to my Dad: A bored teenager uses a supernatural notebook to kill criminals and become god while fighting someone who's essentially Batman with a giant sweet tooth. explaining what I'm watching to unsuspecting civilians: This girl is malcontent with being a deity so she uses her powers and commits suicide in order to protect the guy she loves and commit suicide again later.
Try actually explaining it to him without all the meaningless sounds that anime fans think of as Japanese. Then all you have to do is learn English instead of teen slang. Add a little bit of understanding that others are at a different point in their lives, and may find endless cartoon boobs and crotch shots boring, when compared to the real thing. Finally, loose the fanboy attitude where everyone who doesn't watch and enjoy your particular show is too stupid to live. These are some of the problems that I have found as someone has liked anime since the 60s, but wouldn't call myself an anime fan because I don't want to be that limited. It may be a little late, but the reason why you feel warm inside even though they are in such a terrible situation, may be because of how they see their situation. The way they see the world and how they enjoy it. The entire show is about learning to see the good in bad situations, and although they aren’t making bad situations for themselves. They are already in the worst situation possible. But they are ok with it. Finding solace in their world and accepting that they won’t live to see everything. Which is why it makes the ending so fitting...
YES. I AM NOT ALONE. Girls' last tour is fantastic. The girls are so engaging, so interesting in a simple way. I like to joke that Chiito is my kindred spirit, and Yurii is my boyfriend's, since we've been discussing our plans to move together, and literally the first thing I asked for was tons of bookshelves and he asked for a giant refrigerator. What I love is how the girls are so human and so real, even in a situation like theirs, since it's all they've known of, there's nothing to do but just keep going. The themes of knowledge and ignorance are so well explored. Like, at the end of the day, what's more important? Getting to know what happened to our world, or keep moving in order to maintain warmth and find food for another day.
The last 3 show ive watched have passed my expectations by a mile 1. Kill la kill, shid was down amazing 2. Nagatoro, surprisingly wholesome?? 3. Girls last tour, idk how to describe it but Damn, this shid good
The questions like: "what is chocolate?" Sounds ridiculous in almost every anime, but somehow, those questions have so much more meaning to them in this anime. Its really interesting
“We should learn to cope better with hopelessness.” During this COVID crisis, this series has affected me in ways that I can’t put into words yet. I’m trying to live the lesson that the girls lay out and find the good things day-by-day and not get hung up on what lies ahead.
This reminded me of how my depression renders me hopeless and how during my depressed episodes, doing anything I used to derive content from can mean absolutely nothing at the end of the day. When depression makes you not interested in things any-more, it literally feels like the whole world is deserted from life. Nothing matters. I'm simply existing rather than living.
In girl's last tour, the girls have clearly lived in that world their entire lives. They act as if it's simply life because it is. They don't care. Because life is a drug to us right now. If it changes heavily we want it back immediately. The only way we accept life for our standards is better. Those girls are used to it because they have lived in it and can't raise expectations because they experienced none. It's simply life for them. The anime is probably enjoyable because we are curious about their world. How they would survive and what their world is like. We don't always focus on characters but in that anime it's called "Girl's last tour". Perhaps this indicates that they are viewing the world one last time before it ends or they end. It could have a bad ending and there are definitely twists that could've ended badly such as the chocolate scene but in my opinion the anime won't overall give us a plot twist. Because the plot wasn't focused on the girls in the first place. It's on their current world. Notice how they teach you words at random times during the episodes? Those are not Japanese but their own language. The show may be decoded from these words but in truth we may never know. The only thing to do is to watch it and enjoy it.
The writing that Chii reads actually IS Japanese, the script is just modified slightly to look more "futuristic". You can also see lots of signs in kanji.
I love the ending from the anime so much, even if they revealed at the end how did the world becomes apocalyptic it wasn't the vocal point of it and nothing realizing about the world, they mostly learned about how much people there were before they were all gone, it strengthened their bond appreciating how they still have each other. even Chii said if the world ends she wouldn't care less if she still together with Yuu. It's really beautiful in a way.
I'm watching Girl's Last Tour, and it's a really interesting anime. There are some moments where I find myself crying and other times that I found the characters very charming.
Definitely one of my favorites from that season. Also very true that I couldn’t quite understand why I loved it so much. My best guess was the lack of narration and understanding of the world. We were learning things at the same pace as the girls, and that I feel gave me the same level of curiosity as them. Not sure how it works so well, but definitely worth the watch.
Thank you for talking about this show since nobody else is. Girls last tour might be my AOTS (along with 3-Gatsu no lion Season 2) and its good to see it get the attention it deserves.
Death: should i take him in episode 5 or episode 8 Hiroyuki Imaishi: maybe we shouldn't kill him senes is important to the stor- Kazuki Nakashima: nah episode kill him in episode 8.
Yes. Not many people would say it but the fans agreed that this series need to get recognized more. Except for the cancer side. Definitely not the cancer side. *shudder*

