I like Urborg for casting Necropotence and Doomsday in decks that aren’t heavy on black mana. It’s also helpful to be able to tap your fetches through an opposition agent, which is all over my local meta.
Yavimaya turns on Submerge, and I do like the color fixing for my Temur deck, because all the dorks require green, so it's nice to have those all turned on in the early game.
I understand, that lands that enter the battlefield tapped are not liked much, but in case where you were talking about lands searched with Crop Rotation... Bojuka Bog?
I consider a utility land to be a land that does something other than just tapping for mana. Very interesting seeing you guys bring up stuff like Gaea's Cradle, Ancient Tomb
6:09 that ability exists on multiple creatures, Krosan Wayfarer sacrifices himself to do it, and skyshroud ranger taps to put a land from hand into play. There's others, too, but in Green Black Naus piles, Necropotence for as much as you can, with a Krosan Wayferer out, then sacrifice him for E-Zone to cast your necro pile at instant speed is a real option!
I just watched a guy last night crop rot into a forbidden orchard to sneak his defense of the heart trigger in and it the most epic play I've ever seen
discussing inventors' fair feels like formating for activation cost can be improved: like there is a lot of things nowadays that is sorcery speed or once per turn. Might be after tap symbol there can be smth like , :
Urza’s Saga dominates Modern and Legacy and every time I play it in cEDH I’m so happy. My opinion (and this might be a cold take) is that it’s on the same level of Otawara.
I really love the list, but to me the channel lands are in a weird spot. I've always viewed them more as mdfc than util lands. To me utility lands are ones that act as a land but can be activated to do something extra. Boseju for example doesn't do that extra if put in as a land. It's more akin to casting a spell that can be a land much like mdfcs. Anyways great content as always!
The funniest part is that layers have nothing to do at all with this :P (The reason why Urza's Saga is sacrificed when Blood Moon enters the battlefield is because it doesn't lose its Saga subtype (as only land types are removed), but it loses all chapter abilities, making it a saga with a final chapter number of 0 - and it will obviously have at least 0 lore counters on it.)
i'm really surprised you guys didn't talk more about Mycosynth Gardens - the card is actually reeeally good. i would argue that if you are in 1-2(sometimes 3) colors & you're playing with a Lion's Eye Diamond, it's an instant include. it is absurdly good in low color combo lists with LED, since it functions as a second copy that you can sacrifice immediately, due to LED not needing to tap. ALSO, these decks tend to turn more utility lands than most, Inventors Fair, Urza's Saga, Emergence Zone, etc., so the filter ability turns on more than in other decks. decks like Teshar want Mycosynth Gardens & IMHO it's a high priority utility land that i would never cut if i'm running LED & low colors. genuinely one of the better artifact/combo deck utility lands. i also tend to play LED in most reanimator decks too, & it always finds a home there. just a great card & a good land.
Blast Zone would be insane if it didn't enter with a charge counter. But it would have to enter tapped for balance imo, even then it would still see play.
I think "boseiju, who shelters all" can also be very good, crop rotation for that land and than uncounterable ad nauseam in decks like Kraum/Ikra is very powerfull.
Absolutely love those deck boxes. Been looking for a video where you said what you guys use to display your commanders in the box. Question - can they fit 100 double sleeved cards? My decks are FAT, lol. Thank you and love your content!!
PTW: Uncounterable is good. Cavern is not like insane tho because a lot of the format defining counterspells don't hit creatures. Me: Excellent point, can't wait for them to talk about Boseiju. The original one. PTW: ...
Urza’s Saga grabs Mox Opal in my casual Daretti build more than it gets anything else. With only 28 lands and 24 red sources, my ass needs red. Sol Ring? Sick dude but Kiki says 3 Red
One honorable mention that may not qualify or just eek out of the chosen lands would be the filter lands, especially in 2 and 3 colour decks they can be great. You can (for example) use Sunken Ruins to turn a black into double blue for a counterspell. They come in untapped, add colourless or any combination of two if you have one starting colour.
Hey. Krosan Wayfarer lets you put lands into play at instant speed. You cast it for a single green and can sacrifice it for free, meaning E. Zone can be just the 1 mana to win on top of the stack. Additionally, as its just a green pip, its playable in a wider variety of decks than Growth Spiral.
Cephalid coloseum i'm calling for top spot. I like command beacon in tergrid high power cause she's a removal magnet, don't think it's cedh outside of really niche mono colour commander. Edit: having listened to the list i'd have put it above eiganjo but yeah, those top 5 are very solid.
As someone who listens on Spotify, the whole “we know the name of the card but we aren’t going to say it but it will be on the screen” schtick is genius marketing. Not only did you get a Spotify listen, you got a RUclips comment, view and a like. Bravo
i never realized how insane Cradle was until I played it myself in a deck. you dont have to play or build around it at all, its just always incidentally broken lmao
Nobody talks about Savage Summoning in green as a flash speed card. "Savage Summoning can't be countered. The next creature card you cast this turn can be cast as though it had flash. That spell can't be countered. That creature enters the battlefield with an additional +1/+1 counter on it" and it's only 1 green mana
