@handrii2958apparently he helped coined the term crusades too during his war against Licinius. But that’s just what I’ve read.
Constantine has got to be one of the most important people ever.
He had made Christianity a major religion and helped save Christians from being slaughtered.
Constantine I the Great is one of those hinge characters in history, one who cannot be ignored, either for his military and administrative achievements or his radical change in imperial policy, as well as being one of the last effective reunifiers of the already dying roman empire (if it is understood from the beginning of its increasing decentralization and loss of material capacity), without forgetting that, if it were not for him, perhaps Christianity would not be what it has become today, for better or for worse .
And although we loved your video of Aureliano (a character for whom we have great affection in the Temple) for his similar achievements, he has a huge sense of the greatness that this character had, as well as how impressive he was in the scheme historical.
Congratulations on creating such great content! We will be sharing it.
Thank you for your kind words, both to me and Constantine, and thank you for your support!
Dying empire is a big stretch. The empire was not in its prime for sure but had seen way worse times under the third century crisis and by the time of Constantine things were stable once again.
@@lorenzodavidsartormaurino413 Rome had been dying since the late republic. It was only the integration of the frontier provinces and the leadership of select Roman emperors that Rome had survived until the 5th century collapse.
@@garrettjohnson343 Wow that's a weird opinion if I ever saw one. To say that the Roman empire was already dying before The Pax Romana and the golden ages it would experience under augustus and the five good emperors really seems incorrect.
@@lorenzodavidsartormaurino413 I am more talking about the underlying cultural generational psyche collapse that culminated in the Severen dynasty and tumbled into the end of the western half of the empire. It is hard to explain since its a culmination of factors, but the average roman from the time of the early republic unto the late republic were different in values and rational scope. The energy that drives civilization was fading since the late republic. That is to say that Rome's territorial economic or military's might was peaked in the late republic IS wrong. The will of civilization was carried by phenomenal emperors from the Julio-Claudian dynasty until the Antonino period.

Underrated emperor... everyone always talks about Augustus, Marcus Aurelius, Aurelian, Trajan And Hadrian but they always exclude Constantine
@Makuta S-V EXVRGE . MARS . MARS . VLTOR . ROMA . ET . IMPERATOR
He is greatly overrated, even his title of "the great" seems too much for a man who achieved so little. His reforms were a continuation of Diocletian's ones (specially in the military), and his reunification of the Empire can't be compared to Aurelian's, everything he do could've been achieved by anyother usurper, like Maxentius.
He's just over-praised by ancient, medieval and modern christian historians for making christianity the official religion, and that after ignoring Constantine was a pagan for most of his own life, even he depicted himself in statues as Sol Invictus during his "christian era".
Thanks to his religious reforms, another usurper like him, Theodosius, banned all other religions based on christianity's intolerance, which gave the Empire lots of social uprisings, the death and censorship of many philosophers and artists and a turbulent political climate that Theo's own sons couldn't handle without great costs.
Aswell as establishing 2 powerful churches who would be atrocious for Europe for centuries to come
@@DiocletianLarius "The Man who took up the mantle stripped from Alurian by the betrayal of his soldiers. Reconquered all of Rome. Founded Constantinople, the second Eternal City. And caused The Mass Spread of Christianity, allowing for western culture to become the beacon of civilization and advancement. Doesn't deserve the title of Great."
You alright in the head bro?
@@bobross9581 Alurian? You mean Aurelian? Lmao, Constantine took up the mantle of Diocletian in any case (specially the military reforms), Aurelian was long dead by then.
Again, you are overestimating him, he was an usurper like the other 900 wannabe emperors, he founded a fortified city in a well stablished trade route, so what? He didn't make Constantinople the way it eventually was going to be, he didn't build the Theodosian Walls, nor the Walls of Blachernae, Constantinople and the Byzantine Empire is the end result of centuries of good and bad emperors.
Explain to me how different would've been if the Empire was reunified by somebody like Maxentius.
The mass spread of christianity actually destroyed lots of ancient knowledge, buildings and even people. It was a huge regression in tech, philosophy, science, etc. that cost Europe various centuries of "darkness". Advancement is the church burning books and the Inquisition torturing "heretics" who were nothing more than other christians of gnostic or just slightly different beliefs, oh, what a beacon of civilization!
Europeans could only achieve a real progress after the Renaissance, when Byzantine scholars shared the pagan knowledge and Westerners rejected the Church and started the Age of Enlightenment. Even then the christians managed to start killing each other once more, with the Reformation wars, truly a religion of love and peace.
Christian barbarians are no better than the muslims, and we don't even know if Constantine was really a christian, he surely used them for political reasons but he kept being represented till his very end, in statues and coins as an avatar of Sol Invictus. It wasn't till Theodosius that true christians ruled the Empire, and Theodosious himself prove it by banning all other religions and sending the christian mobs to destroy or sack pagan temples and houses
@@DiocletianLarius All the emperors after Constantine were Christians, and they made the chi rho sign the official symbol. The Eastern and Western Emperors were also Christians, Constantine perhaps did not really believe, his sons and subsequent emperors considered the new rome to be christian.
