You know this isn't a true story because Alan Moore has never been 23 years old: he just materialised into our world one day, full wizard beard and fiery eyes, to regale us with tales we did not know we needed.
Alan Moore lives quite near me in Northampton. I've seen him quite few times. He's friends with the father of a friend of mine. Lovely guy and hugely intelligent and talented.
He’s released a number of wonderful spoken-word recordings, including ‘Angel Passage’, ‘Snakes and Ladders’, and ‘The Highbury Working’. Worth seeking out, IMHO.
You see, English is not my first language, and while I can read it and speak it with relative ease, this poem was far too complex and too quickly told for me to understand fully what was going on. And yet, I was completely hypnotized by it, at a certain point I even forgot to try to understand it. Absolutely captivating, that must be the rhythm he was talking about before, right ? It seems you don’t need to understand it to feel it, brilliant
I think you understood it better than most. I'm a native speaker myself and didn't know enough of the context behind the poem to know what it was about until I saw the poem told again in the form of a comic, but Moore's recital still drew me in.
As an inspiring poet I have to say I'm amazed - I didn't realise Moore wrote poetry, and certainly wouldn't have expected such rich and accomplished work. Now I have to get into his work. I'm considering this course. Amazing.
I assure you he is one of the literary “greats” of our time. His work in the media of comics may have soured critics against him, which is problematic in and of itself, but the man can WRITE.
Hypnotic, from the beginning to far beyond the end ... Still can hear the silences of his voice spreading out on my unconsciousness...I will come back again and again through the years to feed my very soul with his music...until I will hear all but words...thank you M. Moore.
Unspeakably moving. So good to see you here I'm at a loss for words. Thank you Alan. For everything you've ever done. Thank you BBC. I can't think of anything else to say other than: I'll never forget it; this. 😇
Such a beautiful reading and reintegration with his own work. No one can't ever say this wasn't perfect riding. And that it's because he believes that.
Amazing ! Thanks for that, Alan! You say - 'The one place gods inarguably exist is in the human mind' ...yes, and YOUR mind is special place, full of gods ! We worship them, because they are UNIQUE ! Your gods .... are Extraordinary Ladies and Gentlemens!
It's a damn good idol to have my guy! Take care, it's easy to give up on things such as reading and wrting nowadays (I've done it myself). Hope you find a way to keep your dreams and passions alive !
