I might recommend that since you mainly want the DE2 on there so you can control it with the remote, you don't strictly need the DE2 at the head end, just as long as it's connected to your other engines in someway and you know what orientation it's in. That way, when you're driving from the cab, if you've got the DE6 on the front you have access to the dynamic brake. But yeah like you said it's easy to blow a traction motor on the DE2 if you're driving from the DE6 and you're not paying attention to the heat warning light.
In my case, I'd put a DH4 and I'd connect the MU for navigating then connect for shunting. Regardless, your train was very light. It just didn't struggle at all
poor man's remote: open the air brake valve on the back of the train to immediately apply full train brake. fun to do while crouching on the back buffer :D
Nice video. One of the things I love about this game is that you can make it as easy or as difficult as you want. If you want a chill trip taking only one or two orders at a time, you can do that. If you want a lot of work taking five or six orders at a time, you can do that, too. Letting you choose how you want to play is excellent game design and it's why this is my favourite train game. Subbed and looking forward to your future videos.
It was a pleasure watching you play - very relaxed (most of the time ;) - thought you were done for on that one curve). You got my sub - looking forward to more from you!
When you are going through the FRS (forestry) town/industry area, I believe the areas void of trees/scenery are supposed to depict the cutting down of trees for the forestry industry perhaps?
@@schnauzahpowahz Ah, ok. Maybe someone was tasked to remove some trees for the effect of clearing land and went a little overboard? I posted my comment about 2 minutes before you got to that part where part of the terrain/hillside is missing and looks all jagged, so something is amiss...
To make a chance at the bonus, only grab the contract and look up the consist in the yard. They have the contract letters/numbers already on them, organise them heavy in the front, light in the back (or you might encounter a derailment). Shunt them into place and only bring in the DE6 when ready, just to save on running cost, and only then, put the contracts in the machine to fetch the booklets. Thanks for the DE2-tip, i did miss my remote (and de2) that first DE6 drive i did yesterday, but i used shunters at the drop offs to get the load in the correct places. In the end i made 162K (incl bonusses) with a 25K fee in service and i didn't have to rush things.. HB to MF with a stop at OWC, 4 contracts(of which 1xhazmat1), 2 full 2 empty, 34 cars, 2 stops, approx 980 tonnes, one DE6. I tend to stay under 1000t, when the DE6(itself 115t) says 1400t, hahaha.. It's an awsome game and that consist of yours, just wow. I'm working my way upto that, lol. Also, you can now lock in the things you use the most. Saw you zapping alot to get the remote out. 1-6 i got locked in with map, stations, remote, etc, contract start with me at 7 to 0 on the number keys atop of the keyboard. Hit yer capslock to start organising. Love the vid, btw ;)
I've been playing for about a week with 24 jobs and 244 cars and 10 DE6's. 10 are needed to make some of the inclines. It's slow going with top speed about 35 KPH.
When you remarked on the wiper squeak that was a little spooky, it made me think that they could throw in the occasional scary cryptid in there at night during storms!
You can also use one of the new engines with the remote and it's larger than the DE2, not sure what the model number is but it's the brown engine withe the cab in the center, has the hook-up for multiple engines and will connect to the remote. I've used it with one DE6 and hauled 5 jobs at once. I've also used it to shunt when there is no DE2 in a station.
I wonder if you could just cut out the traction motors on the DE2 and just use it like the old “robot” cars to enable remote control of the road diesels without worrying about overloading those teeny traction motors? I’ve been messing around with steam this update so I haven’t had a chance to try the new diesels yet. Love the feeling of working a big heavy train through the slow mountain territory down south. Shame there’s no real incentive to visit the lumber area, it’s got some good scenery. All in all, a fun little video!
Hmm, leave the motors cut out - theres an idea. I didnt have many issues w this particular train but using heavier loads w it and other engines it always explodes lol
@@schnauzahpowahzI don’t think you can just cut the motors out, but what I do know for certain is you can simply start the DE2 up, pair the remote to it, and then press the fuel cutoff to kill the engine. Once you’ve done that, any locomotives MUed with the DE2 will still respond to throttle and brake inputs, but you will have eliminated overheating issues. You also need to get yourself the caboose.
I got to hand it to you. Your videos have got me hooked on another train sim. I wasn’t sure how I’d feel about this. I’m all about North American freight railroading with my grandfather having worked for Norfolk & Western and retiring as a Captain from the railroad when Norfolk Southern retired the tugboat service on the Detroit River. Nothing beats the shear size, power and sound of North American freight in my eyes, so I came into this game not expecting to not really care for these smaller European style locomotives and freight consists and refund the game on Steam within the 2 hour limit. But damn was I wrong about this. Run 8 and Train Sim Classic are my go-to for train simming, but DV has a spot there with them now. While not quite full blown simulator, the gamey aspects of this game keep it fun and enjoyable. Not perfect by any means, but really no game is and that’s okay. I found my self the first day blowing way past that two hour limit I thought I would refund this game by because it kept me engaged. There’s so much to do to keep you busy and it’s not as much a scenery simulator that a hardcore train sim would be on long hauls just watching the scenery pass by. The career aspect, available jobs at the stations, maintenance, and shops keep me coming back for more. Definitely can’t wait to see what Altfuture has in store for this game’s future.
I’ve played all the sims you’ve mentioned, and they all have their perks. But this is the one that makes me feel most like Ikm actually “there”. Having to physically mess with air hoses and handbrakes is great. Watching the hoses pull apart and dump after you make a cut is really satisfying as well. Makes me feel like I’m back in a real yard! The devs are great as well, they’ve really delivered with this update. It’s been worth the wait!
If the entire load weighs only 600t combined 1 DE6 would have been more then enough And may i ask if there is a reason for putting the first de6 in reverse?
I was playing the other day and I thought I remembered the DE2 having a switch for the engine fan before the simulator update? Maybe I'm confusing it with a different locomotive, I dunno
It still has a switch for the fan, but it's for the cab fan rather than the engine. Before the Simulator update, the switch was there but had no actual effect whatsoever.
Whenever I’m running a huge train, or just a normal sized train, I ALWAYS USE at LEAST, 6 Locomotives at the front, 6 in the middle, And 6 At the back. JUST TO MAKE SURE THAT I WILL GET UP ANY TYPE OF HILL AND I CAN EASILY GET UP TO SPEEED WITHIN MINUTES
possible spoilers from the fan wiki… gonna try and hide it under "read more". lorem ipsum lorem ipsum lorem ipsum ok there's a Caboose wagon you can find, it only exists in one place in the map, you can find the key in one of the shops. it boosts the Remote range to 2km as well as giving a place to recharge it I've not tried it, I've just read the fan wiki edit: oh, you've got it lol
I recently hauled approximately 2100 tonnes from Steel Mill to Harbor and Town (3 x jobs) with 2 x DE6 running tail to tail. I used half a tank of sand to get over the hill. Made it though! Probably 2 notches on the throttle and sitting just outside of red on the temp gauge. Literally the last segment of yellow. Its was such a big balancing act and so rewarding when I accomplished it.
I thought this game was supposed to have realistic physics. I noticed at time 1:33:35, you jumped out of the train, pull out the controller and the train was going 41 and in about the length of just a football field, you slowed the train to 25. That's not realistic.

pro handbrake tip: handbrake OFF has the handle/red mark to the left of the 6 o'clock position, handbrake ON has it just to the right
Yes! And it winds like a kitchen tap. Always anti clockwise to open. It should feel natural after a while.
