I was lucky I learned reloading before the internet, so had to find a mentor. To many guys looking for shortcuts on the internet!!

This video is exactly what I've preached on the high-power range for decades. I know of a guy who pushed his 600 yard loads until the primer blew, then backed off 1/2 grain. Lunacy. Thanks for this very well advised video.

Most Kyle’s I’ve met have all the stories of elk that died at 1200 yards+, twice in the heart from a 6.5….. but oddly no one ever has pics or vids to prove it…

Great video. So much of the stuff I see on the net is BS. I never use any of that data. I use published load data from the usual suspects and start from there. My 6.5 CM likes 140 loads around 2750. That's where I get my best groups. Keep up the good content and your reloading and shooting setup is a DREAM!

That was funny, scary and awesome. I’m going to go with another car analogy- you cannot run your stock Ford Mustang as a NASCAR vehicle, it will blow up. You probably don’t want to run your Indy car in a NASCAR race, it’s the wrong tool for the job. Reading actual manuals is a problem (RTFM we call it). Everyone wants the google answer. I’m working on being one of Greg’s 5%; becoming educated, gathering data, books, tools and equipment and then doing the work. Thank you Greg for sharing.

Seems to me these days people are after instant gratification. Whats the best load for X caliber with Y bullet? And they run with it. When I built my 308 I rember spending hours talking to vsrious people on different forums, including yourself Greg, and I got responses like this. Where do you live, what are temps like, what are you wanting to do, i would recommend these powders and these bullets and weights. Get a good reloading manual and start at the minimum or slightly above it, load 5 rounds per charge weight and go out and shoot. With the key being your rifle will tell you what it likes. I bought multiple powders and multiple bullets and weights and did 300yd ladder tests followed by an ocw test just because I was new to load.development. I appreciated everyone that was willing to feed me powders and bullets to try and recommend I load up to the max load. It scares me to see so many people chading velocity and recommending dangerous loads to people that dont know better. Please keep up the good work Greg and continue to offer honest, truthful advice and training.

These boisterous projectile speeds that are being thrown out in the forums and on RUclips really need to be called out like you just done. Someone who's new to reloading will inevitably keep pushing and pushing until a bad thing results. I always tell folks to get a few manuals and stay within the confines of the powder margin. No substituting. Unless you are absolutely 100% sure that you are safely testing and know what you're doing. Good job Greg and it was very funny as well 🤣

Funny video. I have a load recipe for my 270 Winchester 145 grain ELDX that are pushing 3207 feet per second out of a 24 inch Barrel Weatherby with a .315 sub MOA grouping. Verified by 2 seperate chronographs and 2 eye witnesses. This Recipe is 1.7 grains below Max charge. I've been a Ballistician for over 50+ years. I've developed loads for dozens of cartridges. The 6.5 creedmoor is a great target cartridge. But many of us old timers as we're called have been beating it for many years. I've been watching many young people here on you tube over the years using the wrong powders and so under loading their cartridges it's actually funny. Currently I'm building a 270 Winchester with a 28 inch Barrel with a 1-9 twist. It will easily stabilize 170 grain bullets. I may or may not be using heavier pills like that because I have larger caliber Rifle's for that job. But this is an experiment. Due to the current political spectrum for several years now we're being forced to come up with alternative ways for reloading. 2900+ FPS for a 140grn 6.5 creedmoor is really moving. But based on my experience it's hard to acheive and frankly I doubt it's possible Especially if you want accuracy. i know what you mean by Kyle's out there on You Tube. I simply refuse to deal with them. Keep up the good work. I really like your videos.

My 6.5 creedmoor is most accurate with 41.5 grns of H4350. This runs out of a 24 inch bbl at about 2750 fps...This is what i consider max. Even with this load primer pockets on my large primer nosler brass starts to ge loose after abour 6 firings

The fact that this is prevalent is a scary thought. Add on to that the fact that there is brass out there now, like the Alpha OCD, that can take crazy high brass without showing signs of pressure-this could easily be a recipe for disaster.
When I bought my first batch of OCD brass, the guy I was speaking to told me about how they had taken a 6.5 creedmoor up past 2900fps with a 140 and no signs of pressure. This is impressive and everything, but still scary stuff. I enjoy my face as it is, so I have no intention of loading past a reasonable pressure.

Thank you for spreading the message of moving on to a different cartridge if higher velocity is your goal. The idea of visiting a range you share with other persons with potentially dangerous ammunition is unfair in the worst of ways to people around you and the staff at the range.
On a personal note, I have rarely found an accuracy node at or near maximum loads published in load manuals, the only resource I trust, liking the way my face is arranged as of now and all!!!
Thank you sir for your wonderful videos that educate with clarity and eloquence.

I usually max out 41-41.3gns of 4350 on my 6 Creed on anything 107-110. I mean, dang, that's moving out of a 6. 42.5 is absolute lunacy. Surely, that dude just understand what he's saying. I wonder if he is confusing Accurate 4350 with H4350, but that doesn't get him anywhere near the 3200fps MV he's claiming. My guess is either his chrono is jacked up or he has it set incorrectly. I've seen guys work backwards off e-targets at 100yds to try and determine MV. I always tell em, well that's not gonna be super accurate since some bullets can lose upwards of 300fps in the 1st 100 yds. Great video. BTW, loving my Primal Rights primer seater and the digital indicator. I have definitely gained accuracy with it!

Just to echo on your less is more philosophy…My findings in over 6000 test and comp rounds fired is as follows: Howa 6.5 CM 24” BB.(on my 2nd barrel and still going)… Lapua cases (LRP). Hornady 147gr ELD-M. H4350. I found the best node to be on the lower end of the scale on 40.4 gr seated to lands minus 30thou. Avg speed was 2720. (Last test was done with 20 rounds per charge weight) I went as high as 41.4 gr with avg speed 2820. There I played around with seating depth from touching the lands to lands minus 60thou. The only difference I found was that speed decreased a little the deeper the bullet was seated. (approx 40fps) The 20 shot groups were a little bigger as well. I settled on the lower node as the groups were smaller, the ES was better, and my zero had less dispersion. My barrel will last longer, so will my powder and my cases…Each to his own I guess…And on the lower node I found that changes in seating depth did not affect the accuracy much, neither did small changes to charge weight. No need to even try and go higher. Which also means I could go 100 rounds without even having to worry about throat erosion…and just shoot!

He said he's been reloading for decades, probably true.
We started talking about shooting long-distance. I brought it up cuz i havent attempted anything over 100yards yet. He starts telling me about a buddy who shoots 1k yards alot. He said 1k yards is soo difficult that his buddy wheres the same socks, pants and shirt anytime he goes out to shoot 1k yards, making sure everything is the same as the last time he shot at 1k....lol. Now im not experienced at all but i burst out laughing inside....lol