When I got into Animes a friend tried to explain to me what Mushishi is about. It sounded something like „There‘s this guy and he‘s walking through forests“ and I thought you could only enjoy it when you were stoned or something. xD
I am watching this show... And honestly it has became one of my favorites. I really agree with all you said about it and how it blows your mind. And also, I had the same weird feeling when I saw myself laughing at this. I am really surprised too that it hasn't had the credit that it should have. But for me, after all, it is 10/10. Yuuri best character ever..
Horror Comedy already exists, I mean sure there's dark humor which can be funny to some or outright horrifying to others, but a pretty good example would be Shaun of the Dead. While it is a parody, there are truly some sad and horrifying moments given that the two surprisingly go hand in hand when it comes to execution.
I never thought that someone would not appreciate this show . This show is a real masterpiece it actually give me some learnings like appreciating something even that you are in a bad situation..
Darth Anime:Did aki tell you what happened to this anime? Joey sama: She told me you ruined them. Darth Anime: No I am that Anime and I am amazing. Joey sama: NO THATS IMPOSSIBLE
Such a good anime! I love how they keep the message subtil, giving the viewers space to reflect and make their own minds about whats actually going on. Very sober and jet very powerful!
I had an idea for a post-apocalyptic anime. The main characters are 3 little kids wondering the world, somewhat like this anime. There are seemingly no other people in the world. But instead of them wondering what was life like before the apocalypse, they rather seek to simply explore and go on an adventure. As the series would progress, the backround would tell the story, rather than the characters. There will be a bunch of dead skelotens/swords in the backround, allowing the watcher to pressume a war had taken place. Durring their adventure, they happen to come across a cave. Inside the cave would be a seemingly old man in a medatative pose in the ground, in a very deep medatative state. The main characters would try to interract with the man but he wont respond, as though he wasnt concious. They decide to leave. Later in the story towards the end, the man will wake up and reveal the truth of the world. And also, the episode number would count down instead of up, the further you go into the story. So it would start at ep 20, then ep 19, then 17, and so on. It would be a work of art. I dont know im just brainstorming ideas here. I cant animate XD
Heya. Just asking for more detail of your ideas. What is the purpose of the episodes going backwards? Is this like watching a normal anime but starts with the latest episode and ends with the first episode? I don't see how that'll work, except if this is an episodic anime. But that is actually interesting concept, we go into depth of the background of the setting each episodes. Though I'm not sure how this will end up as a series.
When I see The Anime Man referencing one of my favorite games ever, Journey, makes me so happy! I recommend Journey to all sorts of players, it's a really relaxing and comforting game. The soundtrack is just stunning along with the gorgeous animation. I had so much fun with it despite being such a short experience.
Opinions differ, this is Joey's opinion. I respect it, but I'm not saying that it's a hundred percent right. And I can choose whether to agree to it or not. And backed with points and facts, he persuaded me. :)
I finally watched this show... I loved it... and sadly I think the genius of the show is the same reason it wasnt super popular and likely won't get a second season or ever be given the acclaim it deserves... but that being said... that seems pretty fitting. Those that get to enjoy it can be content with what it is and the others will simply miss out.
Inuyashiki and Mahoutsukai no Yome are my favorite non-sequels of the season. Speaking of sequels, I totally adore 3-gatsu no Lion S2 and Shokugeki no Soma S3. Let's not forget Hozuki no Reitetsu S2, an anime I didn't expect to get a sequel got one, damn.
