I appreciate the tip on Status - I had one point left that I initially took as "Thick Hide" from "Low Clan", but being "Known" by whichever sect my character would work within could be just as defensive in the long run.
Character creation in V5 seems to be a group effort, with no characters built in isolation. That tends to mean that, unless you have a table, practicing such is difficult or impossible without understanding the setting you're in. What I'd like to see is an actual character made such that it would help in this understanding.
RPG character creation should usually be a group effort (I love on-the-fly character creation for PbtA one-shots), although I've found that it isn't as much as I think it should be. You don't have to look any further than a VtM looking-for-group post, where folks often seem to come in with full character concepts, despite not knowing what game they're going to be playing in. Not that I'm innocent myself - I can think of one character concept that's been bouncing around in my head for over a year now, waiting for the right game.
@@strangeassembly5595 Maybe you can point some of us in the direction of a place where we might find "VTM looking for group" posts. My google-fu fails me in that regard constantly, and as I live in a rural area there's no real "community" nearby. Thanks! Been toying with several character concepts myself, but as you said it is a group effort, as opposed to an exercise one can do on their and refine as a way to learn how to build their characters better as can be done with other rpg systems. So would love the opportunity to group with others .... Again, thanks for sharing your wisdom, knowledge and passion for the game with us all here on YT.
I look at advantages as one of two categories. Mainly they should be used less for technical advantages and more for flavor. I see a lot of them as something to work towards in gameplay. Build and secure a haven. Make contacts (and enemies) as we play. The other category are those only available at character generation. I might allow the advantage to alter the protean shape change to be bought with XP but it seems to be one you are supposed to purchase at creation. Even though you aren't protean 3 yet. Neonates make plans and the Storyteller laughs....mwahahaha
Indeed, I did not try to include loresheets. As you indicate, there are a lot of them. I've thought about doing a 'top 10' or something else that focuses on my favorites, but they're so much about flavor that it feels very subjective.
@@strangeassembly5595 I feel you, just reading through them all takes hours. A "my 10 favourite loresheets" video sounds very cool though :) - even for a seasoned players its always interesting to see, how other people use their loresheets given how much room for interpretation some give you.
Sorry, this wasn’t trying to comprehensively cover the advantages/disadvantages - there are just so many of them! Personally I tend to like the blood-related flaws more, to twist up my character emotionally.
This just seems to justify not playing this edition compared to V20. I do like some of the mechanics from V5, like Hunger, but the rest of it just seems broken and worse than the previous editions. Odds are, I'd do a hybrid with V5 as the base and incorporate older systems into the new game, like Allies and Domain.
I think you should do an entire video on the Haven, Resources, and Herd Advantages

I hope you do this for VtM 20th Ed also!
Thanks for making it!!
Video is not 2 hours long, I guess loresheets aren't included in here :D

today good sir u have earned my sub good video
Awesome, thank you!
So just to make sure I'm understanding, you have 7 total dots that your players can fill with a combination of advantages and flaws?
7 dots of advantages and 2 dots of disadvantages/flaws
Nothing about blood? A bit dissapointing... I was looking for information on bond (unbondable etc), and haven't found anything here :/

@@strangeassembly5595 thanks for your reply. Overall your series is very informative and definitely helpful for new players!
