I recently tried to build a 'Super Bike" from a vintage steel frame. I got it down to exactly 7.6kgs. Awesome bike @klein-concept. I love your podcast very much! Very helpful walkthrough. Makes me wanna tune my bike as well. I want to go tubless. Any recommendations?
At least it trains your legs properly with that extra weight 🫣. Guess you could see it that way. But have a look at some second hand ultegra or maybe even dura ace. Another alternative would be the Easton EC90 crankset. 😍
About torqueing, I'm a drummer and tuning drums is part of the routine... same goes for my guitar playing pals... basically you end up learning how tight things should feel in your hands... So if you have limited acess to a torque wrench, just use it to tighten things and feel it. Grip it where you have the ratchet or wrench or whatever you're using and get a feel for the resistance. Once you get it pat down you won't get so scared about stripped treads or things getting loose on you!!
Really nice build! Using channel locks to crimp the cables relaxes me a bit that you dont need the highend tools to do something like that When building such a bike with light weight in mind is there a threshold for the weight of the naked frame? Or is it acheivable just by making your wallet light weight while looking for components?
Yes no need to crazy expensive tools. At least in my opinion. It is a good question regarding the frame. I think frame weight also plays into it but unfortunately i didnt weigh the pure frame itself 🫣. With second hand components it is also doable without making your wallet all too light. I think overall this bike was around 2k euros. Not a bargain but given the low weight I think it is somehow acceptable.
@@lukaass57 got to find the middleground. I sometimes think too little and then have to buy things twice because they are the wrong ones or i brake them during assembly 🫣
Awesome built but sorry to say but your brakepadmounts should be turned the other way around, the open side should be at the back, if you don't believe me look at the photo's from Canecreek. The Wheels turn with the clock if you go forward not against the clock like you are showing.

Coming from the motorbike world and new to cycling... is there a reason for your front brake being on the left lever? I thought for safety sake they would be the same as motorbike.
Welcome to the beautiful world of cycling Peter. 🤜🤛 That is a real good question. As far as i know the left break on bikes was always the front one (maybe the other way around in the UK 🫣). But will have a closer look into it.
28:19 that is the fork - so the wheel spins opposite of what you were showing and also, the brake cartridges face the wrong way... 28:46 your brake pads are the wrong way inside the (now correctly facing) cartridges - the curve of the pad should follow the curve of the rim they are going to touch while the brakes engage.
Man you are right. I fixed the one on the fork luckily before the testride 🫣. Didnt notice i swapped the pads on the rear. Thanks for pointing that out. Will fix it 🫶

Thank you Fern. I m not the biggest fan of blue so wanted to give another design a try. Still really glad to hear you like the overall build 🤜🤛
Great video!
A lighter wheelset and bum ,you have something that is 7.2-7.3kg.
Enjoyed the content, great result!
Thanks a lot 🤜🤛. Yes i wanted to buy the lightweight Drive wheels which are around 1300g i think but they are a bit too wide for the rear. Any recommendations?
@@klein-concept Cannot really recommend anything taking into account I'm also rocking the dt1800 :D
@@rand_kk I keep on searching then.
Nice video. 👏
Thank you. Yoeleo R12 build up next 🤌
Amazing job, great bike, great video! Subscribed!
Thanks so much Wolfgang. Means a lot to me 🤜🤛
Great job on this. Your build video has a very good flow👍🏾
Thanks a lot Luis. Appreciated. Big fan of your channel 🫶
@@klein-concept thank you! I appreciate that and look forward to seeing yours grow. You've got a sub👍🏾