Also worth pointing out the colorless lands - City of Traitors - Crystal Vein - Mishra Workshop I think these are very situational. In the decks they are good in, they are very good, but most decks don’t want these. Also side note: I think it’s a shame that Tolarian Academy is banned. I know it probably makes sense, it just sucks that rest of the Urza cycle can be played and not Tolarian Academy.
Idk if its layers, but blood moon does not change the fact that urzas saga is a saga. So the game sees a saga with lore counters equal or greater than chapters and then gets sacrificed. From what i understand. Whether thats layers or game state idk.
It's just a state-based action; the layer system doesn't change anything here because there's only one continuous effect (Blood Moon's) that is relevant.
Worth mentioning the tri-cycling lands from Ikoria and Street of Capenna, like Indatha’s Triome or Jetmir’s Garden, that tap for one of 3 colors and cycle for 3. I don’t think they are great, but they are also fetchable 3 color lands for 3 color decks that you can do on your end step. Also, it would have been nice they call them by their shard names (Grixis, Bant, etc), but what is magic if not adding more complexity just because 🤦🏻♂️
They avoid using plane-specific names outside of those planes, for flavour/worldbuilding reasons. That's also why the shock lands aren't named after the guilds.
I’m only at Gaea’s Cradle, but if we’re talking about Ancient Tomb, shouldn’t we also talk about the budget Ancent Tomb, Crystal Vein? If you have any big commander with a lot of colorless mana required (See K’rrik, Jeggy, Dargo, Tivit) wouldn’t you want all the 2 mana lands that can tap for 2 the turn they come down? I’m okay with being wrong. But I’ll take an optional painless ancient tomb ALMOST any turn I can get it.
About Cephalid Coloseum. I still thing is nieche card but it works really well with Notion thief, Narset or Orcish bowmasters( and this one is really funny because you may ping 3 times so you may kill An Nauseam player for example).
Pog! But also does anyone else get a high-pitched buzzing when Dylan is talking? This is the 2nd video where I've noticed it. I've heard it once when I was in my car and the other time with headphones. It's like the mosquito noise thing
So it's pretty much whenever Dylan talks it happens but maybe it's my old man ears because I asked my friend and they don't hear anything. I went back and listened to older ones and it did happen but it's only when it's your doing like the podcast format and it's only the mic Dylan uses. Idk seems weird AF. I don't have this happen with other people but I also might be the only one with the issue? Won't stop me from watching tho
I just realized Urza's Saga gets Esper Sentinel....thanks Play to Win. Also, love the fact that y'all leave in the mistakes, it presents a human side that is hilarious, none of us are perfect and it makes you so much more watchable.
urzas saga does not get esper sentinel. the third ability reads "search your library for an artifact card with mana cost {0} or {1}, put it onto the battlefield then shuffle." note that it says mana cost and not mana value. it has to get something like jewelled lotus or sol ring because it only fetches artifacta with generic mana costs
I've been watching you guys since you first released and look forward to your next Halloween cEDH! (hopefully no banlist again). How do we apply to play with you guys?
Unpopular oppinion: Otawara is WAY better than boseiju. Reason: you not just interact via Grand Abolisher or Teferi, Time Raveler, you legitimately can remove the Teferi or Grand abolisher and let others stop the combo if all you have for interaction is the channel land. And in cEDH bounce is uasually as powerful as destroy, since the tempo loss or at the right time bouce results in the same as removal, and also most of the cEDH decks play with graveyard and removal is not the end of the world. Otawara doesnt ramp them at all, which in cEDH comes rarely to be relevant, since there is way less basica played if any sometimes, but still comes up. Otawara ftw, gimme
A land that makes all lands tap for colorless could be useful in some casual decks (think Eldrazi-heavy decks), but I cannot imagine why anyone would put it in a CEDH deck.
I kind of feel that 3 of the 5 Channel lands are being way overrated. Are there any decks that are using them frequently that I can check out? I use Command Beacon in a niche combo deck, so I don't expect it to be super high, but the utility is just so insane when you never have a command tax and your commander is a central combo piece in the deck that is a high priority removal target. Also, City of Traitors and Tabernacle at Pendrel Vale my dudes XD it's not perfect, but it has some nice upside if you want the extra life in a Naus list. And Tabernacle is a 1 land hose for all creature based lists (and fun fact, Gaea's Cradle breaks parody on it).
Borne upon the Wind being considered too much, and now seeing real play just shows that even cedh players can't accurately judge a card until it's properly explored. It's hard to tell sometimes.
The visual representation of the list at the bottom of the screen is a great addition to these videos, it really makes a difference
Me yelling Ashaya at my phone
Same.....same...same
I relate😂😂
I watch a lot of videos to fall asleep, and my girlfriend sure was confused why I said "Ashaya" multiple times in my sleep.
Me too have an ashaya deck too
Came here to say this!
I like Urborg for casting Necropotence and Doomsday in decks that aren’t heavy on black mana. It’s also helpful to be able to tap your fetches through an opposition agent, which is all over my local meta.
i use urborg in krrik for lake of the dead ;)
While not technically lands, the MDFCs should be on this list. At least some of them, namely the mythics and Valakut Awakening.
Malakar rebirth is also really great for extra commander protection
@@jacklamond3679 In certain decks that could be really good.
Yavimaya turns on Submerge, and I do like the color fixing for my Temur deck, because all the dorks require green, so it's nice to have those all turned on in the early game.

