I feel vindicated in my decision to focus on Fortitude as a Gangrel knowing that my character's middling resolve could be offset by higher wits, composure and defensive disciplines like "Unswayable Mind". And I appreciate you noting the conflict between "Cat's Grace" and "Fleetness", thank you.

I plan on building a Potence/Dominate ex-mobster, so this was helpful.

Enjoying this series if videos! Helpful to me for updating a couple key NPC in my world for v5. A Ravnos and a Setite 'power couple' in my world.

04:16 I homebrew the XP system to give enough to do meaningfull upgrades whenever I feel it is deep into the history. Otherwise it will take forever until players can have fun with cool Powers.

Yeah, I think a lot of ST hand out more than the book says.

Well when it comes to Vampire .. I Implemented a lot of rules to have bigger focus on story and feeling trapped in the story .. not due to char incompletion. Vampire has a great setting but some skills are more powerfull than others while they sound useful - such as Leadership ... After small fixes it works now.. :)

Btw: Iam happy that someone else said that Blood Sorcery is weak.. In my eyes.. its super expensive, super hard to learn. According to official rules, you need to spend a lot of exp to be at least partially good as you want to be. While all other people use that exp for anything else.. so you can ward againts spirits (great) but never use it wile others will become far more ahead.. Thats why homebrewed - separate exp. pool for rituals or just give random rituals to studying tremeres.. so they dont stand behind.. and can be witches..only on top levels they became powerful, but not in direct contact..

Yeah, I know there’s a fine line there because the versatility of Thaumaturgy let it kind of get out of hand in prior editions. But I think they overcorrected in V5 and the actual Discipline powers are too weak. I had a non-Tremere character finagle her way into being able to learn Blood Sorcery, and there was a real mechanical letdown for that story moment as I’m trying to figure out what of this stuff I would actually want. I think that if the core Discipline powers were more tolerable then the array of relatively weak ritual options would be more functional.

@@strangeassembly5595 its quite funny as I understand it .. even Tremere character on their live show has way of (telekinesis?) if I understand it.. here thauma is really weak :( All erratas are welcomed here xD

LA by Night does not follow RAW, if that’s what you mean.

I made a houserule, if you take a level on blood sorcery you can take a ritual too. You select a ritual that is equal or lesser leveled as your blood sorcery and learn it "for free" but need to pay the price of rituals in the book to learn more rituals. This way you can scale up to the rest of the group and justify you requiring some days off to learn the skill

Loving the videos have been watching the Mechanic's playlists back and forward. I was wondering what are the chance you could make one were you cover the 3 dots to 5 disciplines and give your opinion on the disciplines and if you think they are good or bad also can you cover the new clans and disciplines that are available atm like lasombra and Hecata or the ones on the companion book.

What would your comments be about Shapechange? I reckon it was a Protean 3 power now in V5, and I'm interested in any Storyteller view concerning that, for I really like that power.

IMHO, from a purely mechanical/utility point of view, I generally find it surpassed by Earth Meld. Rules-as-written, the wolf stat block has so few dice in Awareness that it can't be used for tracking, and because you can't become something small it isn't great for spying. Its best mechanical trick is to boost some physical skills, gaining a 6-die pool in combat, stealth, or running away for a character who has not invested in physical stats. One could try to take advantage of that by dumping physical stats with the intent of shapechanging whenever a fight came up (although that would mean your Feral Weapons are only of much value in animal form). Of course, that doesn't mean you can't just enjoy Shapechanging more than Earth Meld. It doesn't matter much how mechanically effective something is if it isn't fun or doesn't fit your concept.

@@strangeassembly5595 Yes, I totaly see what you mean by the game-term aspect of the discipline. I pity that they totally left out some beneficts for wolves from the previous editions (i. e. V20 mentioned difficulty reduction regarding scent and hearing, and they pointed out the faster running speed as far as I can recall). So unless my would-be Storyteller is a hobby zoologist and agrees to make adjustments, the current system really halters the benefits that one could have in wolf form :(

Are the lines numbered 1 - 5 for the Discipline powers, the level of the discipline power? For example if you have two level 1 disciplines in the same category go on the same line? Thank you!

    • @strangeassembly5595
      @strangeassembly5595  2 года назад +2

The line on the sheet is really the dot at which you took that power. I think the sheet kind of assumes that you will take the highest level power you can, but of course you don’t have to. So if I take Awe with the first dot of Presence and then Daunt with my second dot, I write Daunt on the second line. But ultimately you can write it how you like to make it easier to keep track of.

Alas, I’ve never done a comprehensive lookback on these intro videos to see how the errata effects them. This could probably also use an update/expansion with non-corebook material.

the preview thumbnail in the search results is a little bit misdirecting. I thought that this video is only about the celerity discipline and almost missed it entirely because i wanted a video on all disciplines.
