Well, we knew this would be controversial… However, in the modern age, competitive shooters, (who actually have a chance of winning these matches) are working up their loads with the aid of LabRadar chronographs and automatic powder dispensers that can measure down to the 1/100th of a grain and these are all tools that the old timers never had available to them. The notch of these sticks doesn’t really offer any advantage over traditional cross sticks other than ease of adjustment. For many shooters however, the Quigley is a chance to dress up like an old timer and shoot. Everyone gets a different experience at the Q.
Love your videos and I am thrilled to see the Quigley still thriving. My two cents on the new sticks. I think they are too complicated. The game was supposed to be kept simple. This should mean the sticks too. I shoot my local match using a couple broom handles cut for heigth and a leather cradle on top. Take nothing I say to heart as this is my opinion ONLY. Again hope everyone had a good time and a safe match this year. Hope you bring us some more videos of the match.
I’ve got a couple more videos of the Quigley that I’m going to put up. What I wanna do though is start concentrating on the other matches that take place around the country. Everyone knows about the Quigley and so they got 575 shooters again this year. There’s other really good matches around the country that don’t get that many mostly because nobody’s heard of them.
Enjoy your videos and content. I am one of those who would benefit from being introduced to other less well known matches. Thumbs up on that idea. With all the load testing you do, I would love a video on your thoughts about relative importance of the various loading steps with regard to accuracy. In other words, which steps give the most return on time/effort investment. It would really help newer shooters get going without getting stuck in the weeds.

I have both and use them. The beach model works extremely well. Definitely eliminates and safety issues.