please do a best artifacts list (mana rocks, utility etc.) and stax and creatures lists. would love to know both of your top 10's
I'm pretty sure they have a top ten creatures list
6:09 that ability exists on multiple creatures, Krosan Wayfarer sacrifices himself to do it, and skyshroud ranger taps to put a land from hand into play. Forbidden Orchard is excellent in specifically Toxril lol
I think tabernacle was forgotten, but maybe it’s not played enough anymore.
I just watched a guy last night crop rot into a forbidden orchard to sneak his defense of the heart trigger in and it the most epic play I've ever seen
At the beginning and I LOVE these new original things like this!! It helps me so much 🔥🔥🔥
It might be interesting to know the opposite topic, why some casual staples aren't played in cedh (reliquary tower)
Doesn't make colors, the effect doesn't do anything for you.
discussing inventors' fair feels like formating for activation cost can be improved: like there is a lot of things nowadays that is sorcery speed or once per turn. Might be after tap symbol there can be smth like , :
I think the depletion lands are underrated in mono colored decks (except green)

I really thought that Dylan was trying to troll Cam with the Niv thing.
my pod used to be mega swamp loving urborg players so brought in Karma in my Yisharn deck, Urborg hasnt made an appearance since.

Taps for only colorless mana. Ouch 2

I was surprised to see Boseiju and Otawara above Cradle, but your explanation makes perfect sense
Is it Eiganjo or Eijango? The second one reminds me of a Quentin Tarantino movie.
Cephalid coloseum i'm calling for top spot.

You gys are amazing as ever. Fantastic information with a big pinch of humor!
You forgot Mt. DOOM.
It is great
Now I want an MF DOOM Mt. Doom alter.
Also Urborg being a part of the Kormus Bell prison archetype
Tabernacle literally existing in many non-creature stax decks.
The only cool thing about Yavimaya is it makes Acid Rain into mass land destruction in mono blue :D completely irrelevant for cEDH but neat.
i never realized how insane Cradle was until I played it myself in a deck. you dont have to play or build around it at all, its just always incidentally broken lmao

Keywords only exist on the realm they were created on. It's why Emry has affinity but not the keyword.
Just started the video and my guess is it has to be the new Boseju. It's too good.
The artifact lands are great for artifact decks in general. If you use krark clan for example.
No original Boseiju Who Shelters All? Uncounterable on a land is pretty decent
