Mate, I think you're missing the point of Karaoke in Philippines. Yes we have talented vocalists. But it was never about the voice. Music is how we bond. It's a way for us to spend time with our and friends and family while we forget our responsibilities and problems. So if you ever end up in a Filipino karaoke bar, please don't shy away. Another possible reason why Filipinos, most of us, can sing. We wake up very early before dawn to go to school. At 5AM or 6AM, we had to sing the National Anthem and other patriotic songs. Our music teachers would criticize us, too. We were taught on how to hit those Do-Re-Mi notes properly and even hit us in our abdomens to check if we're properly using the breathing technique (at least in my experience back in elementary 1990s) also, karaoke is a normal thing in the Filipino households. Some even learned the standard 1950s and 1960s songs of Matt Monro and Tom Jones.
