I got meet Matt at a small Catholic Church he held a concert at! I was in high school at the time. After high school and strayed away from the catholic religion and lost my way quite horribly. But about 2 years later I regained my faith and a relationship with Christ and now currently as you can see in my profile picture I am using my musical gift that God has given me to glorify his name but Matt Maher it’s so good to hear you sing this song after so many years 👏🏼

Matt - I'm 64 years old and have been a Christian for 45 of those years. Strong believer involved in ministry. But when I hear the words, "O hell, where is your victory?", I'm SO tempted to flip the devil off! One time I did. Not in church thankfully!!! 😃

Behind the Song
Matt Maher finds inspiration for songs in unusual places. One of his friends, a Ukrainian priest, told him about an amazing sermon from the fourth century, and Maher immediately resonated with its message.
“There was a priest named John Chrysostom,” Maher explains. “His nickname was ‘The Golden Tongue’ because he was such a great preacher. One year on Easter, he preached a homily with the message; ‘Christ is risen from the dead, trampling over death by death and redeeming us from the grave.’ ” Maher was so moved by both the original Chrysostom message and the passion of his Ukrainian friend as he told him about it, that he began to explore the concept within the context of a worship song for Easter.
“The whole song is about the cross - the death and the resurrection of Christ,” Maher adds. “Hell thought it had swallowed another victim; just another human being, but it swallowed God Incarnate. So God literally used death to destroy death and that’s something only God can do!”
The song ends by triumphantly proclaiming “He’s alive! He’s alive!” “It’s a refutation of modernism in a way,” Maher admits. “There’s this whole notion in these times that religion is obsolete or God is dead. He is not dead. He’s alive!”

I got to see Matt Maher perform at World Youth Day in Cracow 2016. I've been hooked to worship music eversince. It was such a powerfull moment to hear everyone sing along to worship music. I love it. Get goosebumps everytime and this brings me back to that week big time. It was the best experience I've ever had!
I haven't really listened to worship music in a while. This one though made me feel something I haven't felt in a long time.

oh, cool! I had no idea both of you had composed this song! I love it! I first heard it when it was youtubed, like 10 years ago or so? All I can say is that, every Holy Pascha / Holy Easter I listen to it, right after leaving the Pascha/Easter Mass. Why don't I listen to it in the Mass, cuz I live in Brazil and no one would understand if it was played during Easter Mass was happening. But, it is WONDERFUL to listen to it always, specially on THE SUNDAY MASS OF THE RESURECTION OF OUR LORD JESUS CHRIST! By the way Happy Paschal Tridum!
