But otherwise it's very poor behavior to just eat a lot of food for that small fee. If they would order lots of beers or a bottle of wine, that would allow the restaurant to still make a profit, but usually these competitive eaters just have the free water.
Amish cooking is absolutely amazing. I grew up in a small town with a huge Amish population, the bakeries were amazing! Also, Der is pronounced Dair, like Dairy, it's German :) Fun Fact, the Amish are referred to as Pennsylvania Dutch because the word for Germany in German is Deutschland, so they thought they were saying they were Dutch when they were actually German :)

Ok, I normally watch your challenge videos and think “huh, looks good, I’ll try it one day”- but this one legit made me *jealous* . Everything looked so good, and I wish I could live in that buffet.
Florida is SO known for their Amish. I live in South Central PA, and am well acquainted with Dutchie food. This makes me want to go there and see if it's as advertised. Incidentally, pickled anything is a hallmark of Dutchie food. 3 Bean salad, Chow-chow, Cucumber Onion salad, Haystack salad, for a few. As well as pickled meats, and other veggies. If you don't like pickles, you won't do very well at a Dutchie table. Should you want to visit PA, there is a very PA Dutch buffet called the Shady Maple Smorgasbord in East Earl PA, in Lancaster County of course. Although there are many genuine PA Dutch eateries, Shady Maple is highly recommended. Oh, if it's your birthday, your meal is free.

Finally, someone that likes cottage cheese on their salad. 😬 My whole family thinks it’s just weird but looks to me that they’re the ones missing out. I usually put a big clump on the side with black olives and eat it with my salad. Sooo good!

And the baked goods they sell at their stalls roadside...omg, like nothing you’ve ever tasted! Come visit one day! You won’t be disappointed! Especially with the peanut butter whoopie pies and Shoo Fly Pie (my favorite!)

If you’re ever in Lancaster PA-there is a place called Miller’s- absolutely the best Amish food I’ve ever had. I’ll need to take a ride over to Sarasota to check that one out

I have eaten at the Dutchman and at Yoders just up the street. They are good. You want a mind/stomach blowing Amish experience, come to the Shady Maple Smorgasbord Experience in Lancaster County, PA. Running full bore, they can feed 1200 people with no problem with a variety of food that is just nuts! I especially love their sweet potato pancakes in the morning buffet!
If you're ever in the Lancaster, PA area, check out Miller's Smorgasbord about a half hour east of Lancaster. It's similar in style to this buffet here, and I'm sure you'd enjoy it, since Lancaster is right in the middle of Amish country in eastern PA.
We have a lot of Amish communities in the central/northern NY areas. A lot of families have little stands by the road with homemade goods they sell. It's generally on the honor system, they don't have someone there all the time, and don't put prices on anything. My rule was I would pay twice what I thought it would have cost in a grocery store or bakery. I always stop when I see one. Canned vegetables, fresh homemade bread, and pies. Oh my sweet baby Jesus the pies. Apple, blackberry, blueberry, lemon meringue, you name it. I've never had anything that wasn't amazing from any stand I've found, and you know they're not using canned ingredients, it shows. They know their food. We also have an Amish store in the area that makes their own deli meats. If you've never had any nice smoky Lebanon bologna, you're missing out. We'd always buy extra, along with a loaf of bread and some mustard, just so we could make sandwiches right there in the parking lot.
Katina - I didn't know about Der Dutchman in Sarasota, so I appreciate the heads up. BUT if you want next level Amish food, plan a trip to Lancaster PA where there are THREE Amish restaurants all within a couple miles radius of the town. Lancaster PA is worth the trip!!

