- Louis CK Performing for the troops. I hope he doesn't have a problem with me posting this. I didn't even know who he was before this set. He's one of my top 3 favorite now. I just wanted other people to see him like I did. I wish I could have a conversation with him!

You know what's great ? He doesn't suck up to the audience. A lot of comedians when they're performing for the troops, go on stage and start right away with shit like 'you guys are my heroes, big round of applause for everybody'. He just gets on stage and does his jokes. It's the most respectful way to do it
He did it at the end.
Lukas Nilsson Yeah but he does it as a form of respect. A lot of comedians try to milk sympathy and respect from the soldiers before their set even begins. He doesn(t do it in a self-serving way

Even louis ck has to exercise at least a little bit of caution. Even if he turned the joke on himself, it would still appear disrespectful.
He might have written that bit after doing these gigs in the Middle East. The ideas do not come up from nowhere, you know.

This is my favourite louis set. You can tell they told him to keep it relatively clean but he didn't give a shit and gave the soldiers the good laugh they deserved and needed.

He used the same material in his live standup dvd. This means that he reserved only his best material for a set like this. That's respectable as hell.

I was really impressed with how he changed the pony biting bit to his daughter being at a party rather than his trip to Italy with his kids. Kudos for good taste, Louis.

That's a really dumb thing to say and a massive PR disaster waiting to happen. It's going to alienate everyone there and turn the entire base against him, no doubt about it. Even if he did joke about it, he wouldn't write it the way you did.

Sure, for his stand up special in the safety of civilian life and to a more diverse audience. He wouldn't write his joke the exact same way in this context for obvious reasons, which was my point.

It actually wasn't this set, because in that interview he said he didn't have a mic. He said he went on because the generator went out and whatever musicians were there couldn't perform without electricity. Knowing him, he's probably done several shows for the troops.

He has such a way with words, whether it's writing comedy or even that sincere and genuine compliment he gave to all the soldiers at the end.

Although Louis included visiting troops on his show, I think his experience touched him and I trust his integrity. He had no entourage or personal camera crew to publicize this performance. I REALLY love this guy - hilarious, honest and hilarious again!

Every once and a while, I'll come back and watch this...I've been a Louis CK fan for a long time and this is without a doubt, one of his best stand up acts. You guys were really lucky to have Louis come out.

I'm a comic, and I've had a few friends who were lucky enough to perform for the troops in Iraq and Afghanistan. Each and everyone says what a great experience it was and they loved it. They say how well mannered and the cool the troops were. I hope some day I get to do something like that.

Haha have the higher-ups in charge of USO never heard of Louis CK before they hired him? Were they not aware that his material could be considered offensive? Still, I'm pleasantly surprised military brass allowed Louis CK to perform his entire material since they're always stressing about EO complaints. I'm glad the troops that were there were able to see Louis do his thing and not a neutered "safe" version and from the looks of it they seemed to be enjoying his material thoroughly.

It's interesting how the people who see this kind of video - I mean the slightly obscure, harder to find ones - are the ones who know the topic best. Like in this case there's a few comments from people who noticed the Pig Newton reference, or how Louis changed his "abortion on Xmas eve" joke, or know single interviews the guy has done. There's probably a chance to start a discussion on his work, or on how this show feels "different" from his specials or bootlegs (notice how in a couple of spots he feels so ill at ease he actually has to apologize to the audience? Or how the audience itself seems afraid of enjoying itself, like the guy who keeps going "oh my god, oh my god"?). This being said, thanks to the uploader for showing us a different facet of this man. Oh, and please everybody, cut out the hate comments, it makes it hard to find the good ones.
It is interesting how he ties all of his segments together from different routines in a different order. His segues are perfect.

I think most - if not all - of these jokes are from his Chewed Up set, but still so good, so on-point. Louis CK = GREATEST COMEDIAN ALIVE!

My first Louis CK 'experience' was Pootie Tang back in around 2002, but I didn't know at the time it was his creation. I think it was about 2007 I first became aware of him as a stand up. Watching him here (again) I love that everyone is coalescing around his routine. It's a nice feeling, I'm sure, to play for people who are spending most of their time doing things that we're totally lucky not to have to do.
Compared to his actual staged performances, you can see how nervous he is. He's rushing through his sets so fast. It's just interesting. I've never seen him speed up THAT much
He was clearly nervous, but he may have been hauling ass through his jokes because he was allotted a short amount of time, and wanted to cram in some of his best material because he figured they'd love it. And they did.

He was nervous. He thought he was gonna get shot.
Open venues have less reverberating laughter. So the laughter dies down sooner each time, and you got to keep up the pace.

Louis' humor is perfect for servicemen and women. Everyone I knew had a similar dark, edgy, very blue sense of humor, but of course he's way funnier than we were. I became a fan of his towards the end of my stint in the Marines (in '97).

Louis is actually known for coming up with a completely new set every year, but if you've seen his specials, then yes, this is probably all recycled stuff. You realize that, unless they are doing crowd work, all their material is written long ahead of time and they perform using that material hundreds of times... Loved his performance

Thanks for posting this man...Louis CK is awesome, i get his emails from his website when he sends them out and I try to see him live recently in either Chicago or St. Louis, even tried to get tickets like 4 months before hand....all sold out. Fuck man, I really want to see him live.
He is one of the few comedians that does an entire different act every single year. He never recycles "jokes" from one year to the other, just like Chris Rock.
