He did audition for killswitch engage when Jesse left back in 2003 and would eventually sing for them in like 2010 so phillswitch engage was a thing for a brief period

In case no one knows, Phil was 2nd runner up to replace Jesse back in 2001 or 2002 for killswitch engage but of course Howard got the job. Phil is such an underrated vocalist.
Phil did a colab in a song with Jesse and after Howard's left, he did a tour live with KSE called "phillswitch engage". I think Phil has good friends in KSE

Honestly, Howard is one of my favorite vocalists ever, whilst simultaneously pretty much hating Howard-era Killswitch... The songs, for the most part, were very much lacking when compared to Alive or Just Breathing. Especially the further you get away from The End of Heartache, the last album with howie was a steaming pile..
Except! One exception. Rose of Sharyn, which is one of my all time favorite songs, not just KsE songs, all time. Now I'm not saying that ALL Howard KsE songs were bad except Rose. The End of Heartache, Arms of Sorrow, My Curse, Reject Yourself... All excellent songs. The thing was, they were either ON IT, or completely swinging and missing. Listening to TEoH front to back is a snooze-fest, sometimes I can't tell when the song has changed if I stop paying attention for a minute. I just start thinking holy crap when will this song end, it's so terrible! But then Rose of Sharyn comes on and I'm moved to tears and cannot possibly pay attention to anything BUT THAT SONG. What I'm saying is, although their high points are perhaps higher than AoJB, no Howard album has anywhere near the consistency of greatness that AoJB has. The whole album front to back is a masterpiece...
Jesus that was long winded, I've never put that into words before because most people just get butt hurt right out of the gate since I'm like the only Jesse > Howard KsE fan in existence it feels like. What I originally came here to say was, I almost wouldn't have minded Labonte becoming the lead singer instead of Howard, can't help but wonder how things would have been different... But then we wouldn't have gotten "The Fall of Ideals." And my life couldn't go on without that album! Lol.

If there was ever anyone to carry on with the future of Killswitch Engage besides Howard or Jesse, it’s Phil fucking Labonte, this video is just everything I’ve ever wanted to ever see, the kickass vocalist of one of my all-time favorite bands doing a cover of one of my all-time favorite songs from one of my other all-time favorite bands ❤️
Dude Phil you're not only a true American hero but you're also one of the most unbelievably amazing vocalists in heavy metal at all! You're voice and music really needs to be heard throughout this world for the sake of people if not just this country!!!
