"My family's been trying to be black for 6 generations" lmaoo Valentines laugh at the end solidifies what we all been thinking. Glad to see Rob happy here🙏
I am thoroughly confused. I NEVER thought Robin Thicke had any business being even entertained to belong to the group of RnB / Quiet Storm greats I knew and loved since the 80's to this day. He's like cookie cutter mainstream modern pop soul, not anything to do with guys like Tank. I come from the era of singers like Freddie Jackson, James Ingram, Luther, Charlie Wilson, etc... And ya'll fawning over this dude? Ya'll gotta give me a F'n break😅
@@jazzupthattriad1257 What does giving Robin his props as an artist have to do with the talented artists you mentioned? This is not about comparing, or who's better, etc.; they're all talented in their own right. Robin is a singer, songwriter,, musician...he grew up loving and studying the great soul artists...his mother was a successful songwriting...that's why I say it's in his blood, as opposed to him just following whatever is trendy. Hos love for the genre is in his Soul. Do some research on his catalog, the songs he wrote for other artists, then you won't be throughly confused.
I also feel like there was an edit somewhere in there… It seems like they must’ve asked some other questions, but his answer was totally about something else so I wonder what was edited out? 46:17
The lesson here kids is learn to write songs. Most Artists who have 30+ careers have amazing talent but can also write amazing songs. The music industry has its ups and downs. When you are down, you can write for others. Then write that comeback song for yourself. Learning to Produce doesn’t hurt and absolutely learn the business side.
7:08 Cryyyyinnnngggg “We did it Joe” 😅 I love Robin. He is most definitely part of the cookout. Hell, him & his family might’ve even helped BBQ some of this soul food.. lol it’s in his blood!
Robin Thicke is a f@% BEAST! I remember when the Evolution of Robin Thicke came out! Cut for cut! I had to stop listening cause I got so wrapped up into this man. Straight IN LOVE! This episode brought it back full circle! Lord have mercy❤❤❤❤
I love when real artists work their vocals into Tank’s Top 5 theme song. Robin can harmonize with the best of ‘em’!! He’s such a pro and student of the game!
SZA is so dope I love it when seasoned or lyrical artists mention her. She is definitely iconic right now, and will be living legend status if she keeps going. She is so poetic.
So glad to hear Robin Thicke discuss his music career! He's definitely a student of R&B, you can hear it in the way he talks! The Evolution of Robin Thicke was a smash, love that album!!!
Two things I need to get off my chest as a fan of R&B music and certainly also of this podcast. Keep making beautiful music, and keep R&B great, keep the culture high. Robin Thicke is culture. When he said "And then I was married to Paula Patton and my whole life was embedded in the black experience and culture and that's where I belonged", my heart warmed. Just the fact that Robin Thicke feels so at home in our culture and we welcome him with open arms gives me hope for the future. A small beacon of light among all the ugliness of racism in the world.
A repetitive theme I see and love from R&B artists on the show is that they were influenced by the legendary Gospel group Commissioned. My dad would always say that R&B artists were influenced by fred and marvin sapp + the commissioned group + always I thought it was just an assumption but hearing various artists give them their flowers on the show makes me so happy. Genres are deepened when you can blend them together!
I'm a 90's baby and I have to say the "Blurred Lines" album is definitely a top fifteen to top ten R&B album for my generation growing up. That album came out during my college years 2011-2013 when the majority of R&B, Rap, and Pop artists were on fire with their albums and Robin Thicke was definitely in that camp. Zero skips.
If Maxwell was on baby you’d know!!! When that FINE FINE FINE MAN arrives and that other AMAZING MAN Joe come through you gonna know! The Millennials need 2 hours minimum from these men dear black Jesus residing of R&B Money booking 🙏🏾
I absolutely LOVE Robin Thicke! I have been a fan since I was a teen and he had the Jesus hair on the bike for "When I Get You Alone." My husband and I walked out to Magic after we got married. He's quite literally the soundtrack to my life.
The Evolution of Robin Thicke is a NO SKIP album…to this day

There have been two-hour episodes of people who have done way less quality work. We needed two mote hours of this!
Totally Agree! I think he had time constraints that day. I heard him say he had to go

This is definitely one of the more interesting episodes. Robin being a student of gospel and soul music makes so much sense.