Heads up that bread pudding is made from old bread and old donuts...most of the time the bread is moldy...I live right down the street from a Der Dutchman and they are all the same...and their sides are thrown back in the pans if they think you didn’t eat touch them on your plate

I went to Yoders Amish Buffet in Lancaster County, PA. My most favored dish was the ham balls. They are softball sized, made of chopped ham and glazed with crushed pineapple. Baked to perfection and devoured while still hot!!!!!
Oh honey, used have amish neighbora all around me growin up, they are amazing cooks, they grew strawberries 🍓big as your fist..and we always got to go to there big baking events where they all get together and feast, and sell pies and desserts, their schoolhouse was on our back 40..so they were always around and I miss them..neighbors arent the same anymore..lol missouri here.. Idk if they have any challenges, “Betts Big T” in Chiefland, FL does have this all you can eat seafood special on Fridays and Saturdays. Shrimp, fish (catfish I believe) and crab. There may be an extra charge on the crab, I can’t remember, I’ve only been one time a year ago. The fish and shrimp were definitely very good. Definitely recommend if you two ever get around that area.
You want a good Amish Buffett…go to Maple Shady Buffett in East Earl, PA. It’s supposed to be the biggest Buffett in the USA. Priced right too, less than $20 unless you go on the seafood night and/or prime rib night.

I don't know, I live in western New York, close to Amish country, and I've never seen a buffet like like that. Road side baked good stands are the order of the day. Must be southern Amish do it up a little more :) Looks fantastic. You should show off your ink a little. You just gave a few glimpses.
The Shady Maple is another Pa. Dutch style all you can eat buffet in southeastern Pa. The place is very popular and has endless selections and all for one price. I’m not a big eater but have been there and it’s very good.
The jellied beets are AMAZING!!! If you didn't get those, you have to try them the next time you go back... I have eaten at der dutchman for dinner and for breakfast, and neither service disappoints!!!
Part of the secret to great Amish food and it's not good it's great is the freshness and lack of preservatives (chemicals I can't spell) and the cooks fill it full of love
Its not real Amish if they are using electricity. Maybe they are just using the dutch thing to attract customers but its really cooked by the English 😧
To stretch your tummy out without ANY calories, just drink 1 gallon of cool water. Not cold. Cold shrinks, warm stretches even more.... That food looked so good1
Amish is mostly in midwest in ohio and Pennsylvania! If u don't live in the midwest u probably don't know but its homestyle German American food! Der Dutchman chain Amish style here in ohio! I grew up on it and the largest population is here in ohio! Large part of our tourism! We call it Amish country!
Shady Maple in Lancaster county, Pennsylvania is the largest buffet in the country. You would love it there and there are many great restaurants in the area.

Idk if they have any challenges, “Betts Big T” in Chiefland, FL does have this all you can eat seafood special on Fridays and Saturdays. Shrimp, fish (catfish I believe) and crab. There may be an extra charge on the crab, I can’t remember, I’ve only been one time a year ago. The fish and shrimp were definitely very good. Definitely recommend if you two ever get around that area.

You want a good Amish Buffett…go to Maple Shady Buffett in East Earl, PA. It’s supposed to be the biggest Buffett in the USA. Priced right too, less than $20 unless you go on the seafood night and/or prime rib night.

I go to Sarasota probably twice a year (I live in Tampa). I always stop at Der Dutchman for lunch or dinner. Great choice!

I don't know, I live in western New York, close to Amish country, and I've never seen a buffet like like that. Road side baked good stands are the order of the day. Must be southern Amish do it up a little more :) Looks fantastic. You should show off your ink a little. You just gave a few glimpses.

The Shady Maple is another Pa. Dutch style all you can eat buffet in southeastern Pa. The place is very popular and has endless selections and all for one price. I’m not a big eater but have been there and it’s very good.
The jellied beets are AMAZING!!! If you didn't get those, you have to try them the next time you go back... I have eaten at der dutchman for dinner and for breakfast, and neither service disappoints!!!

Amish is mostly in midwest in ohio and Pennsylvania! If u don't live in the midwest u probably don't know but its homestyle German American food! Der Dutchman chain Amish style here in ohio! I grew up on it and the largest population is here in ohio! Large part of our tourism! We call it Amish country!

Shady Maple in Lancaster county, Pennsylvania is the largest buffet in the country. You would love it there and there are many great restaurants in the area.
I visited Amish country once when i was young. THE FOOD... "thanksgiving everyday" is exactly right.
You should try the shady maple smorgasbord in East Earl, PA. It’s the largest buffet in the US. Over 200 feet long.