Love those rim brakes byt not the price
🫣 i know.
Awesome bike @klein-concept. I love your podcast very much! Very helpful walkthrough. Makes me wanna tune my bike as well. I want to go tubless. Any recommendations?
Lets tune up your bike 🤜🤛. For tubeless i would recommend the GP5000 or P Zero TLR with some Silca sealant. Ping me if you need any support.
I also need a lightweight crankset. I'm on 105 right which is almost 800g
Thats great. A really good skill to have 🤜🤛
Lovely build. Plenty of life left in that frame.
Thanks a lot Simon. Very happy to hear you like it 🤜🤛
@@klein-concept Updating the paint was a great way to make it 100% fresh and new.
good to remember: 40nm = pretty tight ;)
Hahahahahaha. If you know 40nm = pretty tight and 4nm = not so tight, i think you are ready to start building without a torque wrench 😂😂😂
Brakes look fantastic. Nice colors. What are theses?
Glad you like them. These are Cane Creek ee brakes. 🫶
Really nice build! Using channel locks to crimp the cables relaxes me a bit that you dont need the highend tools to do something like that
When building such a bike with light weight in mind is there a threshold for the weight of the naked frame? Or is it acheivable just by making your wallet light weight while looking for components?
Yes no need to crazy expensive tools. At least in my opinion.
It is a good question regarding the frame. I think frame weight also plays into it but unfortunately i didnt weigh the pure frame itself 🫣. With second hand components it is also doable without making your wallet all too light. I think overall this bike was around 2k euros. Not a bargain but given the low weight I think it is somehow acceptable.
@@klein-concept thank you for your answer! That sounds like I'm thinking too much and building bikes too little! Keep up the good work!
Thanks. You are so right. Luckily i noticed it before the testride 🫣
I remember this frame from polish OLX. I was considering getting it but then caad 5 appears which I also didn’t buy 😢😂
Haha man, thats where i bought the frame. 😂😂😂 It is a lovely piece of steel.
have you had a good experience with the og-evkin handlebars? I've been looking to get some for myself but it's been a little hard to find info on them! If you could share your thoughts it would be greatly appreciated.
@@pedroamaral8100 i use them on 2 of my bikes and am very with them. Good price performance ratio and stable bars 🤜🤛
Where did you source the alternative design compress plug from?
I have an issues with a fork and stem combination that this would solve.
@@Gravel-Cult i dont remember but this one looks very similar. r2-bike.com/CARBON-TI-Expander-X-Plug-OS-1-1-4?iso=DE&gad_source=1&gclid=CjwKCAjw59q2BhBOEiwAKc0ijbblD4OKNhs1m6c04EvO9XzBWTCKFa3iIt5S6Y84MHJ5nN_aJ0dyeBoCY6UQAvD_BwE
Bars need to rotate forward and hoods need to be higher.
Thanks a lot mate. Will adjust this before the next ride 🤜🤛
@@klein-concept awesome! Love the delivery!
Coming from the motorbike world and new to cycling... is there a reason for your front brake being on the left lever? I thought for safety sake they would be the same as motorbike.
Welcome to the beautiful world of cycling Peter. 🤜🤛
That is a real good question.
Will fix it 🫶
@1:42 do this headsets have bearings already in?
Yes they do 🤜🤛
Respekt mega gut!
Danke dir Michael.
An welche Aliexpress Gruppe denkst du?
LG

Hi,
I did use the Shimano plastic bb adaptor and let me tell you it's b...t ! Dead after three operations.
I found a good steel tool (with three sizes) but can somebody explain why did Shimano change this stuff ?
Very nice bike, steel frames go through time and fashions.
Yes i used the shimano one. Mine is lasting already for 2 years with lots of BBs that i mounted with it. But i m interested in the one you mentioned. Could you drop a link?
Glad you like the bike 🤜🤛
@@klein-concept it's a Red Cycling Products tool and it fits for Hollowtech II, bbr60 and bb9000.
The adaptator really broke after several months of use (but I would have change anyway, plastic is not a reliable material for tools).
@@ericjournet-im3wk thanks a lot for the tip. Think will order that one.
nice
Thanks a lot. Glad you like it 🤜🤛
I am in a bit of a weird position right now. I made an impulse buy on a famous used bike marketplace. I bought someone else's "vintage steel frame superbike". It looks just like your bike. It's metallic blue with fancy parts. The peddles are so tiny. The seller is German. This bike was cheaper than a brand new entry level road bike, believe it or not. Should I be worried LOL? Is it easy to fit a bike rack?
Sorry i dont understand? Did you receive the bike?
@@klein-concept Not yet. I'll keep you posted
I switched to anti-seize instead of grease.
What made you switch and how are your experiences so far?
beautiful build! how do you like the handlebars and what's the weight?
Thanks a lot 🤜🤛. I like the handlebars. I used the OG Evkin bars on some other bikes as well so a big fan. Which weight do you mean? The full bike or just the handlebars? 🤔

UNO -17 !
Great stem 🤩
Why did you grease the crown race? It should fit directly on the sealed bearings, not moving. Right?
Yes it does but i try to keep water as far away from any bearings as possible. Maybe not needed but I guess doesn t hurt either 🫣
Nice bike ! What carbon fork you are using in this bike?
Thank you. It is a EC90 Superlite.
omg.. its lower than carbon bike average weight.. sir you are great
Thanks a lot. Glad you like it. And love the way steel rides at that weight

😘
Nice work, it turned out awesome! 🤟 Out of curiosity, did u measured the frame before building?
Thanks a lot Richárd. Glad you like it. I actually only measured it roughly with the measurements which have been provided online. So i was prepared to either ride it with a slightly longer stem or to actually sell it off to somebody who is slightly smaller than myself and finance another upcycling project this way.
@@klein-concept cool! Thats usually my final push before deciding to buy a new bike or part, I always could sell it, which i never do :D My other question is that have you weigh the frame before building it? It really seems like a pretty nice ride!
@@kelemenrichard hehe i know and i might keep this one as well as it rides amazingly with a 110mm stem. Need to see what my gf thinks about that idea 🫣.
Unfortunately i didnt weigh it before but i knew it was made out of Columbus Spirit tubes so that told me that it js pretty light and also the fork is fully carbon.
Nice Vid! I doubt the front brake pads are installed in the correct position.
Hehe you spotted it. Yes you are right. Luckily I also noticed that before the testride 😂😂😂