And I don't know why, but even though it's episodic and chaotic af when it comes to storytelling, I'm loving Kekkai Sensen & Beyond much more than its first season.
Haven't watched Osomatsu-san yet so I can't really comment on its second season. But I've been told that it's another great show that needs to be watched.
I agree completely, after having seen the whole season. I am not a native english speaker speaker and was about to ask about the series mentioned here because I could not quite get the names, thanks so much for including them in the description!
I honestly think the ending to the manga isn't necessarily depressing. It's sad in ways, sure, but it also brings solid closure to the story and isn't distressed. I'm trying not to spoil anything, but I believe it was as perfect as the ending for this story could've been. If you liked the anime, give the last two manga volumes a go (the anime ends at the end of vol. 4). They are a great conclusion to a great show.
@@calvinchen4505 yeah, I find the same. It was the perfect closure. I don't find it depressing at all, even the girls say that living was the best. Lots of people completely misunderstand Girls Last Tour.
It's my favourite Anime of the Season for sure. I love how they convey space in depth, from the caves bellow to the sky above. You have two little girls who are exposed to this massive open world.
Waffles The Wookie I'm not a shamer, but I try not to do that. If it is this good I'll just get it on BR when it drops. But I do miss out on a lot because of that.
I'm not watching this yet but it has been on my "to watch"-list since i first heard of it. It's just a preference of mine to wait until all episodes are available to be able to bingewatch if i feel like it. But the described setting in itself made me want to give it a go and i'm just more motivated to take part in this if it really is an underrated show as you describe. Being underrated unfortunately means slipping under the radar for me as I usually never follow anime news, take part in lists of new series for the season or the likes.
tbh, i only watched because i saw the Kettenrad Halftrak on the wallpaper because im a big fan of WW2 and i am a Buff when it comes to historical W A R F A R E. i was confused watching it...
the way u describe it, it feels like a show that gives people strength since it has the lesson of "no matter how bad shit gets, the best way to deal with is optimism, hope, and determination" doing the best u can to make the best of everything. it gives people hope comparing it to their own demons and horrors in their lifes.
I think the ending of School Days was the perfect way to end the series. I would've been incredibly pissed if Makoto got away scot-free with all the shit that he did.
You didn't just give me serious flashbacks from 2014 when you talked about the Journey. I used to play that game like it was an drug for me. Might play again..
Just stumbled on your post here. I recently watched Girls Last Tour on Amazon, and I was blown away. I agree that it shouldn't work. My kid and I have fallen in love with the opening and closing songs, but she literally shouted that she doesn't know why she likes them when she hasn't even watched the show. But when she asked me why I like this show so much, articulating it made things clear. I like the girls. The girls are going to die, horribly. Starvation, exposure, poison or radiation, there is nothing good that's going to happen. They're going to die, and they don't understand. They don't understand anything. And the ultimate urge I get from watching is, that I desperately want to help them. Amazing reaction to a cartoon. Kudos to everyone involved in making it.
Maybe you should look for clues. Year is somewhere after 3200 War started it all. Look at the bottom right when they open up the camera. It says the date and time. 24-hour format though.
Coming up with a synopsis of a story on the Spot and crafting a compelling narrative out of it is one of the great Skills a Good storyteller should posses
I LOVE this show! The beauty when the protagonists smile when dying/sacrificing/desperate is the BEST! I smile when watching, but end up being sad after thinking about it.

Glad to see this show get some love. Mother's Basement mentioned it in his video on whats in this season and I jumped on. It never fails to make me smile. The setting makes me always have a guard up. During this COVID crisis, this series has affected me in ways that I can’t put into words yet. I’m trying to live the lesson that the girls lay out and find the good things day-by-day and not get hung up on what lies ahead.
That dab in the OP though

The dab of dabs

This reminded me of how my depression renders me hopeless and how during my depressed episodes, doing anything I used to derive content from can mean absolutely nothing at the end of the day. When depression makes you not interested in things any-more, it literally feels like the whole world is deserted from life. Nothing matters. I'm simply existing rather than living.
I hope your doing alright 🇯🇵🇯🇵🇯🇵

I loved this show. I'm finding myself rewatching it over and over for comforts.

Yeah! Gem girls! My man....
No. You just want a fuckable rock.
I see you are a man of taste
Jet Enryu who doesn't? Of course these are genderless so probably not much to fuck lol
Anime man: horror comedys wouldn't work very well

Ericonator same. Same.
Yes. Not many people would say it but the fans agreed that this series need to get recognized more.
Except for the cancer side.
Definitely not the cancer side. *shudder*
I LOVED girls last tour! It made me think, and I like anime that makes me think.
I tried explaining Kill la Kill and Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann to my friends...
It didn't go as well as i thought it would...
No need, the first thing they said when i showed them an image of Kill la Kill was boobs. It was a perfectly matched coral.
Sobrinho Óbvio BOI I TRIED TO EXPLAIN JOJO'S AND YOU CANT EXPLAIN JOJO'S WITHOUT SPOILING THE WHOLE FIRST TWO ARCS
I explained then like this
Kill la Kill:(1st part) Girl fights a lot while being almost naked.
(2nd part)Also some plot.
TTGL:(1st part)Never fucking forget.
(2nd part)ROW ROW FIGHT THE POWER!
(3td part)Dude kicks the logic to the curb and DRILLS THE HEAVENS!
Seems legit
Why would anyone try explaining anime to their friends in the first place? That is, unless you're masochistic, then it's pretty normal.
When I got into Animes a friend tried to explain to me what Mushishi is about. It sounded something like „There‘s this guy and he‘s walking through forests“ and I thought you could only enjoy it when you were stoned or something. xD
Mushishi is definitely NOT an anime to binge. It took me, like, six months to watch the whole thing. Think of it as The Witcher with less gutting.

Scream for example.
Also, Cabin in the Woods
When I try to explain Assassination Classroom to someone...
Pft same lol
children trying to kill an octopus, that's it
What the hell does assassination classroom have to do with girls last tour? Xd

Joey actually made a Girls Last Tour video, and I only see it now.
I find the last two episodes of Evangelion much easier to explain than the entire FLCL series.
Evangelions ending is clear as hell.
Congratulations!
+holy sauron Clear but still weird as hell.
Bryce Jonathan Gosh darn it.
Gracilda T As if it were counting down towards something. It would possibly create a feel of suspense
Ramsey Ali kinda reminds me of Made in Abyss
Jimin's left should hm lol
Write a Light Novel. 1/3 of Animes are based on these.
So conflicted. Clean shaven Joey is hella cute, but it's Movember dude.
This anime is basically Minecraft survival mode
Girls Last Tour is the best season. No doubt! Made in Abyss Vibe of the season.
have you seen I'm inuyashiki? that's the best for me this season
Houseki No Kuni is the hidden gem of the season and Ancient Magus Bride is looking to be the best.
Watching girls last tour during 2021 felt like it was just a slice of life
Joey looks young again lol
I agree completely, after having seen the whole season.

I'm watching episode 12 today. I'm scared now.
Unless you mean the manga ending, then I'll be fine for a little while longer.

You want to know why no ones talking about it? Two words: Anime Strike.

Same happened to Made in Abyss... Best anime of Summer and Fall seasons respectively (IMO)

Waffles The Wookie I'm not a shamer, but I try not to do that. If it is this good I'll just get it on BR when it drops. But I do miss out on a lot because of that.
Waffles The Wookie What app do you use? I can't seem to find this anime anywhere.
Mitchell Woroniecki Girl's Last Your and Inuyashiki are the only reasons I'm still using Anime Strike rn

I know right he just ends up shaving in the middle of it.
I guess Joey forgot?

He can't afford to not shave. Blame Google.
Maybe he doesn't care about mens health? :)
the way u describe it, it feels like a show that gives people strength since it has the lesson of "no matter how bad shit gets, the best way to deal with is optimism, hope, and determination" doing the best u can to make the best of everything. it gives people hope comparing it to their own demons and horrors in their lifes.
I think the ending of School Days was the perfect way to end the series. I would've been incredibly pissed if Makoto got away scot-free with all the shit that he did.
Sande Found the "bad end" fan.
Not every story needs to have a perfect happy ending with every character redeeming themselves.
+Sande Almost no anime has a happy ending. The only one I saw that did was Eureka Seven. And even there the manga ended on a downer.
Sande
i place the blame of all the shit that happened in that show on sekai i hate her with a Passion
Sande agreed
24 days into 2021, this is exactly the kind of show I need to put my existence in perspective.
it's called iyashikei and it's art

Glad to see this show get some love. Mother's Basement mentioned it in his video on whats in this season and I jumped on. It never fails to make me smile. The setting makes me always have a guard up. You have to do a review on Houseki no kuni.
I don't think he watched it yet, and it's not on his PTW either. That's the problem. Best shot is if people keep mention it enough he'd be compelled to give it a go.
